$2.1m seized cash: Ex-NHIS boss appears before EFCC


Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Dr. Olufemi Thomas has voluntarily submitted himself to EFCC, to clear the air on the $2.1million cash seized at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja- Lagos.

One Mr. Ibiteye Bamidele (pictured above), a bureau de change operator who was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for being in possession of the $2.1m cash suspected to be laundered,  had implicated the ex-NHIS boss.

Two ISIS-bound Nigerian men arrested in India (photo)


Two young Nigerian men, Imran Kabeer 24 and Sani Jamiliu 25, both from Kano state, were arrested today August 7th in India as they made their way allegedly to join the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq

According to reports, the young men were arrested at the India-Pakistan border as they made to scale a barbed wire fence. When interrogated by India's Border Security Force officials, Imran and Sani said they were on their way to Pakistan and then to Iraq to join ISIS but when searched, they had no valid travel documents to enter Pakistan but it was found that they had entered India on August 6th.

Anambra police arrest over 40 students for kidnapping and cult activities



40 suspects accused of involvement in criminal activities, including cultism, kidnapping, car snatching and vandalism, were paraded on Wednesday by the Anambra State Police Command.

Parading the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, Hosea Karma, said the cultists, aged between 14 and 16 years, were students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

Police arraign the lecturer who raped the 18 year old Unilag admission seeker



The police on Thursday arraigned a part-time lecturer, Afeez Baruwa, for allegedly raping an 18-year-old admission seeker. An accusation Baruwa said was false, he said the act was consensual.
 
The 42-year-old lecturer was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Thursday.
The 18 year old victim and her father were in the court premises with agony written on their faces.

Groom sues his bride for not being pretty enough



An Algerian groom took his bride to court just a day after their marriage, accusing her of not looking as pretty as before the wedding and of cheating him with much make-up.

The groom, who is seeking $20,000 damages, told court in the capital Algiers that he was shocked when he got up in the next morning and found that his wife looked so different, that he could not recognise her.

Bigamist and his 'first' wife charged in death of his pregnant wife


 
A bigamist and one of his wives have been charged on Thursday with the murder of his other wife, who was nine months pregnant with his child.
The pair, Christopher Matthew Henderson, 40 and Rhonda Carlson, 42, of New Market, Alabama, have also been charged in connection with the murder of three other people.
Kristen Chambers Henderson, 35, was found dead along with her son, Clayton Chambers, 8, her mother, Jean Smallwood, 67, and Kristen's nephew, Eli Sokolowski, who was one-year-old. 

3 die as thugs loyal to monarchs clash in Ogun State


3 people were killed during a clash between hoodlums reportedly loyal to 2 rival monarchs in the Ijoko, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The two monarchs, Oba Abdulfatahi Matanmi and Oba Lasisi Ogunseye, had been at loggerheads for years over who had sovereignty over the community, with both sides attacking each other.

Bounty hunters mistakenly target sheriff's home



A group of bounty hunters searching for a wanted fugitive only realized they picked the wrong house Tuesday, when the angry local police chief emerged, shirtless.

NorthStar Fugitive Recovery owner Brent Farley, 43, was charged with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct after his group and another contingent of bounty hunters mistakenly targeted the home of Phoenix police chief Joseph Yahner.

Chris Brown demands second paternity test

Buhari approves actions to fast-track environmental clean-up of Ogoniland- Presidency

In keeping with his avowed commitment to working for the development and well-being of all Nigerians, President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday in Abuja approved several actions to fast-track the long delayed implementation of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) Report on the environmental restoration of Ogoniland. 

The actions approved by President Buhari, based on recommendations to him by the Executive Director of UNEP, the UNEP Special Representative for Ogoniland, Permanent Secretaries of the Federal Ministries of Environment and Petroleum Resources, and other stakeholders, include the amendment of the Official Gazette establishing the Hydrocarbon Pollution Restoration Project (HYPREP) to reflect a new governance framework comprising a Governing Council, a Board of Trustees and Project Management.

Okada Riders Abduct And Mercilessly Beat Up A Security Man In Lagos
