Aisha Should Stay Out of Politics, She Belongs in My Kitchen - Buhari Insists in Another Interview

On Friday, the internet went in frenzy buzing with mixed reactions and criticisms after President Muhammadu Buhari said his wife belonged in the kitchen, and “the other room,” apparently a euphemism for the bedroom.

Recall that the president made the above comment at a press conference after a closed-door meeting, with German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in response to an interview his wife, Aisha granted the BBC, where she said that his government had been hijacked, adding that she might not support her husband under the present circumstances if he seeks re-election in 2019.

Buhari in his reaction had stated; “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but my wife belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room. “It is not easy to do away with opposition or people who did not follow you along your campaign trail. I hope my wife will remember that I was on the field for 12 years; I tried three times, the fourth time I managed to succeed. And I ended up the first three times in the Nigerian Supreme Court, so I claim superior knowledge over her and the rest of the opposition and I succeeded.”

In response to a backlash from the statement, Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, said the president was only joking. But in an interview with DW’s Phil Gayle, Buhari reiterated his position for the second time, saying the function of his wife was to take care of his home:

DW: Recently your wife criticised your choices for top jobs, and you responded by saying “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room.” What did you mean by that, sir?

Buhari: I am sure you have a house. … You know where your kitchen is, you know where your living room is, and I believe your wife looks after all of that, even if she is working.

DW: That is your wife’s function?

Buhari: Yes, to look after me.

DW: And she should stay out of politics?

Buhari: I think so.

Buhari Surprises Soldier In Germany 6 Months After He Survived An Auto Crash

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday, October 15, paid an unscheduled visit to Acting General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Brigadier General MSA Aliyu at a hospital in Berlin, Germany.

This comes barely six months after the top military officer miraculously survived a ghastly road accident in the course of a duty tour in the North-East.

Aliyu is said to be receiving treatment in the German hospital for the injuries he sustained in an auto crash on Maiduguri-Damaturu Road.

While Aliyu survived, the Head of Training and Operations of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Yusha’u Abubakar, who was with him during the ill-fated trip was said to have died in the crash.

But according to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, President Buhari was accompanied to the hospital by the Governors of Borno and Imo States, the National Security Adviser, the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to pay Aliyu a surprise visit.

Buhari was said to have congratulated Aliyu for recuperating fast. “The President and his delegation wished him a quick recovery and an early return to his family and duties in Nigeria.

He gave a further assurance that his administration will continue to accord priority to the health and wellbeing of service personnel,” the statement read.

Shehu also quoted doctors managing Aliyu as saying that the military officer could barely move his head only when he was admitted, as the rest of his body was said to be torn and broken in many parts. However, Aliyu expressed gratitude to the President for his visit, saying his spirit had been buoyed up to serve Nigeria more.

The Nigerian Army said on Monday, March 7, that the Chief of Training and Operations of the Nigerian Army, Major General Yushau Mahmood Abubakar met an accident and died in the epicenter of the war on terror, in a road accident along Maiduguri-Damaturu Road.

A statement confirming the death of the immediate past Theater Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole and signed by Col. Sani Usman said: “The road accident also involved the Acting General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Brigadier General MSA Aliyu who sustained some injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.”

Buhari Is Possessed – Fani-Kayode Blasts

Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has said President Buhari is possessed by ”strange and powerful entities,” adding that the President needs prayer.

Fani-Kayode, who was reacting to Buhari’s comment on his wife’s inerview on the BBC, stated this on Friday in a Facebook post.

It will be recalled that Aisha Buhari had said people who did not share the vision of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), were now appointed to top posts because of the influence of certain people.

Asked to comment on his wife’s statement, Buhari laughed off the comments and said: “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room, and the other room.”

Fani-Kayode, PDP, Presidential campaign chairman in the 2015 General elections, said; “When our President can get up and tell the whole world all the way from distant Germany that his wife “belongs to the kitchen, the living room and the other room” simply because she dared to speak her mind to the BBC then you know that he is in the grip of something evil and that demons are speaking through him.

