Photos: LASTMA official allegedly beats motorist to convulsion

A LASTMA official by the name Asorona stopped a car he claimed had violated traffic rules, removed the man from the car and allegedly assaulted him around 7.30 am this morning in front of BRT yard at Ketu bus stop. He and his colleagues also seized the man's car. And before anyone knew what was happening, the young man fell down on the road into convulsion, shaking, according to eye witnesses, like an epileptic patient. As the LASTMA official tried to leave the scene, he was surrounded by passersby who insisted he must stay there to see what happens to the man. See more photos after the cut...

Boko Haram reportedly recaptures 45 out of 63 that escaped from them

They escaped last week and they've already been recaptured? Makes no sense to me but according to new reports, 45 out of the 63 women and children who reportedly escaped from Boko Haram men on Saturday July 5th have been re-abducted by the sect men.

Vanguard reports that a member of the Chibok Vigilante Group, Abbas Gaya in a telephone interview confirmed the recapturing of the women who fled the Boko Haram camp when the men attacked a military base at Damboa village in Borno state

“It is very unfortunate and shocking to tell you today (yesterday) that 45 of the 63 escaped women and children were kidnapped again on Sunday night, leaving only 18 that ran into this forests.” he said
Nah, nah, nah! Not buying this...sounds too weird.

Police Arrests Ekiti APC Leader and Others For Armed Robbery

The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos, on Monday paraded a chief of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, Itunnu Odeyemi and eight others, saying they were notorious for the snatching exotic cars in parts of the country.

The arrest of Ajewole, a 28-year-old man from Ilesha, Osun State, had led to the arrest of other members of the gang which included Itunnu Odeyemi, who Ajewole also claimed was his political godfather.

But while speaking with journalists, Odeyemi denied being a member of any robbery gang. He said he provided Ajewole with a locally-made gun, which the police have recovered, to protect him during the period of the recently concluded governorship election in Ekiti State.
He said, “Omoniyi (Ajewole) is my political thug. I brought him to my place and gave him a gun to secure me. I have never participated in any robbery operation, but he used to escort me with the gun. Having an escort was part of the gains of being a political leader. All APC leaders were working for the government during the election...
“Every political party, including ours has factions. That was why I gave him the gun, so that he could always protect me wherever I went. I also told him to be with me, particularly as the Ekiti election was approaching then. I had seen the gun on the ground during the 2007 elections violence in the state and had kept it.”

Ajewole, who was caught by police, confessed during interrogation that he had been working as a political thug for the APC chieftain. He said, “He had given me the gun to use in protecting him during campaign violence. But I had not yet used the gun before I was arrested in September 2013. I am not a robber. I prefer to be called a political thug. I was the only one the honourable (Odeyemi) gave the gun, and he also paid me salary.”

The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, said the suspects were arrested after a victim, who was robbed of two vehicles and other valuables on June 27, 2013 in Ile-Ife, Osun State, reported to the police. He added that the case was later transferred to the FSARS.

Punch reports that after the arrest of the gang, the FSARS were able to recover 17 stolen cars in different parts of the country, most of which were Toyota and Honda. Three assorted guns were also recovered from them.

Mba said the suspects would soon be arraigned in court.

He said, “This is a case that started on June 27, 2013, when a Nigerian was robbed of two vehicles and other valuables and he reported the incident to the police. This arrest is one of the achievements of the FSARS. It led to the arrest of nine suspects who were clearly linked with not just the armed robbery reported, but a series of such in the country.

“An interesting aspect of the arrest is that Ajewole confessed to the police that he was not an armed robber, but also a political thug working for Odeyemi Itunnu from Efon Alaaye, Ekiti State. We want to warn politicians to steer clear of actions that are capable of posing a threat to the security of the country.”

Other members of the nine-man gang are Omoniyi Ajewole, Oluseye Jacob, Oluwadamiliare Rasaki, Ajisafe Olawale, Ogunniyi Sunday, Tolani Babatunde, Abubakar Umar, and Ayodeji Olumudi.

