1 Million Protesters Stage Peaceful Rallies to Demand President’s Resignation (Photo)

Organisers estimated that the number of participants in the Saturday rally, the third since the scandal came into focus last month, topped one million in Seoul alone, according to local media reports.

Last Saturday, some 200,000 people turned out in the capital city. It would be the country’s largest mass rally at least since June 1987 when about one million demonstrators gathered to ouster the military dictatorship.

In 2008, some 700,000 protested against then-President Lee Myung-bak who resumed U.S. beef imports during the outbreak of mad cow disease. Police said around 260,000 people turned out in Seoul, beating its earlier expectation of up to 170,000.

Police estimates are usually far lower than figures released by organisers as it does not include people coming back home after early participation. Ranging from couples with their babies and children to students in school uniforms and grey-haired old men, ordinary South Koreans crowded the Seoul streets as seen in the two previous protests.

Despite the huge number, demonstrators stayed calm and rallied peacefully. People showed restraint and instead, poured out anger by shouting for the president’s resignation and holding up posters and candles.

The embattled president made public apologies twice and accepted a coalition cabinet formed by the parliament, but people get infuriated further on growing views that Park has yet to sincerely confess to her sins.

As Donald Trump’s presidential win in the U.S. caused security uncertainties on the Korean Peninsula, people call for Park’s rapid resignation as she already lost credibility and authority in the diplomatic stage.

At least 100,000 people left for Seoul from across the country to attend the Seoul protest, including some 1,000 residents in the southern resort island of Jeju coming here by flight. Tickets for train and express bus bound for the capital city sold out early, with chartered buses being hardly to find on unusually strong demand.

Thousands of protesters staged separate rallies in major cities nationwide. Even South Koreans living in about 30 cities of 10 foreign countries marched to demand the scandal-plagued president’s resignation.

A private association to demand Park’s resignation, which is composed of about 1,500 civic groups, held an evening event in the Gwanghwamun Square, just 1 km away from the presidential Blue House where the presidential office and residence are located.

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, another organizer and one of the country’s two umbrella labour union groups, held an occasion in a Seoul Plaza in front of the city hall, close to the Gwanghwamun square.

Around 25,000 police officers were allegedly deployed to prevent any violence or any march to the presidential office, but no big scuffle has been reported yet. This Saturday’s rally is expected to become a watershed to determine the fates of President Park and her ruling Saenuri Party.

The Blue House has not announced any official response to the country’s biggest rally in about 30 years, and only a part of Saenuri members individually joined the protest. All leaderships of the three major opposition parties actively participated in the protest, demanding Park immediately step down.

The minor Justice Party proposed a roadmap of Park’s resignation first, the parliamentary forming of an interim cabinet and early presidential election. President Park’s approval rating stayed at five per cent for two weeks in a row, the lowest for any South Korean president, according to a Gallup Korea poll released on Friday.

Another pollster survey showed on Friday that more than 60 per cent of respondents said Park should step down or be impeached.

How It All Started: Nigerian man who proposed to his white girlfriend on top Olumo Rock narrates their beautiful love story

Oluwamuyiwa Egunjobi and his Rexburg native fiancee Shila Tietjen became internet sensation after their proposal photos went viral. The couple will be married in Salt Lake City, Utah and will have a reception in Rexburg on Dec. 17.

25-year-old Egunjobi grew up in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2001 and served a mission in Nigeria. After his mission he came to Brigham Young University–Idaho, where he is studying accounting.

Tietjen is from Rexburg and was born in Pocatello. She served a mission for the LDS church in San Jose, California and served as a performing missionary in Nauvoo, Illinois.

In an interview with Idaho State Journal, the 23-year-old, who is studying Spanish education at BYU-Idaho said she met Egunjobi through a mutual friend, who invited him to a party.

"I met Olu in my car," Tietjen said. She kept her distance at first because she had just gotten out of a relationship. She later sent him a text and told him she didn’t want to date him, but he asked her if they could talk about their relationship in person. She put it off until one day she couldn’t avoid it anymore, and the two sat down and talked.

"Everything he said was answers to my prayers," she said.

She was leaving for vacation for a couple of weeks, and the two decided to see where they were after that. They kept taking, and when she got back they spent time together and went dancing. When Egunjobi said he needed to do some homework, Tietjen invited him to her house so they could spend more time together.

