I Greet My Husband everyday with Kiss – Mrs Alakija, Nigeria's Richest Woman

In this interesting chat with Punch, Nigeria and Africa's richest woman, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija makes some very strong points about life and marriage. Everyone should learn from this:

At 65, is age just a number, do you look forward to 100 years or do you wish you were younger?
For me, every day of my life is a new day, a new beginning. It is a testimony. I look at everyday as something that is a new challenge. I don’t see my age to be something that tells me, ‘Oh! You are getting older and won’t be able to do this or that’. I appreciate every new day and take it as it comes. I tackle everything I need to tackle. I don’t feel tired easily. I feel as young as I was many years back. Yes, now and again, you get the odd pain here and there but you think nothing of it. You get your regular medical checkups and just move on with whatever you need to do. You do it and then it is about what is next.

You have been married for close to 40 years. Are you still in love with your husband the way you were when you met him many years ago?
If anyone of us is abroad, for instance, the two of us would make sure that we call each other a minimum of twice a day. We have spoken three times already today. If it wasn’t that I was running late for the interview, I would have picked up the phone again to ask him to buy me three brushes but I had to give the job to my assistant to do. So every little thing, we are talking throughout the day.

You are still friends?

Very much so too. We are lovers, friends, brother and sister.

Where did you meet him?
We met at a party in Surulere, Lagos, two weeks after I relocated to Nigeria from England. The party was in the evening. So my brother, his fiancée and I were attending that event and we were all seated together. Then came along my husband-to-be; he said to me ‘why are you following your brother about’? I said ‘what do you mean’? Then he accosted my brother who he knew well and said your sister is a big girl, why are you allowing her to follow you about?
Then my brother said, ‘stay away from my sister. Leave her alone’. Anyway, we got talking and after the party, he suggested that I should sit with him in his car rather than sit in my brother’s car so we could carry on with our conversation and we would be driving in a convoy back to our abodes. So we carried on talking and said goodnight. But from that night, unless one of us is abroad, there has been no day that we have not seen each other. Ever since that day, we have seen each other every day unless one person is away and the other is somewhere else.

Your name is more popular than your husband's. Do you know if sometimes in his sober moment, he asks himself ‘why is my wife more popular than I am’?
I believe that that is on the contrary. You know why? He is extremely shy. He does not like publicity. I’m an extrovert; I don’t mind publicity. I like to throw parties; he likes to listen to music.

Nowadays, marriages fail a lot but what would you describe as the secret that has sustained your marriage for so long?
A lot of things make marriages break. What I have noticed over the years is that a marriage doesn’t break suddenly or in a day; it is a gradual process. And the earlier you nip it in the bud, the better. And it is always better to know what the dos and don’ts of marriage are before you get into it so that you don’t get your fingers burnt and so that you can enjoy rather than endure your marriage. One of the tenements of marriage is that you must communicate with one another. If you do not talk to one another regularly enough, your love can begin to grow cold. You may begin to drift apart and then other things begin to set in. The Bible tells us that if one person offends the other, you need to take care of that matter immediately and not let it degenerate. Do not let it degenerate into something that you will still be sulking about the next day because with every action, there is reaction and with every reaction, there is a counter reaction. I counsel partners and one of the things I tell them is never to make the mistake of having separate bedrooms from the very start. Make sure you share one bedroom even if you have 10 bedrooms.

And not only that, if you tell the carpenter to make your bed to be from one wall to another, you are making the biggest mistake. It can separate you. When you quarrel, it won’t help. But when there is nowhere to turn and you end up kicking one another, you will make up quickly. One of the things I do to break the ice rather than let things degenerate is to ask my husband to help do my zip even when I can do it by myself. I have broken the ice.

