All Macs & iOS Devices Have Been Affected By Chip Security Flaws – Apple Warns

US tech giant Apple Inc warned that all Mac and iOS devices have been affected by security vulnerabilities in Central Processing Units.

In recent days, cybersecurity experts have released information about design flaws in microchips produced or designed by such companies as Intel, AMD and Arm Holdings, which control almost all the chip market.

According to a statement by the company, the vulnerabilities dubbed Meltdown and Spectre could allow hackers to get access to sensitive information on the users’ computers and other devices.

“Security researchers have recently uncovered security issues known by two names, Meltdown and Spectre.

“These issues apply to all modern processors and affect nearly all computing devices and operating systems.

“All Mac systems and iOS devices are affected, but there are no known exploits impacting customers at this time. Apple Watch is not affected by Meltdown,” the company said.

The IT giant recommends all the users to download software only from trusted sources, adding that the company has already released patches aimed at protection from Meltdown and Spectre and will continue its efforts in the sphere.

According to media reports and statements issued by cybersecurity experts, the hardware bugs could allow malicious software installed on the devices to get access to the information without responding to the operating systems that should prevent such software from doing this.

Almost all the devices with chips produced in the two recent decades are believed to be affected by Meltdown and Spectre.

A British company has released the first pictures of a ‘smart condom’ which collects very intimate data about the sex life of anyone brave enough to wear it.

The device is called the i.Con and can detect sexually transmitted infections as well as sending data about a sex session straight to the wearer’s smartphone.

British Condoms said its ‘revolutionary wearable tech for the bedroom’ measures the number of calories burned during intercourse, the speed of a man’s thrusts, how long he lasts and even what positions are used.

The condom firm said its invention would help men see how they ‘stack up to other people from around the world.’

Adam Leverson, lead engineer for the i.Con Smart Condom, said: “It’s here and it’s beautiful. We wanted the i.Con to look refined, non-intrusive and lightweight – the finished article is nothing short of any of those things.

“There’s a lot of tech packed into the i.Con and for us to be able to deliver it in such a way that there is absolutely no hindrance to the user was our main goal – and I think we have gone above and beyond with the i.Con to make sure of this.

“I’m just so happy that we can now share the i.Con with the world!” The smart condom is a small band which fits around the bottom of a man’s joystick, which means wearers will still need to strap on a normal condom to get full protection.

It is waterproof and features a band that’s “extraordinarily flexible to ensure maximum comfort for all sizes.” Bizarrely, it even lights up to provide illumination for both partners’ private parts.

John Simmons, a spokesperson for British Condoms, added: “We’re extremely excited to share with the world the first glimpse of the i.Con Smart Condom Ring due to go on sale in the UK in January 2018.

“It’s truly the next step in wearable tech and we believe we have pioneered a product that will not only bring an extra element of fun into the bedroom, but will also help indicate potential STI’s present as well as prevent condom slippage, a leading cause of unplanned pregnancy in the UK.”

The condom company claimed 900,000 people have already written to express interest in the gadget.

Telecoms Operators Set For Tariff Hike in the New Year

Telecommunication subscribers in the country may be in for a rough year as the network operators are said to be considering another increase of their tariffs soon in order to sustain services amidst a tough operating environment.

Sources within the industry told Leadershio Weekend that the major reason for the planned hike, according to the telecommunication operators, was the increasing multiple taxation by governments at different levels.


It would be recalled that the proposed new data tariff floor, approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), was suspended last December, after a public outcry and intervention by the Senate.

In its reaction, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has expressed its dissatisfaction with the new development. It made its position known in a statement by its chairman, Mr. Gbenga Adebayor.

This year, Nigerian telecom consumers may witness increase in their voice, data and broadband services from the mobile network operators.

Already, the planned introduction of a nine per cent Communications Service Tax (CST) by the federal government through the National Assembly to shore up 2017 budget revenues may be another trigger that would lead to the hike.

Engr. Adebayo said, “The tax bill, if enacted, will bring hardship to telecom subscribers. ALTON and some stakeholders, like the GSMA, Consumer Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria (CAFN) and NATCOMS have jointly spoken out that the bill is unacceptable to us.”

Meanwhile, the president, Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Engr. Olusola Teniola, noted that telecom companies do not object to tax reforms nor regard taxes as a burden. “The truth is that there is severe over-taxation in our industry. It explains the slow penetration of services into unserved areas of the country.

“Contrary to popular belief, telecom operators and service providers are barely sustaining existence in these times. We, therefore, suggest that an increase in value added tax (VAT), which is already included in all services of telecommunication by an increase that is not beyond one per cent, should be a good reform strategy,” he said.

“You may be familiar with the wrist-training device called the Powerball, which is a powerful handheld gyroscope,” HandEnergy co-founder Alex Novik told Digital Trends. “We came up with the idea of putting a battery, metal coil and magnets inside a similar device for generating electricity. We spent a year developing it, trying to find the best materials we could. After around a dozen prototypes, we finally arrived at one that we were happy with.”

To use HandEnergy, users start by winding a starter ring. This transmits a signal to activate the rotor, at which point they can start rotating their wrists to keep the rotor spinning. It might sound hard to believe, but the rotor inside HandEnergy spins at an average speed of 5,000 rotations per minute, transmitting mechanical power to create an electric current, and charging the built-in batteries. To charge a device, all you have to do is hook it up to HandEnergy using a USB cable.

“We don’t necessarily think this will be something that you use every day, because it takes around one hour to reach full capacity,” Novik says. “But it’s small enough to fit in your pocket, and you can use it anywhere if you find yourself someplace with no plugs or available electricity.”

