A loving couple, Ayebameru and Olanike, were billed to tie the knot the next day but the bride-to-be ended up in the kidnappers den where she cooled her heels for six days when she should have been on her honeymoon.

The wedding had to be put on hold by families of the bride and groom following the ugly incident. Despite the fact that the news of the abduction of the would-be bride went viral, some relations and well wishers, who were not privy to the ugly incident were taken aback for the wedding.

Just imagine this... One of the gang member named Ayodeji, said to be physically handicapped was said to be the informant, while the wife, Adebimpe is their armorer. 

The bride was abducted in front of her house located at Mama Nigeria street, Ayeka on a Friday together with her son and taken to an unknown destination until she was rescued a week after.

Police source hinted that the bride who had gone for shopping with her son in her Space Wagon car ahead of the wedding was double-crossed by the kidnapper. 

According to Vanguard, the groom (Ayebameru Agbeye) who was informed by the bride's parents, reported the incident to the Okitipupa police divisional station and was referred to the anti-cult squad of the state command. The son and a Mitsubushi Space Wagon car were later abandoned by the kidnappers to avoid being traced by security operatives, who were on their trail.

The anti-cult squad of the Ondo State Police Command after six days busted the syndicate and effected the release of the bride. The wedding has since been put on hold after the temporary setback.

One of the kidnappers, Phillip Ezekiel, who spoke with Vanguard when they were paraded confessed that their leader Ufoma Godwin, coordinated all the activities of the gang. Godwin is currently hospitalized following injuries he sustained during a gun battle with detectives. 

Phillip said that the cripple couple within the gang provided information on would-be victims.

According to him, the gang preferred abducting females just as he confessed that they have, March this year, abducted five women including the two catholic reverend sisters. 

Phillips said that N50,000 was given to him as his share from the N200,000 ransom they collected from the family of one of their victims. The police say they would all be charged to court.

Nigerian Doctor, Anthony Madu, Caught In Fraud In UK; To Pay £75,000 or End Up in Jail

People really need to try avoid cutting corners, to avoid problems. A disgraced doctor who moonlighted while on sick pay must pay back £75,000 to the NHS or face two years in jail.

Gynaecologist Dr Anthony Madu, 45, secretly carried out well-paid locum work while he claimed to be sick and was on paid sick leave from another hospital. Just imagine!

Nigerian-born Dr. Madu was convicted of six charges of fraud and given a two-year suspended sentence. He has now been told at a Proceeds of Crime hearing that he must repay £75,620.73 within six months or go to prison.

Madu was given an obstetrics and gynaecology registrar post at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, in August 2009.

But he was suspended and put on extended leave just two months later over allegations about his conduct towards other staff and claims he had falsified his training record.

From January 2010, he submitted sick notes on three occasions, saying he could not work because of stress. But went on to earn huge sums as a locum at four hospitals in Manchester, Yorkshire and the Midlands.

Prosecutor Christian Jowett told Cardiff Crown Court that Madu, now living in Woolwich, London, transferred £95,000 to a bank account in Nigeria.

The prosecutor Mr Jowett said: "He was legally obliged to tell his employers about his work but he did not. He was also legally obliged to tell two locum agencies he was on extended leave and had been granted sickness leave. But he continued to work and receive payment."

According to Daily Mail, Judge David Wynn Morgan said Dr. Madu will never be able to practise medicine in the UK again.

After the hearing, Cheryl Hill, a counter-fraud specialist for the NHS, said: "This is a very satisfactory outcome. Dr Anthony Madu defrauded the NHS of money which should have been spent on patient care."

Wahala dey oh! A community based organization of s*x workers, Ohotu Diamond Women Initiative (ODWI) has called on the Nigerian Police to stop abuse on sex workers. In a statement by the group, they lamented over what they termed the widely misunderstanding status about s*x work:

“The illegal status of s*x work in most countries, including Nigeria has not eradicated prosti-tution. Instead, criminalization has increased s*x workers vulnerability to human rights abuses and created fertile ground for police exploitation, especially of brothel and street-based s*x workers.

“S*x workers deserve the basic respect and protection from violence that each nation owes its citizens. But in many settings, police abuse of s*x workers receives scant public attention despite its entrenched global reality. Street and brothel-based female s*x workers, one of Lagos and Abuja most vulnerable populations, find themselves targeted for arrest by police, and they experience high levels of violence that go unpunished.

Current city and law enforcement policies towards s*x workers create a cycle of arrest that does not result in appropriate or long term solutions for the community or s*x workers,” the statement reads.

