Buhari Surprises Soldier In Germany 6 Months After He Survived An Auto Crash

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday, October 15, paid an unscheduled visit to Acting General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Brigadier General MSA Aliyu at a hospital in Berlin, Germany.

This comes barely six months after the top military officer miraculously survived a ghastly road accident in the course of a duty tour in the North-East.

Aliyu is said to be receiving treatment in the German hospital for the injuries he sustained in an auto crash on Maiduguri-Damaturu Road.

While Aliyu survived, the Head of Training and Operations of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Yusha’u Abubakar, who was with him during the ill-fated trip was said to have died in the crash.

But according to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, President Buhari was accompanied to the hospital by the Governors of Borno and Imo States, the National Security Adviser, the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to pay Aliyu a surprise visit.

Buhari was said to have congratulated Aliyu for recuperating fast. “The President and his delegation wished him a quick recovery and an early return to his family and duties in Nigeria.

He gave a further assurance that his administration will continue to accord priority to the health and wellbeing of service personnel,” the statement read.

Shehu also quoted doctors managing Aliyu as saying that the military officer could barely move his head only when he was admitted, as the rest of his body was said to be torn and broken in many parts. However, Aliyu expressed gratitude to the President for his visit, saying his spirit had been buoyed up to serve Nigeria more.

The Nigerian Army said on Monday, March 7, that the Chief of Training and Operations of the Nigerian Army, Major General Yushau Mahmood Abubakar met an accident and died in the epicenter of the war on terror, in a road accident along Maiduguri-Damaturu Road.

A statement confirming the death of the immediate past Theater Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole and signed by Col. Sani Usman said: “The road accident also involved the Acting General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Brigadier General MSA Aliyu who sustained some injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.”
