Wizkid Signs Multi-Album Deal With RCA Records/Sony Music International...Interesting Details

WizKid is arguably the biggest artiste from Nigeria at the moment and he has found a new home. According to Billboard, the Afrobeats star has signed a multi-album worldwide deal with RCA Records/Sony Music International.

"It’s hard for me to describe what I do, since I work with rhythms from Afro-Beat, reggae, hip-hop, dance hall and others," WizKid told Billboard in a statement.


"What’s important to me is for music to be real, authentic, raw and timeless. I don’t wanna be boxed in to any one genre."

RCA Records chairman and CEO Peter Edge added: "We are thrilled to welcome WizKid to the RCA Records family. He has become a superstar in the African music scene and will be a game-changer in bringing African music to the world. We are extremely excited to have him as a part of RCA and are eager for the journey ahead."

Raised on the sounds of Fela Kuti and King Sunny Ade, WizKid (born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun) gained popularity with the 2010 track "Holla At Your Boy" as a signee to Banky W's Empire Mates Entertainment.

He's also released two albums: 2011's Superstar and 2014's Ayo.

"We couldn’t be more excited to welcome WizKid to the Sony Music family," said Sony Music International president of Northern & Eastern Europe and Africa Adam Granite in a statement.

"This is an incredibly important signing as we look to make Africa a major source of repertoire for the world. Wiz is a key ambassador for this movement and we look forward to helping him conquer the globe."

WizKid has also already racked up accolades in his young career, including a BET Award for Best International Act Africa in 2012 and a British MOBO Award for Best African Act in 2011; most recently, he took home the honor of African Artist of the Year at both the 2016 African Pride Awards and the 2016 Ghana Music Awards.

He's currently readying his RCA Records debut.

Saraki Congratulates Justice Onnoghen on Confirmation as CJN

Dr. Bukola Saraki, the President of the Senate, has congratulated the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen for his confirmation by the Senate.

Saraki on his facebook page said: “Today, we screened and cleared Justice Walter Samuel Onnoghen, CFR for confirmation as the Chief Justice of Nigeria. !The screening represents a major milestone in the progress of our democratic process.


“I am pleased to note that all arms of government have played their parts exactly as envisaged in our constitution.

“On behalf of my distinguished colleagues, I congratulate Justice Walter Samuel Onnoghen, CFR, for his well deserved elevation to the highest judicial office in the land. “This achievement should underscore the inspiring reality that a Nigerian can rise to any position he merits.”

The President of the Senate however urged Onnoghen to deepen the productive relationship between the legislature and the Judiciary. He pledged that the Senate will collaborate with the two other arms to support critical reforms and other initiatives that will improve the integrity and the impact of the judiciary.

“On behalf of my colleagues, I wish Justice Walter Samuel Onnoghen, CFR, a most fruitful tenure as Chief Justice of Nigeria,” he said.

The new Chief Justice of Nigeria was appointed in acting capacity by President Muhammadu Buhari on Novemebr 10, 2016 following the recommendation of the National Judicial Council. Onnoghen’s name was however sent to the Senate for confirmation on February 7, 2017 by Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

The Senate after due consideration and screening confirmed the appointment of Onnoghen as CJN.

A Facebook user, Malik Nasir has warned Nigerians to be very careful when buying new phones as it could land you in prison without you knowing.

He warned Nigerians buying fairly used phones to insist on getting a receipt.


He wrote: "Any time you buy that fairly or London used phone, you could be buying your way to prison. Stolen phones are now packaged or disguised as London or fairly used phones. Most of the phones were collected at gun-point or by robbers, stolen in traffic, snatched vehicles and bags, pickpocketed etc.

Some of the disguised London or fairly used phones carry murder cases, particularly, where the true owners were murdered.

Several of such reported cases of stolen phones come from Oshodi, Mile 2, Mile 12, Mushin e.tc. These phones are mostly without packs and chargers.

Each time you buy used phone, insist on the source and get your receipt. Please, keep it. That could be your saviour when the law enforcement agents tracked the phone to you because it might be difficult getting those that sold it to you.

Note that, each time you buy that unverified fairly or London used phone, you are helping to keep robbers and criminals in business. As soon as the robbers and criminals get their victims' phones, they are moved to Computer Village, Mushin and other markets where they are made to look like London or Fairly Used Phones."

A popular youth in Ogoni, Boy-Yo has been shot dead this evening by some unknown gunmen. The men are believed to be cultists who belong to a rival group. He was reportedly pursued and gunned down in broad daylight.

Baridam Ben who shared the sad news wrote:"Crime does not pay. Ogoni boys should wise up. This is the lifeless body of Boy-Yo, gunned down few minutes ago by gunmen. It is painful because he had great promises, great potentials, great energy, but has been swallowed by the street. 

