Governor Wike Fights Back, Forces Rivers Speaker To Resign

The political atmosphere in Rivers State is an interesting one at the moment. Want to know why? From what bclems news gathered, as soon as the Court of Appeal sack the embattled 23 members of the state house of assembly, it will be constitutional impossible for the few members left in the assembly to elect a Speaker as they won't be able to form the required quorum.

Consequently, Governor Nyesom Wike, who is under pressure, has forced the current speaker of the house, Ikunyi-Awaji-Ibani to resign. This is to make way for one of Wike's loyal boy.

The person to be made Speaker pro-tempora by Governor Wike is one of the few whose election was not nullified by the Tribunal. The plan is to front him as legitimate if Supreme Court sack Wike and President Muhammadu Buhari is made to appoint a Sole Administrator for Rivers State.

Rt. Hon. Awaji-Ibani resigned from office at exactly 6:57pm immediately after passing the N307b 2016 budget as presented to the house by Governor Wike.

Speaking about his resignation, the speaker said “in life, there is time for everything. I was called to serve and I think I have served you well. At this juncture, I want to announce that I am stepping aside for reasons best known to me.”
