Facebook Closes 583 Million Fake Accounts
It said those closures came on top of blocking millions of attempts to create fake accounts every day.
The social media giant also detailed how it enforces “community standards” against s*xual or violent images, terrorist propaganda or hate speech.
Despite this, the group said fake profiles still make up 3-4 percent of all active accounts.
In a report released yesterday, Facebook claimed it “detected almost 100 percent of spam and removed 837 million posts assimilated to spam over the same period.
“Facebook pulled or slapped warnings on nearly 30 million posts containing s*xual or violent images, terrorist propaganda or hate speech during the first quarter.
“Improved technology using artificial intelligence had helped it act on 3.4 million posts containing graphic violence, nearly three times more than it had in the last quarter of 2017.
“In 85.6 percent of the cases, Facebook detected the images before being alerted to them by users,” said the report.
The figure represents between 0.22 and 0.27 percent of the total content viewed by Facebook’s more than two billion users from January through March.
“In other words, of every 10,000 content views, an estimate of 22 to 27 contained graphic violence,” the report added.
Responses to rule violations include removing content, adding warnings to content that may be disturbing to some users while not violating Facebook standards; and notifying law enforcement in case of a “specific, imminent and credible threat to human life”.
Improved IT also helped Facebook take action against 1.9 million posts containing terrorist propaganda, a 73 percent increase. Nearly all were dealt with before any alert was raised, the company said.
It attributed the increase to the enhanced use of photo detection technology. Hate speech is harder to police using automated methods, however, as racist or homophobic, hate speech is often quoted on posts by their targets or activists.

According to The Sun UK, the young woman was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and told she would be risking her life if she carried her 11-week-old baby to term.
The young mum, from North Yorkshire, agreed to a termination and began treatment on the day her baby's heart stopped.
She died yesterday morning after losing the fight with cancer.
Charlotte had spoken about her pregnancy - saying she was excited - before she started feeling unwell.
The then 21-year-old said she suffered excruciating back pain and was extremely tired.
Following a 10 week blood test, she was called in to hospital to stay overnight after an abnormality was found. It was then she was delivered the blow that she had leukaemia and desperately needed treatment.
She told the Mirror: "The only thing I was bothered about was the baby. "But it was either my life or the child's, and I didn't want to die. There was 84 percent cancer cells in my blood."
She agreed to termination and treatment, but only on the condition that she could have a scan to see her baby first.
After two rounds of chemotherapy and a successful bone marrow transplant from her brother, Charlotte's health tragically declined.
Her close friend Jordanna announced her death on Facebook yesterday.
She wrote: "Well, I never thought I'd ever in a million years be having to write this. "A lot of you may have seen Charlotte's post about her going into hospital this morning.
"She is my best friend and has been for many years, she has sadly passed away, she had an infection and couldn't fight it. "I've been to see her little face, she is at peace now, I'm with her mum and her husband we are all trying to stay strong. She was a little fighter but couldn't fight much more."
Charlotte wanted to make routine blood tests a priority for women in the early stages of pregnancy and had set up a petition.
She wrote: "I could only ask that routine blood tests become a thing of priority as without being pregnant I would not of had any idea I was suffering from this and lived with it for god knows how long.
"I would hate someone else to miss out on finding it early and want to do this petition to prevent it."
China bans online sale of Bibles
It’s been reported that searches for the Bible on e-commerce sites JD.com and Amazon.com don’t produce results.
Although China had always controlled sales of the Bible by only allowing it to be distributed and printed by state-sanctioned churches, it had been available to buy online.
The disappearance of Bibles on internet retailers is the latest restriction the country had placed on its fast-growing Christian population.

The crackdown on Christians in China has meant that crosses have been removed from churches, churches have been demolished, and Christians suspected of worshiping at home have been detained.
A new Chinese government white paper on religious freedoms published this week asserted that all faiths must “adapt themselves to the socialist society”.
William Nee, China researcher at Amnesty International, said the Vatican should address the online Bible sale ban with Beijing.
Chinese Catholic bishops and the Vatican have not good relations for decades because Chinese Catholic bishops are not appointed by the Pope. However, both sides have shown some progress in reconciliation in recent weeks.
Nee said: “[The Vatican] should probably take this issue into consideration in its discussions with their Chinese counterparts, since the banning of the sale of Bibles is obviously a worrying move, demonstrating the worsening state for freedom of religion in China.
“[There is] a broader trend under President Xi Jinping to more tightly control religion, especially Christianity.
“It’s absurd that the government claims to promote religious freedom at the same time that they’re banning the sale of Bibles.”

