Army Return Corpses of UNIMAID Workers Killed by Boko Haram in Borno State (Photos)

Some of the UNIMAID geologists brought to Maiduguri dead, some still missing

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Maiduguri( UNIMAID) chapter, said five staff of the university were killed by Boko Haram insurgents, after they were purportedly kidnapped.

Dr Danny Mamman, the Chairman of the association told newsmen in Maiduguri that four lecturers were still missing. The insurgents on Tuesday attacked a team of geologists who were on an oil exploration exercise in Lake Chad basin.

The team comprised staff of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), geologists, members of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and military personnel.

However, the Nigerian Army, in a statement on Wednesday, said it had rescued all the victims. Brig Gen Sani Kukasheka Usman, the Director, Army Public Relations, said that nine soldiers and one civilian were killed in the attack.

He added that the soldiers had recovered all the corpses in the rescue operation.

However, a morose Mamman said that five staff of the institution were killed in the attack. He explained that the deceased comprise two geologists, two technologists and a driver.

“We were first elated when we heard that the military rescued the victims. But, to our dismay we discovered that they were all killed. “Our initial hope to see them alive was dashed. The soldiers brought only dead bodies. “Four other staff are still missing and we are seriously concerned about their safety, we do not know their whereabouts,” he said.

The Chairman gave the names of two of the victims as Ibrahim Yusuf and Aji Kolo. Authorities at the university are yet to issue statement on the incident.

Meanwhile, Governor Kashim Shettima has condemned Tuesday’s attack on the geologists and exploration workers from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC) and the University of Maiduguri.

Shettima made the condemnation in a statement issued on Thursday in Maiduguri by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Malam Isa Gusau.

He said that since he first got information concerning the attack on his way to visit President Muhammadu Buhari in London, he hasn’t been his normal self and is yet to recover from the shock of the attack.

“I haven’t been myself normal self since I received information of that attack. What happened in the first instance was a tragic setback in the fight against Boko Haram and in Nigeria’s effort to expand its economic fortunes. “I am deeply pained by this incident especially coming at a time when we were beginning to pick up the pieces of our lives,’ Shettima said.

He added, “Even though the attack should never have happened given the successes recorded by the military and multi-national joint forces since 2015, I nonetheless still deem it necessary to commend the military for re-mobilising and countering the initial gains of the insurgents.

“On behalf of government and people of Borno State, I mourn and salute the soldiers and our sons in the civilian JTF who paid the supreme price by giving their lives in this fight.”

How Osinbajo Pulled Wike & Amaechi Together as He Commissioned the World's Biggest Fertiliser Plant (Photos)

Wike, Osinbajo & Amaechi in Rivers during commissioning of fertilizer plant

ogbudu.com had earlier reported earlier, that the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, was on his way to Port Harcourt, to inaugurate the world’s biggest fertiliser plant built by Indorama Eleme Fertiliser and Chemicals Limited in Eleme LGA of the state.

It was gathered that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, were seen together in public yesterday, with acting President who had visited the state to commission the world class fertilizer plant.

It was about a year ago since Wike and the Minister of Transportation, Amaechi were last seen together. While speaking at the event, the acting president noted that the plant will produce 1.5 million metric tonnes of Urea per annum, adding that the development was a reflection of the success of the Federal Government’s privatisation programme.

Vanguard reported that the acting President also handed a certificate to the management of the fertilizer plant, formally discharging it from the mandatory five year monitoring programme of the Bureau of Public Enterprise, BPE.

He said that the Federal Government will continue to support the growth of the fertilizer plant, noting that it had also taken steps to encourage the needed atmosphere for the growth of private businesses.

“The plant commissioned today (yesterday), I am told, is one of the largest in the world, designed to produce 1.5 million metric tonnes of Urea fertilizer per annum for domestic and foreign markets. I have been informed that Indorama will this year alone supply about 360,000 MT of Urea to Fertilizer blenders, who will in turn produce NPK fertilizer for the benefit of farmers across the country,” he said.

He further charged management of the fertilizer plant not to compromise on best practices even though it had been discharged from the mandatory monitoring programme of BPE.

Chairman of the fertilizer firm, Mr Sri Prakash Lolua, said: “I am pleased to report that with the start-up of this plant, Nigeria is now more than self-sufficient in urea and has now become a net exporter of urea to the world. This enables Nigeria to save valuable foreign exchange on urea imports and receive foreign exchange from urea exports.”

Governor Nyesom Wike, in his remarks, assured that his administration will continue to support the fertilizer plant, assuring that the state was conducive for investment.

Shocker: See the Lagos Girl Who Was Gang-R*ped to Death for Turning Down Love Advances from Miscreants

Obiamaka Ngozichukwu Orakwe

Obiamaka Ngozichukwu Orakwe, a 14-year-old girl, was r*ped to death in her parents’ apartment in Abule-Ado area of Lagos State by miscreants.

According to Vanguard, the act was reportedly carried out by a group of miscreants, who usually hanged out in a smoking joint in the area, following the deceased’s negative response to their advances.