Ogoni boys should know that the Rivers State government is not interested in their well-being, so use your energy for productive ventures and not militancy and cultism.

This is a sad day for every street boy in Bori because this is someone we all know, and it is a sad reminder of everything that is wrong about the street. Countless of people like this are dying every single day in Ogoni land, but who the f*ck even cares?

The two armed robbers shot dead by men of the Nigerian police 

Two members of a suspected armed robbery gang have been shot dead by men of the Nigerian police during an exchange of gun fire in Oyo state on Friday.

According to The Tribune, the gang members also killed a police sergeant, simply identified as Solomon, attached to Ogbere Police Station and injured a private guard during their robbery operations before their encounter with the police.


Briefing journalists on the incident at Agugu Police Station yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Superintendent of Police Adekunle Ajisebutu, said that the eight-man robbery gang invaded residences in some areas of the capital city and robbed the occupants of their valuables.

According to the PPRO, “at about 2.30a.m., today (yesterday) Friday, December 30, a notorious gang of dare-devil armed robbers numbering about eight invaded Ogbere Keyinsi, Itamerin and other areas of Ibadan for robbery operations, during which a police sergeant was killed.

The same gang also shot a private security guard, later identified simply as Damilare. He is currently in the hospital as he was critically injured.

“The police responded to a distress call and engaged the armed robbers. In the course of an exchange of fire, two members of the criminal gang were shot and fatally injured. They died shortly afterwards. Items recovered from them include two locally-made pistols, three cutlasses, some cartridges, iron cutter and criminal charms.”

The PPRO also said that one of the suspects disclosed his name as Tunde Ahmed, aged 28, before he gave up the ghost.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Sam Adegbuyi expresses his appreciation to members of the public for the wonderful cooperation they have given this command through the release of useful information. He assured the people of the state of adequate security of their lives and property,” Ajisebutu stated.

Speaking on the incident, a victim said that: "The armed robbers came to my parents’ apartment at Gongosi area of Itamerin Community, Ibadan at almost 3a.m today (Friday). They cut the burglary proof and entered through the window. They knocked at the window of mother’s room where I slept. They asked us to open the door, announcing themselves as armed robbers who came to visit us. They warned us not to make noise.

“My mother and I woke my dad and my brother up and then opened the door for them. Three of them came in and each of them had a gun and a cutlass. They told us: “Awa gbowo odun wa ni o” (We are here to collect cash gift for the season).

We told them we didn’t have money and they threatened to kill my younger brother and rape me. “Because of the threat, my brother brought out the N30,000 I helped him to withdraw the previous day and gave them. My father gave them N5,000 and they took my mummy’s purse and emptied it of the cash therein. They also took my phone and my friend’s that we were charging. They left and went to the next building.”

The PPRO assured members of the public of safety, while urging them to continue to give information that would help the police in arresting criminals within the society.

The poster who shared the story and the deceased's photos, wrote; "A kind hearted guy.... Full of life..... But d evil ones wouldn't let him live long.... Died yesterday on his way back to his base in Malaysia... .. Died in d plane.... Still hard to believe.... Sleep on somy nwa nnem.... God bless ur soul....."

Xenophobia: South Africa Deports 97 Nigerians

The South African Government has deported 97 Nigerians for committing various offences in the country. The deportees landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Monday night in a chartered aircraft with the registration number GBB710 from Johannesburg.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that they were made up of 95 males and two females. DSP Joseph Alabi, the Spokesman of the Lagos Airport Police Command, confirmed the development to NAN.


An immigration source told NAN on condition of anonymity that six of the deportees were returned to the country for drug offences while 10 were arrested and deported for other criminal offences . The others were said to have committed immigration offences in the Southern African country.

All the deportees were profiled by officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) while those deported for drug related offences were handed over to the Police for further investigation.

NAN reports that the Federal Government had also on Monday evacuated 41 Nigerian girls who were trafficked to Mali for sex and labour exploitation.

Six of the suspected human traffickers were also apprehended and brought back to the country for prosecution.

The OAU graduate explained why she was yet single, and said, “I would have been married some years back, I lost my man two months to our wedding. “He was shot by armed robbers and I mourned him for two years.

After then, I went into another relationship with my best friend who was supposed to be our best man. “He was my friend and he later became my man’s friend. I later realised I didn’t know him well enough after we dated for eight months.

“That was another heart break. Having suffered two heartbreaks , I decided to take it easy and fell in love with my job. For now, I am fine without a man.”

When asked how her s*x life has been since she was not in a relationship, she said she has been so busy to think about s*x.

She added, “S*x for me has to do with my mind. If I was in a relationship, I could be very active sexually but since I am not in a relationship, what could bring the thought of sex into my mind?