You are bound to quarrel because you are two human beings. If anyone tells you they have a perfect marriage, it is a lie. Yes, they may be compatible and be having a good time but that does not mean it is perfect. It doesn’t exist. Make sure that you set up the values that you will use to run your home and bring up your children. I greet my husband good morning with a kiss. There are different ways of showing submission. It is not that we are asking you [the wife] to put your head on the floor so that he [your husband] can trample on it. No! We are saying show your husband respect. It is the will of God. Speak to him nicely. There is no man that you would treat like that and would not honour, respect, appreciate and do whatever you ask of him when you ask for a favour. He would go all out with pleasure and even go the extra mile to do whatever you ask of him. That is what a lot of people don’t realise.
Likewise, a man should love his wife; that is what the Bible says. He should honour his wife and not bring a girlfriend into the matrimonial home and say what can she do? Are you supposed to do that? Is it fair? Is it right? Is it because you are stronger than her physically? One thing will lead to another and the marriage will degenerate. Once it starts degenerating and you don’t quickly nip it in the bud, it may lead to separation or divorce.

FOR REAL? APC Exposes PDP as Sponsors of #NDAvengers

The All Progressives Congress has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party of sponsoring the new terror group, Niger Delta Avengers, to launch series of attacks against oil pipelines in Nige Delta.

The South South zone of the APC, in a meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, on Friday, condemned the act of sabotage with regards to the renewed attacks in the region, and said the main objective of the Niger Delta Avengers was to frustrate and derail President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
The APC said: “The zone is cocksure that the nefarious and ruinous activities of the ‘Avengers’ are not driven by any patriotic and altruistic impulse.”
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the party said, “We have compelling reasons to strongly assert that these activities are sponsored and instigated by the opposition PDP to derail and frustrate the APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari because of its determination to fight against corruption, stabilise and put our country on the path of sustainable development.”

The communiqué, signed by APC National Vice-Chairman South South, Hilliard Eta, and Zonal Secretary, Steven Ezekwem, also rejected the inclusion of Niger Delta region in the “imaginary State of Biafra”.

The party, which described the inclusion as “dubious”, said, “Niger Delta is not, cannot and will never be part of Biafra.”

I Won't Let My Daughter End Up as a 'Baby Mama' Like Me - Singer, Waje Pours Out Her Heart

Waje and her daughter, Emerald

In an exclusive chat with Genevieve magazine, multi-award winning music star, Aituaje Iruobe, popularly known as Waje, has opened up on her misgivings in life as a single mother, stressing that her daughter, Emerald, will not make the same mistakes she made by being put in the family way outside wedlock.

The mother of one, said, “I’m a mother but I know where to draw the line. It is because I don’t want her to make the same mistakes I made. I feel like some of the decisions I made was because I was raised differently.

“Our parents taught us what they knew as the truth, but what you know as the truth might not be the truth. Another thing is that parents do not tell their children why certain behaviours should be avoided. “For example, parents say, “don’t drink because I said so” not, “don’t drink because it is bad for your health”; but I’m learning that for the children of this age, you have to tell them all the reasons why they should not do certain things.

“While my daughter was growing up, I took up the reward method; you do good, you get good. There was a consequence for every action,” she said.

Waje and her daughter Waje, whose daughter recently turned 17 continued, “There were many times I really prayed that The One will quicken his steps to make things easier. It did get too much when it is time to pay rent, school fees, and other miscellaneous expenses.

“I had my own share of pillow cries and made sure she doesn’t see it. Sometimes she could come asking, “Why didn’t you and my Dad stay together?” And, when I first moved to Lagos, I couldn’t afford to have my daughter with me because I didn’t have a house; I was squatting with someone. There was a time I saw her like twice a year.

“There were times she cried, mummy I want to come and live with you, but I couldn’t afford it till 2011. Yet looking at my daughter, I will be honest that she is a blessing. “And the blessing outweighs the challenges. I have learnt to be patient, more accommodating and to pay attention to details as a mom.

I have also learnt to map out my priorities, because there are some things I simply cannot do as a mom." The sensational singer noted that her baby-daddy wasn’t ready at the time she took in.

According to her, “I was young. He was young. Our relationship now is very cordial. We respect each other. He has not always been a part of my daughter’s life until recently. “He met her last year.