"By the end of the night we were dating," she said. "That day was perfect." It was February when they started dating. They had a lot of fun together during the coming months. They eventually talked about marriage and decided it would be a good idea for Tietjen to visit Egunjobi’s family in Nigeria.

She took the trip to Nigeria in September. They visited Olumo Rock, a rock people come from all over the world to see because of its rich history. The people used it as a hiding place during a war.

"It’s like an icon for the city," Egunjobi said. It was there that Egunjobi asked Tietjen to marry him, and it was that night the couple realized they had gone viral.

Egunjobi thinks all the attention was partly because of where and how he proposed, and also the fact that he proposed to a white woman.

"It’s not something that happens every day," he said.

He said when people in Nigeria do propose it is not usually public. Tietjen said she had gone to bed and couldn’t sleep when she received a text from Egunjobi. The text showed pictures of them on a website.

"I was like, ‘What?’" she said. She ran out and asked what was going on and was quite surprised at first, but she said after that it was fun to see herself and her fiancé being so widely recognized. She said it made them feel special.

They were recognized by multiple people in the area, and a security guard even asked if he could take a photo with them. Their photos were spreading all over social media, in newspapers and on blogs. Although most of the people in the United States who hear about their relationship react positively, others react with concern or confusion.

"I feel like in general most people are like, ‘Oh, wow, that’s pretty cool,’” Tietjen said. She pointed out that the Rexburg community isn’t very diverse, and it isn’t common to see biracial marriages in the community. But the couple doesn’t blame people for the way they grew up.

Some have asked Tietjen if her parents were OK with the engagement, and some were concerned about the clashing of the couple’s cultures. Some have even said hurtful things out of ignorance or spite, but Tietjen said the opposition has made them stronger.

"Everyone comes from a different culture," she said. We have a lot of differences, but we have a lot of commonalities too. ... Olu’s a person, and I’m a person."

Egunjobi said he, too, has definitely seen opposition to his decision to marry a white woman. However, he says while he cares what others think to a certain extent, if he doesn’t agree with someone’s opinion or thinks it doesn’t make sense, he doesn’t let it get him down. There are cultural differences and challenges, but the two make the most of them and do their best to communicate.

Tietjen said they both have good communication skills, and this has helped them work through any differences. She is learning to make African food and learning some of Yoruba, one of the languages spoken in Nigeria.

Seeing other examples of interracial relationships has helped Tietjen’s family become more comfortable with her decision. She said a couple in her church ward is made up of one person from the U.S. and one from Nigeria.

Tietjen’s mother talked to the couple and asked how they overcame their cultural challenges. They told her the culture differences are a small portion of their relationship, and most of their issues are just because they are two different people.

"In the end it’s not going to matter where we’re from,” Egunjobi said. “If the love is there the color shouldn’t be a barrier." He said people shouldn’t be afraid of cultural differences. The differences do pop up, he said, but communication and meeting in the middle really helps.

He said if there is someone out there who likes someone of a different race, he or she shouldn’t let the differences get in the way.

Tietjen said she not only loves Egunjobi despite the differences, but she loves him for the things that make him different and special.

"I’m so in love with the guy of my dreams, and he just happens to be from Africa, and that’s why he’s the guy of my dreams," she said.

She said they are grateful to live in a time in which they are able to be together, as interracial marriage hasn’t always been legal in the United States. Egunjobi said the first thing people often think of is whether one will have to live away from their family, but he said if a couple gets serious and they are from different countries, they can figure that part out. They can travel back and forth and make a plan.

He added that Africa is a very safe place, and Tietjen said it is a fun place to be. One thing she liked about Africa was that the people know their heritage so well.

'These people know exactly where they came from,” she said. “It’s cool to be rooted."

The couple said for students and community members who want to learn about other cultures, there are groups on campus that celebrate different cultures. They said it is a good way to expose oneself to something different.

Egunjobi feels that differences make things stronger and better, like a Yin Yang or the combination of black and white on a piece of art. He said differences are supposed to make people stronger, not tear them apart.

"In the end we all have blood running in our veins, and it’s all red," he said.

How I Used My Hand to Destroyed My Marriage - Woman Tells Touching Story for Others to Learn

*Photo used for illustrative purpose*

A woman who ruined her marriage with her oppressive attitude towards her husband has come out to advice other women outside to learn from her experience.

I am writing to you in order to make someone understand that its good to appreciate our partners despite their flaws. I am 32 years old. Me and my ex-hubby dated for six years, I started dating him whilst I was in grade 12, I was 19 years old. We were best of friends, I waited until he completed college and started work, my family and his family then met, we got married and had a son. (7 years old now).

