Anambra PDP suspends Metuh over allegations of embezzlement of party funds


The Anambra state chapter of PDP has suspended the national Publicity secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh over allegations of party funds. Buhari gives service chiefs ultimatum to hunt down Boko Haram in 3 months


President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, charged the new service chiefs to synergize with other nation’s security apparatus and hunt down Boko Haram insurgents within the next three months. A Lagos-based lawyer (names withheld) was yesterday caught fondling a nine-year-old girl’s breasts and private part in the premises of Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos. The victim, said to have just arrived the country from England, had accompanied her grandmother, who had a civil case in court and needed a lawyer. At the court, she enquired from a court clerk of a lawyer who could help her handle the case and was referred to the said lawyer. The lawyer allegedly lured the little girl to an alley within the court premises and fondled her private part. The cry of the little girl attracted the grandmother, who asked her what the matter was and she started pointing to the lawyer, saying that he fondled her breast and also touched her private part.

NPF Lagos state press releases: Helicopter crashes into Lagos Lagoon

Following a distress call received from Local Divers at about 3:10 pm today, 12th August, 2015, that a Helicopter plunged into the Lagos Lagoon at Oworonshoki, a team of Policemen and other emergency management agencies swiftly moved to the scene. During the rescue operation, six persons on board the helicopter were rescued alive and taken to the hospital for medical attention and are responding to treatment, while four corpses were recovered.
Initial enquiry revealed that the helicopter belongs to Bristow Helicopters and that twelve(12) persons were said to be on board the ill-fated helicopter.

Senators reject pay cut recommendation by panel


The Senate on Wednesday suspended consideration of the report of its Finance committee following disagreements among members over the pay cut recommended by the panel.
 
It was gathered that during a 2 hour deliberation behind closed doors the senators resolved to reject the reduction of salaries and allowances as recommended by the Senator James Manager’s committee.
The senators said it was not possible to accept pay cut with other beneficiaries of the N120bn National Assembly annual budget not doing same. He said his colleagues also resolved to reject the report because the recommendations were not practicable.

Mum bursts into a chapel after 'slashing her 3-month-old baby’s throat


Police say they have arrested a woman suspected of killing her 3-month-old baby by slashing his throat in a cemetery chapel in a small central Spanish town.
A Civil Guard spokesman said the woman, a 37-year-old Spaniard, was arrested early Wednesday in the cemetery of Villa de Don Fadrique, located just southeast of Madrid.
According to reports, the woman had recently spent time in a psychiatric hospital and picked up her son that day from a relative's house.

FIFA: NFF may not endorse Kalu to contest for Presidency


It was obvious last night that the Nigeria Football Federation may not endorse the candidature of former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu for FIFA Presidency. Former Wimbledon star John Fashanu among many others have been campaigning for Kalu to contest the election to replace Sepp Blatter

However, Kalu has to be endorsed first by the Nigeria Football Federation before he can contest for the position. The federation also has to consider section one of article 13 of the FIFA statutes of the section which specifies conditions a candidate running for the office of FIFA President must meet.

Bodycam footage shows mother pleading with cops hours before she died



A mother found dead in her jail cell last month can be seen in newly released bodycam footage telling officers she feared for her life before being locked up.
Ralkina Jones, 37, was found dead in Cleveland Heights Jail on July 26 shortly after being arrested for allegedly assaulting her abusive ex-husband.
In footage released today by Cleveland Heights Police, Ms Jones can be seen telling cops 'I don't want to die' 15 hours before she was found unconscious.

WAEC releases results of candidates of indebted states


The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has yielded to pressure to release the results of candidates for the May/June 2015 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), earlier withheld as a result of indebtedness by some states.

This was due to the intervention of the Nigeria Governors Forum and other stakeholders who appealed to the examination body to reconsider its decision in view of the effect the withholding of the results would have on the future of the candidates.

Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Mr. Charles Eguridu, announced the release of the results, on Wednesday, at a joint news conference with the Deputy Director of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum (NGF), Alhaji L.O.T Shitu, after hours of dialogue on the debt owed the council by some states.

He disclosed that the results could be uploaded on the council website within 24 hours of the announcement, saying the decision was based on the wish of the council not to impede the educational progress of any Nigerian child.

Man Remanded In Prison For Abducting And Raping Neighbour’s 14-Year-Old Daughter For 3 Days


An Ikeja Chief Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, remanded 45-year-old Santana Obend to Kirikiri Maximum Prison in Lagos after being charged with rape of a minor. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias ordered the remand of the accused in prison pending the determination of his bail application on Sept. 18, 2015. The accused, a security man who lives at 9, Ajegunle Close, Isheri, a suburb of Lagos, was accused of abducting and raping his neighbour's 14-year-old daughter. He is facing a two-count charge of abduction and rape. The police prosecutor, Sgt. Jimah Isegede, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 7, 2015 at his residence.