When she was quite young he showed interest but my fear was that he won’t be consistent. I didn’t want a situation where he would come in this year and leave the next. So I had to wait till I was sure that he would be there,” she added.

We reported it here earlier this week that former President Goodluck Jonathan arrived the country on the eve of President Muhammadu Buhari’s scheduled visit to Ogoni in Rivers State, and made way to his Otuoke hometown in Bayelsa as he received a hero's welcome by friends and well-wishers at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State.

On Thursday night, the former president paid a visit to President Buhari's residence at Aso Rock villa as the two presidents met behind closed-door for an hour in what was reported to be a meeting about pressing national issues especially the renewed militancy in the Niger Delta.

My Ex-Husband Has Refused To Accept Our Child – Actress Alex Okoroji

Beautiful actress Alex Okoroji made headlines when she married Ghanaian hunk actor, Omar Captan, some years back. But unfortunately, the marriage collapsed almost soon after they got married.

The child of their short union clocked six years recently and while thanking her friends and fans who wished her son a happy birthday, in a broadcast message via Whatsapp, Alex wrote:
“Ray (her son) shares the same birthday with his father... his step sisters called, his father’s ex-wife called but his father didn’t send a single birthday message for the sixth time in six years...”

And when Saturday Beats asked what caused the estranged relationship between her ex and child, Alex said the actor was in the best position to answer.

“If you get an answer from him, please let me know. I’m also curious to know why.... How can anyone not acknowledge the existence of his first son who is his splitting image, a child he was present at his birth, a child born into his arms, on his own birthday – a gift he had requested from God many times, with his own mouth in front of many? He even knew the child was there before I realised it. He knew the child was a boy before I did a scan,” she said.

Alex said she has a cordial relationship with her ex’s family.

“I only feel sad for him mostly because one doesn’t trade his/her right as a parent because the relationship with the former partner broke down. It’s his loss really. I’m having a great time experiencing the love and affection of this beautiful amazing child who knows how much I love him and will do anything for him. My son doesn’t lack anything. He has a grandfather (Tony Okoroji) who adores him and a family who loves him and will always be a part of his life. I’m grateful to God for that.

“I have a civil relationship with his family. I have nothing against them. I can’t say they have done anything in particular to hurt me personally. We all have to remember that blood is thicker than water. Sometimes, silence is consent. I have translated that to mean that they approve of Captan’s action. And honestly, my focus right now is on much more important things,” she said.

While saying she is open to a fresh relationship if the right person comes along, Alex said she will never make up with the actor.

“I’m done! Ex is ex please. Ex is for a reason. My focus is on the future, not my past. I am open to love, the right kind. I’m not available for circus..."

Nigerian Soldiers Kill Boko Haram's Most Dangerous Butcher and 18 Others...See Details

The Nigerian Army

Nigerian soldiers currently prosecuting the counterinsurgency operations in the country’s Northeast on Thursday, announced the killing of 19 Boko Haram fighters.

According to a statement by the spokesperson for the army, Sani Usman, among those killed was a notorious Ameer (leader), Abubakar Gana, in whose hands hundreds were reported to have been slaughtered.

Those who understand Boko Haram’s internal workings say it is customary in Boko Haram circle that a member only achieves Ameership position after killing at least 50 persons and or after personally slaughtering his parents or a member of his family.

Mr. Gana is said to have achieved that rank many years ago, before assuming his position as chief of the sect’s killer squad. It was in line with his attribute as a fearless and “merciless” killer that he led a group of fighters, despite the continuing defeat his group suffered in the hands of Nigerian troops, to stage an ambush on advancing troops of the Nigeria Army on Friday, near Chukungudu village of Borno State, officials said.

Mr. Usman, a colonel, said, “A carefully planned and deliberate attack comprising troops of 22 Brigade Garrison, and 153 Task Force Battalion of 7 Division and 8 Task Force Division as well as Nigeria Air Force Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) and some Civilian JTF, was carried out on Boko Haram terrorists stronghold and camp at Chukungudu on Friday 3rd May 2016.