“It is all part of the spiritual dimension of living in the Villa that Abati was referring to in his essay, he noted.

“The President’s mind has become twisted and he is now posessed by strange and powerful entities. Any man that can say that about his wife can kill his children. He needs a lot of prayer,” Fani-Kayode added.

Tension in Kaduna, Two Killed as Youths with Weapons Attack Shiites Muslim Group (Photos)

Scene of the clash

Two members of the Shiite movement were reportedly killed on Saturday as the group tried to rebuild its school destroyed near Zango road, Tudun Wada in Kaduna, witnesses said.

Ten other members were injured in the attack. This has caused panic as many residents of Tudun Wada, Ungwan Muazu, Kinkinau remained indoors. Those caught up along Nnamdi Azikwe way and other streets scampered for safety.

Bala Zango, a shop owner along Zango Road, said the issue was getting out of hand as hundreds of youth were advancing towards Ungwan Muazu to hunt for Shiite members.

Ungwan Muazu is among the areas in Kaduna, where many Shiites reside. “We heard that, two persons suspected to be members of the Shiite were dead,” he said. “It’s very scary because at the end of the day, it’s the innocent people that will fall victim.”

Some witnesses said Awwal Maikyau, the Special Adviser on Youth to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, was attacked as he attempted to mediate.

“Awwal Yaro Maikyau, the Governors SA on youths whose house is close to the scene of the incident, was also attacked while trying to mediate between them and the irate youths,” a family member confirmed.

The Shiites said they were attacked as they tried to rebuild the sect’s school that was attacked on Tuesday.

“Some thugs came to attack us with weapons, insisting that we must be evicted completely from the place,” one member said.

“Police arrived the scene and went with some of our members and some community members for settlement. “As they left, 10 of our Shiite members were machete. It was rumoured that one person died, but we are still making inquiries to confirm.

“This is the danger behind playing politics with religion,” the member said.

The police spokesperson, Aliyu Usman, told Premium Times that the police are monitoring the situation.

“Please be patient, we are monitoring the situation, we shall get back to you later,” he said.

Inspector Shot Dead, Armoury Completely Looted as Gunmen Attack Ekiti Police Division (Photos)

The police station in Ekiti

A police inspector on duty was reportedly killed on Friday as suspected gunmen numbering about 40 raided Ido-Ekiti Divisional Police Station in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti state.

According to Nigerian Trubune, the armoury of the police station was also reportedly emptied by the attackers who blew off the roof top of the station allegedly with dynamite. The entire police station, including the ceilings was destroyed during the raid.

A detective attached to the station, who craved anonymity, revealed that the suspected gunmen invaded the police station around 7.20pm yesterday and ransacked all rooms in the station.

The source added that some of the gunmen drove into the station while others scaled the fence and headed for the station’s armoury, as few policemen were on duty at the time of the raid.

The source said the heavily armed gunmen rained bullets on the police inspector who died on the spot.

The police source said: “They drove in recklessly through the gate. Some of them had scaled the fence and took over the entire police station. Some of them even scaled the fence and took strategic positions around the station, shot into the air sporadically and destroyed virtually every room and office. They had gone straight to the police station and the armoury.

“They looted the armoury, took everything there and left it empty. Our suspicion was that they came only to loot the armoury because that was why they first attacked and demobilised our men. In fact, they emptied the entire place.”

Asked if some suspects of dangerous crime were being detained at the station, which could be the reason for the attack, the source said “if that was the motive, then they should have attacked the cells; they didn’t attack the cells.”

The source said the policemen on guard during the raid were overpowered because the attackers were fierce, according to him, “they rained bullets on the police inspector and he was said to have died on the spot.”

A correspondent contacted the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Alberto Adeyemi for police reaction on the incident but he was unreachable via his mobile phones.