President Trump Ranked As The Worst U.S President In History

President Donald Trump has been ranked as the worst U.S. President in history in a Presidents’ Day poll of political scientists that ranked all 44 of the people who have served as U.S. president.
Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Teddy Roosevelt respectively took the top four spots in the Boise State University “Presidential Greatness Survey.”
While Trump is the 45th President, one of his predecessors, Grover Cleveland, was elected two separate times, making him the 22nd and 24th President, who ranked as 24th on the survey.
The experts were asked to rank each president on a scale from zero – worst – to 100 – best – based on their overall performance in office. Their rankings showed that Trump came in last place with an average score of 12.34.
Coming in first place, according to the survey, is Abraham Lincoln, who scored an average of 95.03 between both Democrats and Republicans surveyed while George Washington got a rating of 92.59. Just over 57 per cent of those polled identified as Democrats while 13 per cent were Republican and 27 per cent were Independents.
The top seven presidents that have remained the same since the poll was last conducted in 2014: Lincoln, Washington, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, Harry Truman, and Dwight D. Eisenhower.
In the latest round of survey, former president Barack Obama moved up in the rankings to 8th best president, compared to 18th he ranked in the 2014 survey. Even Republican respondents rated Trump as the fourth worst president – 40th of 44th while they placed Obama as the 16th.
Ronald Reagan, who also moved up from his previous ranking, trailed behind Obama in 9th place.
Bearing in mind that this was Trump’s first year in office, the survey takers asked respondents to grade him on an A-F scale. He was graded on the subjects: his presidency overall, legislative accomplishments, foreign policy leadership, embodying institutional norms, and communicating with the public. Overall, scholars gave him failing grades – three Fs and two Ds – while he scored highest on communicating with the public and lowest on embodying institutional norms.
However, self-identifying Republicans graded the 45th president higher – three Ds and two Cs. The higher marks awarded Trump were in communicating with the public and foreign policy leadership.
Trump was rated worse than President Richard Nixon, who quit under pressure from the Watergate scandal, ranking as 33rd.
Trump was also rated below William Henry Harrison who died after only a month in office – from March 4, 1841 to April 4, 1841. Even Warren Harding, whose presidency was afflicted by the Teapot Dome corruption scandal and his dalliances with mistresses, rated higher than Trump at 39th.
Trump also “won” the most polarising President, ahead of Andrew Jackson who won the second position.
“Donald Trump is by far the most polarising of the ranked presidents,” poll authors Brandon Rottinghaus and Justin Vaughn wrote.

Couple Found Dead In A Car After They Turned Engine On To Keep Warm During Sex
A naked couple was found dead in a car and it is believed they suffocated after turning on the engine to keep warm while having sex.
The bodies of a 39-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were discovered by police in a locked garage in the city of Bottrop in western Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia state.
The names of the couple have not been released but investigators say it appears they turned on the car engine to get warm, leading to their suffocation.
The man had been reported missing by his family after he had not been seen for days. This led to a search. Meanwhile, officers in the city had also started an investigation into the woman’s sudden disappearance. Police later opened the garage door to find the couple dead. Nobody had noticed the car engine had been left running for hours behind the metal gate of the garage which is located behind a commercial building.
Police said there appeared to be no evidence of a crime but forensic scientists were working hard to establish exactly what happened. Tests are being carried out to ascertain CO levels in the blood of the couple.
A police spokesman said: “At the moment all evidence points to an accident. To put all doubts to rest, the public prosecutor ordered an autopsy be performed on the bodies.”

His friend then said, “You’re happy now, innit?” The Reverend replied, “I’m a very happy man. I love it.”
He is seen staring at a TV, apparently watching porn, and adds: “It f***ing turns me on when I have this and I watch that.”
Kirby, who is the vicar of West Ham Parish Church in East London since 2007, then makes a crude mouth-action reference and refers to women in a lewd way.
The vicar and his pal also discuss ‘hiring a Follow’ and he says: “I wish I could. If I had money, I would. I’ve only got £10 left.”
When his friend told him he prefers prostitutes to having a relationship, unmarried Mr Kirby — on sick leave from work — agrees.
Kirby, known by his middle name, Roger, says: “It’s too much hassle, that’s what I told you about women.”
Later his pal asks him: “Shall I make you a cocaine spliff?” Mr Kirby replies: “If you don’t mind.”
As music plays, the vicar reveals he is planning a trip to central London the next day. He says: “I’m going to Soho with my mate for dinner. I’m going to sex shops to get some poppers. Possession is not illegal.”
In other footage, Mr Kirby, whose brother is a minister, can be seen snorting coke.
His pal said taking it off the back of his hand is easier. Seconds later, Mr Kirby says approvingly: “That is good.”

According to The Associated Press, an Aseman Airlines ATR-72, a twin-engine turboprop used for short-distance regional flying, went down near its destination of the southern Iranian city of Yasuj, some 780 kilometers (485 miles) south of the Iranian capital, Tehran.
Aseman Airlines spokesman Mohammad Taghi Tabatabai told state TV that all on the flight were killed.
The plane carried 60 passengers, including one child, and six crew members.
Due to foggy condition, rescue helicopters couldn’t reach the crash site in the Zagros Mountains, state TV reported.
Tabatabai said the plane crashed into Mount Dena, which is about 440-meters (1,440-feet) tall.
Aseman Airlines is a semi-private air carrier headquartered in Tehran that specializes in flights to remote airfields across the country. It also flies internationally.
The Iranian Red Crescent said it has deployed to the area. Authorities said they would be investigating.
Under decades of international sanctions, Iran’s commercial passenger aircraft fleet has aged, with air accidents occurring regularly in recent years.