“While advancing to the location, the troops encountered Boko Haram terrorists ambush positions at Muskari, Gilam and Hausari before descending on their main objective at Chukungudu. “During the encounter at the camp, the troops killed 19 Boko Haram Terrorists including their notorious leader in the area called Ameer Abubakar Gana. They also discovered and destroyed the terrorists Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) making factory, discovered and successfully detonated 4 primed IEDs.

"The troops also recovered 2 Anti-Aircraft Guns, 1 AK-47 Rifle, a Pistol, 1 Rocket Propelled Gun (RPG) Bomb, 1 AK-47 Magazine, 267 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) metal links ammunition and 23 rounds of 12.7mm belt ammunition.

Other recovered items include a Canter truck, 1 Gun truck, 1 Land Rover vehicle and a Toyota Hilux vehicle. “Unfortunately, 2 soldiers suffered gun shot wounds as a result of enemy action.

However, it is gratifying to state that both of them are very stable and responding to treatment at the Field Ambulance”. Sources from within the Civillian-JTF, who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, said the death of Ameer Gana was a major setback to the deadly sect “because he was among the few lieutenants that have direct communication link with the group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau.”

The Iroko Has Fallen! World Stands Still with Shock as Boxing Legend, Muhammad Ali Dies at Age 74

Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali, the former world heavyweight champion whose record-setting boxing career, unprecedented flair for showmanship, and controversial stands made him one of the best-known figures of the 20th century, died on Friday aged 74.

Ali's death was confirmed in a statement issued by family spokesman Bob Gunnell late Friday evening, a day after he was admitted to a Phoenix-area hospital with a respiratory ailment. The cause of death or the name of the hospital where he died were not immediately disclosed.

Ali had long suffered from Parkinson's syndrome, which impaired his speech and made the once-graceful athlete almost a prisoner in his own body. Even so, Ali's youthful proclamation of himself as "the greatest" rang true until the end for the millions of people worldwide who admired him for his courage both inside and outside the ring.

"A part of me slipped away, the greatest piece," George Foreman, a former heavyweight boxer and one of Ali's most formidable opponents in the ring, said on Twitter after the news of Ali's death.

Roy Jones Jr., a former champion boxer who grew up during Ali's prime, also said in a Tweet: "My heart is deeply saddened yet both appreciative and relieved that the greatest is now resting in the greatest place."

Few could argue with his athletic prowess at his peak in the 1960s. With his dancing feet and quick fists, he could - as he put it - float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.

He was the first person to win the heavyweight championship three times. But Ali became much more than a colorful and interesting athlete. He spoke boldly against racism in the '60s, as well as the Vietnam War.

During and after his championship reign, Ali met scores of world leaders and for a time he was considered the most recognizable person on earth, known even in remote villages far from the United States.

Ali's diagnosis of Parkinson's came about three years after he retired from boxing in 1981. His influence extended far beyond boxing. He became the unofficial spokesman for millions of blacks and oppressed people around the world because of his refusal to compromise his opinions and stand up to white authorities.

In a realm where athletes often battle inarticulateness as well as their opponents, Ali was known as the Louisville Lip and loved to talk, especially about himself.

"Humble people, I've found, don't get very far," he once told a reporter.

His taunts could be brutal.

"Joe Frazier is so ugly that when he cries, the tears turn around and go down the back of his head," he once said. He also dubbed Frazier a 'gorilla' but later apologized and said it was all to promote the fight.

Once asked about his preferred legacy, Ali said: "I would like to be remembered as a man who won the heavyweight title three times, who was humorous and who treated everyone right. As a man who never looked down on those who looked up to him ... who stood up for his beliefs ... who tried to unite all humankind through faith and love. "And if all that's too much, then I guess I'd settle for being remembered only as a great boxer who became a leader and a champion of his people. And I wouldn't even mind if folks forgot how pretty I was."

