A jealous grandma stands accused of murdering her neighbour's grandson for being "cuter and smarter" than her own grandson. Li Xiuling suffocated five-year-old Wang Minghan, and then buried him in her own courtyard, police in China said. The 52-year-old snatched Minghan while he was playing outside and bundled him into a van. Minghan's grandmother was in her house during the kidnapping - and only realised he had been taken when she saw his shoes still by the front door. Child traffickers were suspected of the crime, but three weeks later, a search of the local area unearthed a loosely covered hole at Li's house.

Minghan was found buried in the hole and Li, from China’s Henan Province, was arrested. The mother-of-two told officers that she was envious the lad was smarter, cuter, and more energetic than her own grandson - who is bedridden with muscular atrophy. She said that seeing Minghan every day caused her emotional pain, and that she had planned the murder well in advance, even digging the hole that would eventually be the tragic boy's premature grave. She is now awaiting trial.
