Billionaire Environmentalist, Tom Steyer Launches a $10 million Campaign to Impeach Donald Trump

Democratic mega-donor, Tom Steyer is pumping more than $10 million into TV ads calling for President Donald Trump's impeachment.

Democratic mega-donor and billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer is spending what an aide says is "well over $10 million" on a national TV ad campaign Friday calling for President Donald Trump's impeachment.

The campaign is a bid by Steyer - who has not ruled out a run for office himself - to "demand that elected officials take a stand" on an issue Democratic leaders have so far largely avoided. "A Republican Congress once impeached a president for far less.

And today, people in Congress and his own administration know that this President is a clear and present danger who is mentally unstable and armed with nuclear weapons," Steyer says in the ad, which largely features him speaking directly to the camera.

The ads are running on broadcast stations in New York and California and nationally on cable television.

Accompanying the TV ads is what a Steyer aide said is a seven-figure digital ad buy intended to get the minute-long spot a large audience online.

Steyer is paying for the ads himself, and they are not part of his NextGen America political apparatus. Instead, the ads point to a new website - NeedToImpeach.com - which features an open letter where Steyer takes clear aim at California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, citing - without using her name - Feinstein's comment that Trump "can be a good President."

Feinstein has since downplayed the comment.

In the letter, Steyer hits Trump for ending protections for undocumented immigrants brought into the United States as children, for "actively sabotaging" Obamacare, and for "repealing clean air protections and unleashing polluters."

"He has threatened to reduce aid for millions of American citizens in Puerto Rico who are struggling to survive without drinkable water or electricity - a move that would be a total dereliction of his duty. And every day, Americans are left bracing for a Twitter screed that could set off a nuclear war. These actions represent systemic attacks on our nation's future," Steyer writes.

Steyer is openly mulling a run in California's primary against Feinstein next year. State Senate Democratic leader Kevin de León has already entered that race, challenging Feinstein from the left. Steyer has also considered running for California governor in 2018 or president in 2020.

Most Democrats have not yet publicly broached the subject of impeachment - though Reps. Al Green of Texas and Brad Sherman of California have each introduced articles of impeachment in the House, and Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee plans to do so.

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon warned Trump about the 25th Amendment, which allows a majority of the Cabinet to vote to remove a sitting president, Vanity Fair recently reported.

SPORTS: Shock As Huddersfield Town Beat Manchester United 2-1

Huddersfield Town ended Manchester United’s unbeaten start to the season as Jose Mourinho’s side fell five points behind league leaders Manchester City at the John Smith’s Stadium.

United had only conceded twice in eight league games this season, but they doubled that tally in five first-half minutes following two sloppy mistakes that were punished by the home team.

Juan Mata gave the ball away to Aaron Mooy in midfield and after he fed Tom Ince, whose shot was saved by David De Gea, the Australian was first to the rebound to sweep home from 10 yards as the United defence watched on.

Then Swedish defender Victor Lindelof – on as a substitute for the injured Phil Jones and making just his second Premier League appearance – misjudged a goal kick by Jonas Lossl and Laurent Depoitre raced onto the loose ball to round De Gea and double the Terriers’ lead on 33 minutes.

Mourinho made a double substitution at half-time, bringing on Marcus Rashford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and the former gave United hope with 12 minutes remaining, nodding in a terrific cross by the otherwise quiet Romelu Lukaku.

But despite a nervy finale and with United enjoying almost 80% of possession, the Terriers clung on to record their first league win against United since 1952 and end a run of six league games without a victory.

Premier League Result: Manchester City 3-0 Burnley

Sergio Aguero equalled Manchester City’s all-time goalscoring record as his side beat Burnley to go five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Aguero’s first-half goal, from a controversial penalty, was his 177th for the club and brought him level with Eric Brook’s record, as well as sending City on their way to an 11th straight win, equalling a club record. But they had to work hard to see off a resolute Clarets side, who were unhappy with the decision that led to them going behind.