On the challenges s*x workers face, the Ashawo group said: “The challenge that we face as 50 participants from different L.G.As are almost similar. Many of us face violence and discrimination on a regular basis. Regardless of which State or tribe we are from, many of us have experienced being r*ped, verbally, emotionally and physically abused by police, clients and community members. 

“There is an unfair discrimination from service providers. S*x workers are not protected or defended by the law when they are exploited and abused. We demand that these violations stop immediately and decisive action is taken against perpetrators.” 

The statement further revealed how s*x workers suffer abuse from the Nigerian Police Officers.

“Thirty percent of s*x workers interviewed said that they had been threatened with violence by police officers, while 27% actually experienced violence at the hands of police. Reported incidents included officers physically grabbing and kicking, as well as beating them; one incident of r*pe; one woman was stalked by a police officer; and throwing food at one subject.

S*xual harassment included handling of body parts; giving women cigarettes in exchange for s*x; and police offering not to arrest s*x workers in exchange for s*xual services. 

"Several times Police have raided our hotels; beating, stealing and having s*x with us without protection." 

To curtail the abuses s*x workers suffer from Policemen, the Executive Director of Safe Haven Development Initiative, Ms Margaret Onah has criticised the method of which Policemen uses to extort money from s*x workers and abuse. 

According to Onah, the Nigerian Policemen are not mindful of the fundamental human rights that should be accorded to s*x workers. 

“It is dehumanising when Policemen abuses s*x workers the way they do. We are using this channel to voice out our pains in the course of survival. The government needs to do something about it. It is better if s*x workers are charged to court than naming them, harassing them, stealing their money, stealing their properties, and having s*x with them unprotected.” 

On what could be done to end the abuse by Policemen, Ms Margaret said: “the Police needs to re-strategise. The fact that s*x work is illegal doesn’t mean that they should kill anyone find doing the job. S*x workers are citizen of this country first of all, and they need to be respected like every other citizen.”

One of the Ashawo girls, Esther Eghosa said: “Time without numbers, the Policemen break our doors to start packing us like goats to the station. If you don’t have money to bail yourself, they will say they want to sleep with you unprotected which is very bad.

Eghosa, who is a s*x worker, further stress that, “As a woman in the brothel, we protect ourselves, we use condoms, but with the Policemen, you don’t have a say.”

A pregnant woman has been reportedly murdered and her private parts dismembered by yet to be identified ritualists who operate with impunity in Gboroko village via Alapa in Asa area of Kwara State.

Investigations by Thisday revealed that the incident happened around 4:30pm last Saturday in Gboroko. It was gathered that the innocent pregnant woman along with a twelve years old daughter of her neighbour were waylaid and murdered in cold blood.

According to reports, the deceased woman whose fetus was removed was a popular patent medicine seller in the area, who was going for business transaction in the next village when the incident occurred.

An eyewitness told journalists in Ilorin that the lady was ambushed by the bad guys who murdered her.

The Kwara state police command is said to be trying to crack the case.

Tragedy in Lagos as Shopkeeper Kills Okada Driver Over Bottled Water

A 29-year-old shopkeeper identified as Ekanem Enodan has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly killing a commercial motorcyclist, Goddonu Nicolas, during an altercation in Oke-Ira in the Ogba area of the state metropolis.


According to Punch, the 46-year-old victim was killed over a bottle of water he picked from Enodan’s shop on Ajayi Road, Oke-Ira as the suspect allegedly hit Nicolas with the bottled water on the chest, saying he took it without his permission.

It was gathered that the victim fell and became unconscious after which he was rushed to the Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead as the matter was reported at the Pen-Cinema Police Division and Enodan was arrested.

A commercial motorcyclist who is an eye witness in Ajayi Road on Monday, said the deceased was suspected to be drunk on the day of the incident.

“The suspect lives in an estate in the OPIC area of Ogun State, but his shop is in Oke-Ira. He is from Calabar, Cross River State. Nicolas and his younger brother went to the man’s shop on Wednesday, around 10.30pm.

“They were all discussing when an argument ensued. Nicolas took a bottle of water, but the shopkeeper collected it from him and hit him with it on the chest. He slumped. We rushed him to a public hospital where he died.

“Nicolas had five children. We suspect that he was drunk on that day before coming to the shop because of the way he was talking. The deceased had always come to the suspect’s shop to play and buy things. “The fight started after Nicolas picked the bottle of water; and it started like a child’s play until Nicolas fell and became unconscious. It was the deceased’s brother who reported the incident at the police station,” he said.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident and said that the victim’s corpse had been deposited in a morgue for autopsy.

