Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have intensified the ongoing offensive on Boko Haram enclaves in the Islands around the Lake Chad region.
The offensive which commenced about two weeks ago with coordinated air and artillery bombardments on Boko Haram enclaves while ground troops moved in to clear the areas,
is yielding positive results, as several insurgents have been killed and 167 insurgents who were fleeing from the offensive have been captured by troops.
Troops also extricated and profiled 67 women and 173 children who revealed during profiling exercise that they are family members of insurgents who fled, following troops’ offensive.
Arrangement is ongoing to hand them over to IDP camp authorities after preliminary investigations are concluded.
Meanwhile in the past two months, troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have sustained ongoing precursor operations and have conducted long range fighting patrols and ambushes seeking out and clearing BHT hideouts in Saada and Juwei in the fringes of northern Borno.
During the operations troops intercepted and arrested 53 fleeing insurgents who have been profiled and are currently helping with investigations.
Fifteen insurgents have also willingly abandoned the insurgent group, describing it as a futile struggle and have surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole within the period.
Our heartfelt sympathy and condolences go to families and relations of troops as well as civilians who paid the supreme price in the encounters and callous suicide bomb and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks by the terrorists.
While troops continue relentlessly in the ongoing offensive to decisively rid the northeast hinterlands of insurgents, members of the public are implored to be more security conscious and vigilant in their homes,
communities, places of worship, markets and other places of business to identify strange persons as well as any suspicious activity and promptly report same to security agencies. They are also urged to remember to “Say something, if you see something”.

Taribo West Tells Rohr Those to Involve in His World Cup Plans

Pastor Taribo West has given some success tips to German tactician, Gernot Rohr to ensure the progress of the Super Eagles at the World Cup.
Former Nigeria and Inter Milan defender Taribo West, has said that the Super Eagles will be a force to reckon with at the Russia 2018 World Cup if the national team coach Gernot Rohr involves some of the experienced ex-internationals in his plans.
Taribo also has called for the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to give ex-internationals, who have played the game at top levels, especially in Europe, the opportunity to contribute towards the success of the Eagles in Russia.
He told Punch Newspaper:-
If it’s a country where things are done the right way, where those in administration have the people at heart, we must bring those who know the game to pass it across to the next generation.
“I experienced different cultures working under different managers at the highest level, but I’m nowhere here.
“When I was at Al-Arabi, Pep Guardiola was in Al-Ahli in Qatar; when I was at Inter, he was at Barcelona. Frank de Boer was at Ajax when I was at Auxerre. It’sthe same story with ZinedineZidane and others.
“Look at where these guys are now, but here, we don’t have a structure that will ensure the older players pass their knowledge to the younger ones, it’s a shame.

A Home Office spokeswoman who spoke with BBC, about the situation said some applicants seeking a visa to settle in the UK must pass an English language test at an approved center specified in the immigration rules.
She said,
Mrs Rintoul failed to do this and also failed to submit the necessary supporting evidence for her application. It is open to her to reapply under the Priority Visa Service. Her application was denied on these grounds and she was asked to pass requisite English exam. As evidence of this, you have provided your IELTS certificate. However, it is noted that this certificate is not an IELTS certificate acceptable for UKV,” said the rejection letter sent by the immigration department.

So SAD! Millions Wasted As Fire Guts Popular Drug Market In Onitsha

The Onitsha drug market, otherwise known as Bridge Head Market was in the early hours of Saturday gutted by fire, leaving goods worth millions of naira destroyed in the inferno.
Sources said the fire incident started at about 6am on Saturday from Redemption Line of the market but the quick intervention of men of the Fire Service from Onitsha Main market and Building Materials Market Ogidi prevented the fire from spilling over to other parts of the market.
When DAILYPOST visited the market ,traders were seen in clusters clearing their shops of rubble and counting their losses.
No life was lost in the incident, but goods and cash lost in the disaster were described as colossal.
A victims, Chidubem Uzochukwu, told our correspondent that he lost N700,000 cash and goods worth over N15 million.
The President of Association of Medical and Pharmaceutical Products Dealers Onitsha Market, Mr. Uche Eze, said he was called by market security men at about 6.15 am on Saturday that there was fire outbreak at Redemption Line and he quickly called men of the Fire Service from Onitsha Main Market and Building Material Market Ogidi.
He said he also alerted members of his executive, who responded immediately and were able to quench the fire to avoid it spreading to the entire market.
He said ,”When I arrived at the market the fire was still raging, members of my executive were also here with me, including the President General of Bridge Head Markets Association Mr. Sunday Obinze, Chairman of Redemption Line and his Secretary, Alvin Okpaleke, were all here helping the Fire Service officials to quench the fire.
“Several shops were affected and millions of naira both in cash and goods were lost to this fire incident.
“You can see for yourself the debris left in the shops. The owners equipped their shops with goods for the Christmas sales, but you can see what has happened.
“The whole market would have been engulfed by the fire if not for our prompt response in calling the fire fighting men from both markets.
“We are therefore appealing to Governor Willie Obiano to come to the assistance of the affected traders; they have lost all they have been working for over the years in just one incident.
“We are also appealing to the governor to provide us with fire service equipment; it is unfortunate that the entire Bridge Head Markets Association has no fire service facility to tackle this kind of problem.”