A pack of Burnley players protested when Roger East pointed to the spot after visiting keeper Nick Pope tangled with Bernardo Silva, but replays showed Pope’s knee came down on Silva’s foot as he slid in.

Aguero stepped up to calmly slot home, but Burnley, who arrived at the Etihad on the back of a six-game unbeaten run, did not lie down and their determined approach limited further City chances.

Sean Dyche’s side had few sights of goal themselves, but it took two goals in the space of two second-half minutes from Nicolas Otamendi and Leroy Sane for the home side to make sure of the points. Otamendi rose highest from Sane’s corner to power a header into the corner, despite the presence of Steven Defour on the post.

Sane galloped on to a precise through ball from Kevin de Bruyne to score City’s third goal, their 20th in their past four home Premier League games.

City, two points clear before the game, extended their lead over second-placed Manchester United, who lost 2-1 at Huddersfield Town.

The incident happened at a notorious jungle called ‘Agbole’ off Lafenwa Road in Ejigbo where they used as base for many years.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the residents went wild in jubilation following the killing of the well known dreaded armed robbers and cultists, who had terrorised the residents for several years.

The robbers met their dead end when they attacked some police officers who went there to retrieve a vehicle they snatched and kept there.

It was gathered that when the local police from Ejigbo Division went to the place, the men shot and chased the police away. Unknown to them the officers who reinforced and went for the operation were men from the State Anti Robbery Squad, SARS led by CSP Ahmed Sanusi.

It was gathered that after the gang had over powered the local police at the division, the DPO sought the assistance of the Commissioner of Police who deployed the SARS team to retrieve the vehicle.

P.M.EXPRESS scooped that when the SARS operatives got to Agbole, the robbers attacked and shot at the officers but they were so unlucky that the officers who went for the operation were more superior to them. Four of the suspects were gunned down and they died at the spot and the rest fled.

The identity of the victims were not disclosed but the residents knew the suspects and their activities at Coker and NNPC area in Ejigbo. The residents confirmed the incident. They said the robbers were killed, the police also retrieved their corpses and deposited at the morgue.

They were peaceful unlike in the past when there was always violence due to the activities of the bandits. The residents attributed it to the recent invasion by SARS and commended the police for bringing sanity to the area.

When our correspondent visited the Ejigbo Police Division, the new DPO was not around to comment on the matter. However, sources at the station confirmed the incident but did not give details of what happened because the officers came from the State Command.

When the Police PPRO was contacted for comments, his phone was switched off.

17-years After: Ex-Biafran Police Officers Go Wild in Enugu as They Receive Their Pension Alert from FG

Ojukwu and his Biafra army

Ex-Biafra police officers from the South-East and South-South states yesterday, went wild in joy as they started receiving alerts for their pensions 17 years after former President Olusegun Obasanjo granted them amnesty, Daily Sun reports.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Wednesday approved the payment of pensions to the dismissed Biafra police officers who fought in the 30-month Nigeria-Biafra civil war which ended in 1970.

Over 400 of the officers who gathered at the Ingrace Event Centre, Rangers Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu, venue of the flag off of the pension payments of retired war-affected police officers danced in joy as the President of the Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria, Mr Fidelis Oyakhilome pressed the button of the instant transfer machine and they started receiving alerts of the payment in their various bank accounts.

It was gathered that some of the retired officers actually started getting alerts for the payment of the pension on Thursday night with some of them getting close to half a million naira. In her speech on the occasion, the Executive Secretary of Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Mrs Sharon Ikeazor, said that she was highly elated to commence the payment of pension benefits to the retired war-affected police officers.

According to her, “162 officers who have never been on the payroll and 57 next of kin who have also not been paid their death benefits will be paid today,” while 155 others who are on the payroll, but were being short-paid would be paid in the next batch as soon as their pension benefit computation was concluded.