“The victim was hit with a bottle by the suspect during a quarrel. The suspect is in police custody. The victim was rushed to the Ifako General Hospital where he later died.

The corpse has been deposited in the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.”

Niger Delta Avengers Agree To Dialogue With FG, States Conditions

The Niger Delta Avengers, have agreed to dialogue with the Federal Government. A statement issued yesterday by its spokesman, Brig. Gen Mudoch Agbinibo called on its members to ceasefire pending the outcome of the dialogue with the federal government.

The statement reads in full:


”The high command of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) is using this medium to restate that there are no new items to put on the table for dialogue, we only want a genuine attitude and conducive atmosphere that will make us commit to any proposed dialogue and last peace talk.

We want the federal government to commit members states of the multi national Oil Corporations to commit independent mediators to this proposed dialogue; we believed that it is only such environment that will engender genuine dialogue that will be aimed at setting up a framework for achieving the short, medium and long term demands of the Niger delta to de-escalating this conflict and bring about a lasting peace.

”The NDA high command is restating our commitment to attack the interest of oil corporation and international refineries operators that bring in vessels to the Niger delta territory to buy our oil that every successive government have refused to used and reapply the proceeds towards any development in the region since 1958.

If they refuse be heed to our advice will result to sinking of two their mother vessel as an examples to others They should not undertake any repair of pipeline, oil and gas facilities that is damaged or attacked by our forces during this period of “Operation Red Economy” until and/or after the dialogue.

”We are using this medium to warn and condemn the activities of all brands of social media agitators being peddled around by some politicians to promote their criminal ways in affairs of the Niger Delta. This genuine spirit behind our struggle for the Niger Delta cannot be derailed on the basis of connivance by politician, traditional rulers, settled ex- agitators and criminals moving around to fill their pockets.

”The issues of the Niger delta are as old and as new as the days of Pa. Dappa Biriye, Major Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro, to Ken Saro Wiwa and the government of President Musa Yar’ Adua.

We are warning this government of President muhammadu Buhari, not to turn the essence of genuine peace talk and dialogue to political jamboree that is prevailing now where all manner of social media agitators and criminals have being sponsored by the job seeking corrupt political class to safe faces before the government of the day.

”Finally, if need be, we may review our earlier stance of not taking lives. We are going to redirect and reactivate all our activities if the government, oil companies and their services firms don’t heed to these modest warnings of not carrying out any repairs works and suspend the buying of crude oil from our region as we await the right atmosphere that will engender genuine dialogue.

Beware Of Scammers, FRSC Not Recruiting – Corps Marshal Warns Nigerians

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has said that it is not carrying out a recruitment exercise and warned Nigerians against falling victim of the antics of scammers.

The FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, who denied the purported recruitment exercise, also warned officials of the corps against peddling such rumours, adding that if caught, they would be punished in accordance with the FRSC Disciplinary Codes.


A statement by the Head, Media Relations and Strategy, FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, quoted Mr. Oyeyemi as saying these on Monday, while addressing staff of the National Headquarters at the Corps Marshal’s weekly Parade in Abuja.

“My attention was drawn to the rumour, and I want to put it directly to you, that FRSC is neither recruiting nor doing any form of replacement as people are insinuating outside”, he said.

The FRSC boss attributed the rumour to fraudsters, whose aim he said, was to dupe unsuspecting members of the public. He assured the general public that the FRSC would follow due process and ensure wide publicity whenever it is carrying out a recruitment exercise.

Mr. Oyeyemi further warned officials of the corps against indiscipline and criminality, disclosing that he was disturbed by reports that some officials of the corps were involved in crime and the peddling of rumours.

“I am disturbed by the activities of some staff members, who are fond of rushing to the media, especially radio, to spread lies that undermine the integrity of the FRSC”, he said. “That must stop forthwith. I have made it clear before that I would never allow anything that goes against the interest of the staff, and I stand by that commitment”.

An angry middle aged man was filmed viciously beating his wife and daughter in a village in the East African country. He started by beating his wife but turned to his daughter when she used a stone to hit him to get him to stop beating her mum.

Every other person, including able-bodied men just stood there and watched as he attacked the two women with a cutlass.

100 Witches Storm Government Office Demanding for Their Allowances (Photos)

It was chaos and confusion as over one hundred alleged witches stormed the office of the District Chief Executive over LEAP allowance (Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty) at Gushegu in the Northern region of Ghana Monday morning.