Soldiers Clear Boko Haram Forest Base: Capture Foreign Agent

Despite their limitations, Nigeria's security forces are getting on top of their game in the fight against the blood sucking Boko Haram sect. A group of gallant soldiers have recorded a major breakthrough. More photos...

A statement by the Military authorities reads:
“Troops have cleared and taken over Balmo forest in a military operation that lasted throughout the weekend. Prior to the operation, Balmo forest stretching from Bauchi through Jigawa States with links to the fringes of Sambisa forest was used by terrorists as bases and hideouts for launching attacks.

“Terrorists and armed gangs operating in the forests were completely rooted out while some were captured during the operation. Among those captured were two foreigners who are suspected to be mercenaries. Also captured are several weapons and equipment including power generating sets, communication equipment, vehicles, motorcycles, foodstuff and kitchen utensils.

“In another development, over 44 terrorists have died in Kerenoa and adjoining communities, following an encounter with troops who repelled their attack on the communities. Armed with IEDs and other high caliber weapons, a large number of terrorists had carried out a predawn attack on the communities but met with stiff resistance of the troops. During the operation, several of them were captured as well as weapons and ammunitions of various calibre.

“Meanwhile, troops on routine patrol around Banki and Miyanti in Borno State during the weekend fought through an ambush laid by terrorists resulting in casualties on both sides. Altogether, a total of 6 soldiers were lost in the various encounters with terrorists during the weekend while those wounded are receiving treatment.

I’ve Touched The Lives of Every Family In Osun –Gov Aregbesola

As the Osun State gubernatorial election scheduled for August 9 gathers momentum, candidate of the APC and the incumbent governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has said that loss of Ekiti by his party to the PDP in the June 21 Ekiti governorship poll does not move him, saying that he has touched every family in Osun with the programmes of his administration.
Aregbesola alleged that the Federal Government has not only reduce his state's monthly allocation by 40% but has also not been paying the states as and when due. Describing the development as an equivalent of economic war against the the people of Osun, the governor said:
“Our allocation has been reduced by 40 per cent and it doesn’t come early for us to meet the necessary obligation to our people. We collected May allocation on June 26.
“I said at a rally recently that from what I have heard from their grapevine because they had a meeting where they [PDP agents] said that, squeeze them [APC government]; if they can’t pay salary, you will create problem for them. Mark my words; they might not give us June allocation until the end of August.
“But we will pay our workers, already we have paid June. If the demonstration of interest in workers in their remuneration and allowances counts and with what we have done for them, I cannot believe all the workers will be against us because we have done our best."

Speaking with newsmen in Oshogbo at the weekend, Aregbesola said his government emerged through popular forces powered by Osun people. He said: “As a loyal APC member, the outcome of Ekiti election disturbed me, but as the head of a government that has worked so well with the people, I don’t even see the effect. When I look at my engagement with the people, the products of my government which has not left any home unaffected positively, I said if election is about acceptance, popularity and impact you have made on the people, we are waiting for what the dictate of democracy would be.

“In a credible, transparent, free and fair election, Rauf Aregbesola does not have any worry at all about what people will say about his administration. I came here from the street and it is easy for me to go back to the street. My real home is on the street, whoever will hold me on the street will try.

“I laugh when they talk about me because they don’t know I am from the street. I am a product of the popular forces, the people and I am part and parcel of them. I emanated from them and I am a product of their struggles.”

Making reference to stomach infrastructure, Aregbesola said such will not arise in Osun, adding: “What is now known as stomach infrastructure is what we know as interaction, engagement, living with the people and meeting their aspirations and needs. That is what we have been doing from the very beginning of this administration; I feed their children every day. I identify with them on a daily basis in their struggle to live and they understand that everything we do is to make live easy for them.

“My administration does not suffer alienation from the people, it is one and same with the people and that is the basis of our confidence in their ever ready support at all times. There is no trade, commercial or social group in the state of Osun that we have not impacted, and positively too.”

He affirmed his administration’s cordial relationship with four major critical stakeholders in the state; teachers, civil servants, market women and students.