“You would all recall that Nigeria witnessed an ugly civil war between July, 1967 and January, 1970 and as a result of that unfortunate period, some members of the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police and the paramilitary officers who joined the secessionist were dismissed from service.

“After many years in the limbo, they were pardoned and honourably retired from the Nigeria Police Force through a presidential amnesty granted on 29th May, 2000 by the administration of the then President Olusegun Obasanjo,” she recalled.

Mrs Ikeazor disclosed that to implement the Federal Government’s decision on the pardoned officers, a full blown verification of the pardoned officers was carried out by the defunct Police Pension Office; recently by PTAD and the Police Service Commission.

“The verification exercise conducted in late 2014 and early 2015 resulted in identifying about 460 of the police officers who were caught up in the civil war. “Despite the presidential pardon and the verification of these officers, many of them remained unpaid for years,” she said, adding that President Buhari, however, this week graciously gave approval for the payment of the pension entitlements to the affected officers and their next of kin.

“Today marks another milestone in reintegrating the hitherto neglected officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force who have suffered untold hardship over the years catering for their needs and that of their dependents.

“This represents another decision by the current Federal Government to bring closure to the painful legacies of the civil war, and indeed a clear demonstration that President Muhammadu Buhari is indeed a father to all Nigerians and that his administration’s reforms under PTAD will ensure that Nigerians who spent the productive years of their lives serving their nation will not experience difficulties in getting their pensions,” she said.

She thanked the president for his magnanimity in approving the payment of the pension without further delay.

Also speaking, the President of Association of Retired War-Affected Police Officers from South-East and South-South states, Mr Matthew Udeh, thanked God for keeping the members of his association alive to see the day.

Udeh also thanked President Buhari for approving the recommendations presented to him by Mrs Ikeazor, as well as authorizing her to pay full retirement benefits to the war-affected police officers in compliance with the letters and spirit of the presidential amnesty granted to them by President Obasanjo.

“We commend President Buhari for approving the allocation of funds to the executive secretary for this payment. “Our last port of call is on the Executive Secretary, Sharon Ikeazor who expeditiously packaged our case, presented it to President Buhari, and followed it up until President Buhari gave his assent and blessing, within two months of her assumption of office,” Udeh said.

Also retired police DIG and now President of the Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria, Mr Fidelis Oyakhilome, thanked President Buhari for making it possible for the retired Biafra police officers to get their pension many years after they have been granted amnesty.

He also thanked Mrs Ikeazor for standing in for the officers. The pensioners ostensibly happy over what Mrs Ikeazor did for them bestowed on her a special merit award just as they also gave her the title name of Odi Uko na Mba, meaning one that is rare in a community.

Premier League Result: Michy Batshuayi Scores Twice As Chelsea Come From Behind To Beat Watford 4-2

Chelsea scored two late goals as they came from behind to claim a dramatic victory against Watford at Stamford Bridge and end a three-game winless run.

Cesar Azpilicueta headed the Blues 3-2 in front in the 87th minute before Michy Batshuayi sealed the victory in stoppage time despite an unconvincing performance from the champions.

Batshuayi had headed in an equaliser for the champions midway through the second half after the home side fell behind to two Watford goals either side of half-time to suggest the possibility of a third consecutive Premier League defeat.

Pedro had put the Blues ahead in the 12th minute with a sensational 25-yard strike that curled away from Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes and in off the right-hand post. But the Blues were shaky defensively throughout and Marco Silva’s Hornets scored twice through Abdoulaye Doucoure and Roberto Pereyra to put them on course for a famous victory.

It could have been worse for Antonio Conte’s side as Brazilian Richarlison missed two glorious chances for Watford either side of Pereyra’s goal.

But Batshuayi’s equaliser and the third for Azpilicueta saw Conte throw himself into the home crowd as his side completed a turnaround that the Belgium striker then capped deep into injury time.

Victory takes Chelsea above Watford into third in the table, six points behind leaders Manchester City.