My husband was short tempered at times, but our problems started when I wanted to make him feel he can’t control me. Every time we argue, I would pack my bags, go to my family and explain. My sisters would phone my husband and shout at him. If he is controlling me I would always dare him that if you wish to divorce me- I never wanted to divorce, I just had pride and I never wanted to look a lose in his eyes.

One day I pushed him so had that for the first time he beat me and lock me out side, I went to my family, my family took him to police, every time I looked like I am being abused! But to be honest, I used to abuse my husband emotionally.

He was arrested and detained. I was asked by his family to withdraw the case, I felt that what I was doing is wrong. My husband was never a violent man, he did what he did because I pushed him to the wall. Of which he openly knelt down and apologised. I withdrew the charge, and we reconciled.

After three months, I packed my bags after a small issue, and he remained alone. After two days I received a call that he is in the hospital, my family told me that I shouldn’t go there because it will look like am begging him, and my sisters believed he is faking the illness.

All this time, people felt sorry for me like I was the one being abused. He spent a week in the hospital after he came out, I just received a divorce summon. I wanted to say no to divorce, but because I felt this pride, I wanted him to change his mind and beg me, I called him and say he will get the divorce because I live like am in hell.

When we went to court, I wanted to make him pay, so I told the court that I needed his properties to be shared. To my surprise he openly told the court that whatever he and me acquired together should be given to me, all he wanted was divorce. We got divorced in 2009 July.

Now, this Saturday my husband is getting married again, whilst I am here wasted! My family are gossiping about me, I depend on what my ex gives to my son for survival. I know I wasted my marriage.

I am here telling all wives to be careful how you get advise. Don’t be cheated. Even my young sisters are much more respected than me. Those who encouraged me to divorce are always bad mouthing me. I thought its good to share. There is no benefit in pride.

A deadly kidnapper has revealed how he made several millions of naira from kidnapping wealthy individuals. The man confessed that he bought cars with his earnings and that he was proposing to establish a private business before he was caught.

Joshua Okoh made the confession while being paraded by the Police in Asaba, Delta State.

The suspect who hails from Udu Local Government Area of Delta State said he had two guns that the gang used for operation.

He said, “Kidnapping is like a business to me. Lack of job and bad economy forced me into crime. I chose kidnapping because that is what I can do best. Now I am in trouble; but since I started this business, I’ve never killed anybody. “What me and other gang members did was to just collect the ransom and let the person (victim) go. We did pity them, but we did not have any other option.”

“I have carried out about five successful kidnappings and my share ran into millions of naira. I bought cars with the money and proposed to establish a business before this arrest. “It is not as if we liked the job, but we were forced into crime by rich leaders and brothers who do not help, but would rather exhibit wealth in your presence.

“It will interest you to know that most people who are victims of kidnapping are set up by their own brothers and sisters who they refused to help, just like this one that led to our arrest. It was initiated by a brother of the woman she may have refused to assist.”

Explaining further, he revealed that after each successful operation, the victim would be kept in their hideout located in a bush in Ekrehavwe town, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

Horror! School Children Narrowly Escape Death in Kogi as Huge Tank Crashes During School Hours

The scene of the incident

A school water tank has collapsed in a Kogi primary school.

According to Facebook user, Ottah Gabriel Alhassan, who shared the photos, the overhead tank collapsed in the school just after the students were dismissed for their break. Fortunately no one was injured.

Below is what he wote:

"Ayegba Primary School, Idah overhead tank just collapsed with its full content during school hours. "The after-break bell just rang and children were just leaving the water area. Three other children were still at the tap when the tank base and the pillars succumbed to weight pressure.

"All of us around Ayegba Primary School in Ubomu heard the sound of the fall like one terrorist explosion. I ran to the scene... other people had gathered before me.

"The three children were lucky not to have been under the tank, otherwise, we would have been singing songs of sorrow. But they had their share of proximity dividends as the water that gushed out of the tank with the fall swallowed them a couple of seconds before spreading to the sheets.

"The children had gulped plenty of water, though stable. The school management, in appreciation to God for the safety of the children, swiftly dismissed the children for the day. "This is the second time the tank is falling. When it did last year, children were not in school. It is a typical example of bad work that characterises Nigeria contract execution.

"Authorities concerned should dig into who did the work, the quality of materials used and the durability guarantee of such materials.

"Thank God for the lives of the children."