According to information gathered by Starr News, the women who are camped at Kpatinga, Nabuli and Leli'tabari allegedly for possessing spiritual powers stormed the administration block singing dirges and demanding payment of their LEAP allowance.

This resulted in a halt in activities as Assembly officials found it tough controlling the alleged witches. Even after they begged and promised them to look into the matter, the alleged witches refused to leave.

According to the leader of the group Alimatu Sadia, government through the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection registered them as LEAP beneficiaries but they have since received nothing for two years.

She decried government's indifference to the poor and widows as they promised to vote against it. It took a team of religious leaders in the community to calm the alleged witches.

The district officer in charge of social welfare Mr. Tia S. Dokurugu told Starr News that there was little his outfit could do because they had compiled names of all beneficiaries to the headquarters in Accra and was only waiting for the funds to be released for payment.

Richard Macaulay Obafemi 

45-year old Richard Macaulay Obafemi, will have a long time to rue over the day his life took a wrong turn that led him into armed robbery and car-snatch­ing as has been alleged by the police.

Until he descended into the new career, Obafemi was a medical doctor, who according to his account, had his primary and secondary school education at Ipaja, Lagos State before proceeding to the Univer­sity College London, UCL, where he obtained a degree in Microbiology in 1987 and later studied medicine at UCL, from 1987-1992.


In 1993, he did the housemanship in Hatsfield, London. In 1996, Obafemi came to Nigeria for the Nation­al Youth Service Corps Scheme and was posted to Kwara State.

At the end of the service year, Obafemi took up appointment with the College of Medicine, University of Benin, where he worked for two years from 1998 to 2000, before travelling to Saudi Arabia.

“I worked at the Royal Medical Centre, Jeddah, for four years. Subsequently, I got another employment offer from the University of Ghana, in 2006 and worked there till 2015.”

Continuing the tale, Obafemi who hails from Sagamu Local Government Area, Ogun State said: “In 2015, I came to Nige­ria and visited Kaduna State. During that trip, a car I was driving had an accident and the victim died. I was charged to court and remanded at Kaduna Central Prison. But I was later released from prison on April 8, 2016.

While in prison, Obafemi met and developed friendship with Stephen and Ifeanyi, who were also awaiting trial. After he was released, Obafemi linked up with Stephen and Ifeanyi who had also regained freedom. Within a short time, they convinced him to join their armed robbery and car-snatch­ing gang.

“After I left prison, I had followed Ifeanyi to Asaba and joined their gang, which specialized in snatching cars. We have stolen cars like Lexus, SUV in Lagos State, which I drove to Katsina State to sell to buyers from Niger Repub­lic. I sold one for N450,000,” Obafemi said.

Prodded on why he did not return to Ghana after being released from prison, Obafemi told Sunday Sun reporter: “I didn’t go back to University of Ghana because when I was in prison in Kaduna, I didn’t communicate with them. “When I came out from prison, I found out that there was no going back. I decided to join the armed robbery gang to earn a living. I am married and blessed with three children. I lost my wife, Mary in 2012 while my three children are in Canada.”

A popular Nigerian parlance says, “many days for the thief, one day for the owner of the house.” Again, the Good Book teaches that when the cup of iniquity fills up, it spills over.

For Obafemi and his alleged comrades in crime, the day of reckoning arrived when an alleged member of the gang, Valentine (surname with­held) was arrested in Onitsha by operatives of the Special Armed Robbery Squad of the Anambra Police Command and he spilled the beans, revealing the involvement of Obafemi in their activities who was at the time in a hotel (name withheld) in Onitsha, and explained that he had been there for four days waiting for the gang to bring cars he was to drive to Katsina and onwards to Niger Republic.

Armed with this information, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hosea Karma told Sunday Sun reporter that SARS operatives stormed the hotel on May 17, 2016 and arrested Obafemi.

The head of SARS, Supol Ben Abang further informed Sunday Sun that the gang had for long been a terror to owners of SUVs, noting that the gang operated mainly along the Awka-Enugu Expressway.

After a series of success­ful car-snatching escapades, members of the gang would disappear from the town and go to Lagos to cool off, while waiting for the stolen cars to be sold before returning for more operations. It was during the last operation of the gang that Valentine was arrested.

When he spoke with Sunday Sun, Valentine confessed that the gang had been involved in several robbery operations in Asaba, Delta State and Anam­bra State.