Tragedy, as gathered, occurred last Monday, while the Junior Secondary School 3 student was alone at home. The miscreants were said to have gained entry into Orakwe’s apartment from the back of the house, scaling the fence.

They were said to have gagged her, took turns to r*pe her and, thereafter, abandoned her in a pool of her blood. Her distraught mother said she was contacted on phone by residents, who saw the miscreants leaving the building through the fence.

Curious residents were said to have knocked several times on the gate to ascertain the miscreants’ mission, without any response from within.

On arrival, Mrs Orakwe reportedly opened the gate with a spare key, only to find her daughter in a pool of her blood in one of the rooms, gasping for breath.

Mrs Orakwe said: “When I asked her what happened, she said it was those boys she had told me about. We rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.”

A relative, who spoke to Vanguard on phone, said the deceased refused to join her siblings to spend the holiday at her uncle’s place in Lekki, saying “ she would like to stay at home to assist in the house chores.

“Before the incident happened, she complained that some boys, who smoke Indian hemp in the area, were making advances at her, which she turned down. “They must have targeted when her parents usually leave for work before storming the place. She has been buried at Berger Cemetery.”

The incident, as gathered, has been reported to the Police. Police sources at the Command Headquarters hinted that investigation into the incident had commenced.

According to the sources, “efforts are on to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act. We will notify the public when this is done.”

Coutinho Edges Closer to Barca as AC Milan Eyes Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo

Liverpool have reluctantly named their price for Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho, according to a report from Sport.

The Brazil international has reportedly agreed a deal with the Camp Nou side, though the Reds are determined to hold onto their star player.

If the Liga side are serious about landing Coutinho, they will have to pay £133 million for his services according to the Spanish publication. Barcelona have not yet ended their pursuit of in-demand Monaco youngster Kylian Mbappe, Le Parisien reports.

The Blaugrana are planning for life without Neymar as the Brazilian continues to be heavily linked with a big-money move to PSG - who also retain an interest in Mbappe - and see the 18-year-old as the perfect replacement.

Milan's CEO Marco Fassone and Massimo Mirabelli had a meeting with agent Jorge Mendes in which the subject of Cristiano Ronaldo was broached, according to Sky Sports.

The Serie A club bosses were hoping to be alerted to any situation that would see the Portugal star leave the club, though there are no negotiations over a potential deal at this point.

Barcelona will offer midfielder Ivan Rakitic as part of any deal to sign Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, according to a report from Don Balon . The Camp Nou side are determined to secure a deal for the Reds playmaker, though Jurgen Klopp and his team are unwilling to let him leave Anfield.

In an attempt to tempt Liverpool into selling, however, Barca will allow Rakitic to go in the opposite direction.

Arsenal are considering another raid on Ligue 1, with Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri having attracted the attention of manager Arsene Wenger, L'Equipe reports.

Seri was one of the stand out players as the Allianz Riviera side challenged for the French title last season and had been expected to move to Roma earlier this summer before a move broke down.

Swansea had a €17 million offer rejected and Tottenham are also keeping tabs on the Ivory Coast player's performances.

Arsenal are finally close to agreeing a £45 million deal with Monaco to sign winger Thomas Lemar, claims The Sun . Monaco have already rejected two bids for Lemar and had been determined to prevent the France international from joining the club exodus, but Arsenal have reportedly persuaded the Ligue 1 champions to sell.

Drama as Acting President Osinbajo Arrives Port-Harcourt for Commissioning of Project

Rotimi Amaechi descending from the aircraft

First, it was the Minister for Transport, Rotimi Amaechi who stepped out of the Presidential Jet, with shouts of "the Lion" by All Progressives Congress faithfuls who besieged the airport, then next was Senator Magnus Ngei Abe. They both walked down to where the chopper was waiting for the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

The Acting President then alighted the Jet and was received on hand by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and a handful of traditional rulers and others who queued for a formal handshake with the august visitor.

Governor Nyesom Wike and Acting President Yemi Osinbajo

A mild drama ensued as Wike pointed at the already waiting BMW to chauffeur drive Osinbajo who insisted rather that they walked to the already waiting Chopper where Amaechi, Abe and co were already seated.

Wike who was visibly worried tried hard to convince Osinbajo to go with him and commission just one project, but the Acting President insisted that they head to the Chopper for the venue of the commissioning of the World standard Fertilizer project built by the INDORAMA Group.

A disappointed Wike had to leave his aides, supporters and convoy behind and joined Osinbajo to the Chopper where APC faithfuls were already singing the praise of their leader, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.

As soon as Osinbajo entered into the Chopper and Wike made his way to enter, the already charged youths began to boo him with shouts of, "Come down!, Come down!" while some others continued with shouts of "the Lion!" until the Chopper left.

The governor's convoy and his party faithfuls were now grumbling over their leader's failure to convince Osinbajo to first commission any of his projects had to make their way back home as it was obvious that they may not make it to Eleme, the venue of the official program for the Ag. President.

It is not yet clear if the visitor will concede to Wike's pleas to commission any of his projects after the INDORAMA program.
