Lucas Perez Ready to Leave Arsenal

Lucas Perez

Lucas Perez is prepared to leave Arsenal this summer in order to fulfil his dream of playing for Spain in the 2018 World Cup, Goal understands.

The Spanish striker has found game time difficult to come by this season despite impressing in the handful of opportunities he’s been given, including a Champions League group stage match at Basel in December where the 28-year-old scored a hat-trick.

He announced himself on English soil back in September when scoring two goals in an EFL Cup tie against Nottingham Forest and the summer signing from Deportivo La Coruna has made an impact in most of the 17 appearances he's played in this season.

Perez, who has scored a goal every 133 minutes this campaign having made just eight starts, has set his sights on a place in the Spain national team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and believes he will be forced to leave the Gunners in order to get regular football elsewhere.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger met with Perez for talks over his lack of playing time earlier in the season, when the player told the Frenchman he was not happy with his lack of opportunities in the team.

Perez understands competition for places should be expected but remains confused as to why he hasn't been rewarded with a run in the team despite impressive cameo appearances throughout the campaign.

The £17.5million arrival for Deportivo is able to play across the frontline but has found himself behind Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck in the pecking order at Emirates Stadium.

Perez missed Wednesday's Champions League last-16 first leg defeat to Bayern Munich with a minor hamstring injury and is likely to be involved in the upcoming FA Cup clash against Sutton United if he recovers in time.

Wenger Finally Ready to Walk Away from Arsenal After 21 Years Following Munich Humiliation... See Details

Arsene Wenger is finally prepared to bring the curtain down on his 21-year reign as Arsenal manager.

Majority shareholder, Stan Kroenke remains staunchly behind the underfire manager and would prefer Wenger to sign a new, two-year contract at the end of the season. But behind the scenes at the Emirates, there is a growing belief that Wenger will leave.

Wednesday night's embarrassing 5-1 loss to Bayern Munich is seen as a watershed moment in Wenger's tenure.

Sportsmail has learned the loss sparked a heated dressing-room inquest led by senior players in Munich. Midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was also seen berating his team-mates' apparent lack of effort on the pitch during the mauling.

Wenger is well aware of the divisions in the club's fanbase, with a growing number of supporters convinced he should walk away.

There is virtually no possibility of Wenger quitting before the season ends. He is determined to stick to his vow of never breaking a contract. But with his existing deal due to expire at the end of the season, Wenger knows signing a new deal particularly after another season without a trophy, would only intensify the ill-feeling from supporters who once idolised him.

Arsenal could still win the FA Cup, with a place in the quarter-finals likely as they face non-League Sutton United in the last 16 on Monday night. Wembley glory and a top-four finish could yet convince Wenger who will be allowed to decide his fate to sign on.

But sources claim Wenger's mood has become subdued as his side's title hopes fade. The club have started the process of identifying replacements for Wenger, who said on Wednesday night that he would decide his future in 'March or April'.

Sportsmail understands Arsenal's decision-makers led by chief executive, Ivan Gazidis want a manager in Wenger's mould if he does leave. Atletico Madrid boss, Diego Simeone would represent a high-profile appointment, but his fiery temperament has led to reservations among the Arsenal board.

Certain figures at the Emirates believe Tottenham boss, Mauricio Pochettino would represent the perfect fit but, given his allegiance to Arsenal's arch-rivals, the chances of such a move seem non-existent.

Borussia Dortmund's Thomas Tuchel and Juventus's Max Allegri would fit the profile Arsenal are looking for.

With Wenger, 67, one of the last 'managers' overseeing the entire footballing operation of his club, Arsenal could appoint a technical director when he leaves.

Transfer Deadline Day: Chelsea Star Player Arrives Russia for a New Club as He Says Goodbye (Photo)

For the first time since 2008, the Chelsea FC squad will not have Branislav Ivanovic in it as their hopes of winning the Premier League title will be tested on Tuesday night when the Blues take on Liverpool at Anfield.

The 32-year-old defender who has been rumoured to leave the club for some time, is on his way out of Stamford Bridge.

European clubs, Zenit St Petersburg and West Brom were chasing his signature, while rumours spread that Ivanovic preferred staying in the Premier League than moving back to Russia.

Regardless of whether that’s true, on Tuesday afternoon, Ivanovic was pictured in Russia having landed ahead of his move to Zenit.

While it’s far to say that Ivanovic is no longer the player he was, he’ll go down in the Chelsea annals as a legend.

During his time with the Blues he won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup three times, the League Cup once, the Champions League once and the Europa League once.