Ali was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on Jan. 17, 1942, as Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., a name shared with a 19th century slavery abolitionist. He changed his name after his conversion to Islam.

Ali is survived by his wife, the former Lonnie Williams, who knew him when she was a child in Louisville, along with his nine children.

I Buy Gifts For Orphanages, Donate To Church After Robbery – Notorious Armed Robber

A member of a notorious gang operating across the south-south and south-east of the country, Gogo Daniel Ume (aka Full Payment), has confessed to the police about how he usually donated food items and gifts to his church after every successful operation.

Gogo is one of the three suspects nabbed by the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team in Rivers and Bayelsa states, following weeks of efforts to track down the criminals.

When the suspects were apprehended, they were found with three AK47 rifles, one automatic rifle, 12 magazines, 310 rounds of live ammunitions and dynamite.

Soon after their arrest, the suspects, Gogo Ume, Ikadoi Michael Isere (aka White Witch) and Ifeanyi Kalu admitted to a crime spree that included numerous kidnappings and bank heists in the last three years.

According to the IRT, while being interrogated, the suspects admitted that they carried out the two bullion van robberies which took place between 2014 and 2015 at a Diamond Bank branch at Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt, where they stole N360m.

The suspects also admitted to carrying out the 2014 bullion van robbery at Igrita Roundabout, Airport Road, Port-Harcourt; robbery of a UBA branch on Azikiwe Road in Port-Harcourt in the same year and a 2015 bullion van robbery at another branch of the bank at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port-Harcourt, where they made away with N80m and killed a student in the process.

The suspects told the police that they were responsible for a robbery attack on a Fidelity Bank branch at GRA, Port-Harcourt. In all these operations, several policemen were said to have been gunned down.

According to the statement made to the police during a foiled kidnapping attempt by the gang few months ago, they set ablaze a police patrol van along Psychiatric Hospital Road, Rumuigbo, Port-Harcourt.

But those were said to have taken place in Rivers State alone.

The gang reportedly extended their killing spree to neighbouring states like Enugu, where they took part in the robbery of a UBA branch in Owerri, Imo State in April 2014 and stole N5m.

They also admitted to attacking a First Bank branch in Enugu where one of their gang members identified as Akio was killed in June of the same year. The gang were said to have abandoned his body and fled.

However, amidst the robbery spree, the gang also undertook series of kidnappings and car-jacking which fetched them millions of naira.

Punch learnt that when the suspects were arrested, a Toyota Highlander SUV, Toyota Venza and a Ford Edge SUV, were recovered from them.

It was also learnt that in January 2014, the gang kidnapped a worker of an oil company, Agip, on whom a ransom of N16m was paid.

The police alleged that between 2013 and 2016, the gang killed at least 20 policemen in their operations.

Police are on the trail of other members of the gang as investigation continues.

Beatie with first wife, Nancy and his 3 children
After realizing that his then-wife Nancy, a bodybuilder, was unable to have children, Beatie became pregnant through artificial insemination and he stopped his daily hormone treatments during the fertility process. He then gave birth to three children back to back and stopped, 2 boys and a girl.

Beatie and his wife Nancy, eventually went through a“bitter” divorce after claims of domestic violence. Beatie claimed Nancy always assaulted him and that he couldn't do it anymore. The divorce then dragged on for nearly three years and was finally settled in 2015 after Beatie agreed to give Nancy his prized shark tooth collection.

During the messy divorce, Beatie became romantically involved with his kids’ preschool teacher, Amber Nichols. After monhts of dating, they decided to get married.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Beatie claimed that he’d always wanted a big, white wedding. He said: “I was so nervous, excited and frightened all at the same time.” “When Amber walked down the aisle, my breath was just taken away. I saw the boys and Susan, so excited as a flower girl, and I just started crying and I couldn’t stop. It was perfect – even better than I ever imagined.”

Nichols, who was reportedly fired from her preschool position after her relationship to Beatie surfaced in the press, is now a practicing esthetician.