Even though it takes longer to charge, due to the different energy generation system, HandEnergy actually charges smartphones and other gadgets at the same speed as a power outlet.

The battery only has a capacity of 1,000mAh, so it won’t charge your phone completely in one go, but it can definitely keep it running for a while longer when you really need it. Plus, it uses clean, unlimited energy.

HandEnergy was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter, raising over $71,000 in one month, and will be available for the masses in May 2017, at a price of 99 euros.

Meet Kissenger, The Smartphone Accessory That Lets You Kiss Your Partner Even if You're Far Apart

Long distance relationships are always tough, and the lack of physical interaction is one of the main reasons for that. There’s no substituting human touch, yet, but rapidly-advancing technology already provides some intriguing alternatives.

One such example is the Kissenger, a smartphone peripheral that allows users to kiss over long distances.


The concept of long-distance kissing has been an intriguing research concept for over half a decade now. Back in 2012, we wrote about the Kissenger, a solution created by Dr. Hooman Samani, Director of AIART Lab (Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Laboratory) in Singapore.

It consisted of two internet-connected bunny-shaped robots with big silicone lips that could send the touch of human lips between each-other to (sort of) simulate a kiss between two human beings. Samani described it as a “a physical interface enabling kiss communication”.

The Kissinger made international news headlines when it was originally revealed, but it never translated into an actual consumer product.

However, the idea of transmitting human kisses over long distances remained popular, and, earlier this month, Emma Yann Zhang, a Computer Science PhD student at City University London, presented her own take on the idea, also called the Kissenger.

Derived from the words ‘kiss’ and ‘messenger’, the Kissenger works in a similar way as Dr. Samani’s Kissenger, but features a much more practical design. Instead of a cute robot connected to a computer, the Kissenger takes the shape of a smartphone cover, with a large, oval silicone “lip” at the bottom.

All the user has to do is plant a wet one on this silicone pad and built-in high precision force sensors register a user’s lip movements, while miniature linear actuators replicate those movements on a second device used by the person being kissed.

The Kissenger aims to replicate romantic kisses, but as Emma Yann Zhang says, the device can also be used by parents to give their children a kiss on the cheek when they are away at work.

The PhD student presented her invention at the recent Love and Sex with Robots conference, where she said that humans will inevitably become more intimate with A.I. or robots, and being able to share a kiss will play a big part in that kind of relationship.

Zhang admits that her invention still requires a fair bit of work to create a lifelike kissing experience, but she is already working to improve it. She and her team are working on a way to build scent into the Kissenger, so that users can also get the authentic smell of the person they want to kiss.

They also want to record data about blood pressure and heart rate to see if users are affected in the same way that they are by a real kiss.

The Kissenger is still a long way from becoming a real consumer product, but the concept of long-distance kissing is definitely evolving.

In this era of advanced technology, scientists have developed a lifelike robot with warm skin which can even copy real humans down to their dimensions and personality traits.

According to a report by Dailystar, the s*x robots even have pulses and lifelike warm skin like that of a real human. Some are made to look exactly like real life crushes.

Love and S*x with Robots author David Levy said the robots will be available for sale soon. He said the new s*x dolls would be built using photographs and human replicas.

"Once the technology and the whole system of ordering and manufacturing these products becomes sophisticated, you won’t be able to stop your ex-boyfriend if he wants to order a robot that looks like you, same size as you, with the same voice as you," he said.

Already, there is high demand for the lifelike s*x dolls as many people have started experimenting. It is believed that by 2030, realistic versions would be made available. The professor said racy developments in artificial intelligence will allow robots to even sound like that person some celebrities.

He also said they plan to make s*x dolls that look like celebrities.

Dr Levy added: “As the technology improves, the electronic voice will sound more and more like any particular person. “Not only specify the characteristics of your robot, what they’re interested in, what they know about, colour of their eyes, various dimensions. “You’ll also be able to specify exactly how they will look.”

Ordinary people will not have the same rights as celebrities over image rights, he explained. Hollywood stars s*x robots could sell in huge numbers with the A-listers raking in mega cash for licensing their images to developers, the robot expert claims.

Dr Levy explained manufacturers will have to get the permission to licence the celebs' images.

Blackberry users might have been given a reprieve as Whatsapp has announced an extension of its planned shutdown of its service to Blackberry users.

Whatsapp had earlier in the year announced that the app will no longer work on BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 phones come December 31st, 2016. However, it has extended the date till June 30th, 2017 which gives Blackberry time to work on the updates.

The latest announcement was revealed on Whatsapp website via an update to the FAQ section.

So, people are now urged to update their current version to the stipulated version given by Whatsapp in order to retain the use of the app on their phones.

The jockstrap-like device allows the wearer to insert his penis into one of three different-sized condom-like sheaths. He can then urinate through a small tube into the washable and tear-resistant plastic bag which can, apparently, hold nearly a pint's worth of liquid. The fluid collection bag is strapped to the thigh or leg and the urine is directed there with a flexible surgical tube connected to the sheath. 

A spokesperson for the company said: 'The HeWee Go Active fits securely onto the wearer and, unlike medical urination systems, can be washed and reused again and again.'

Scientists in Japan have created an amazing 'electronic skin' which is set to turn humans into walking smartphones. The developers say it could be used in the future to monitor blood oxygen levels, heart rate and the body's overall performance.

The incredible invention will track heart rate and a person's general health - and could leave current exercise and fitness apps irrelevant. The thin film of electronic skin is placed over your own body and it keeps an eye on your heart rate, as well as your general health.

Researchers have used polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) and organic photodetectors (OPDs) which are thin enough to be attached to the skin and flexible to detect and respond to any body movement.
