So Heartbreaking: Meet the Nigerian Pastor Who is Addicted to Torturing His Kids (Graphic Photos)

Christopher Sule and his battered kids

The story of the 40-year old pastor who beats his two children so brutally with cable, leaving severe marks all over their body continues to elicit widespread condemnation, as the man at the centre of it all has now been arrested in Jos by the officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in collaboration with Social Welfare Department of Jos South Local Government of Plateau State.

The pastor known as Christopher Sule who has engaged in this bestial act for a period of three years is said to be chaplain in Bima a private hospital and also claimed to be a Pastor with ECWA Bishara (1) Bukuru and currently pursuing a Master’s degree at Jos ECWA Theological Seminary in Plateau State.

He hails from Wamba Local Government of Nassarawa State and has been handed over to the Nigerian Police Force in Jos Saturday Telegraph checks show that the pastor regularly beat his two daughters, ages eight and six, as as a result of their inability to recite what they were taught in school as well as stealing meat from the pot of soup at home due to his excessive anger.

However the management of the children’s school last week noticed several lacerations on their bodies as result of thee severe beating over a minor issue and the school quickly reported the incident to the NSCDC in Jos South Local Government secretariat and the father was apprehended for interrogation.

Wife of the pastor, Mrs Racheal Christopher, 35, and an NCE Holder teaching in one of the primary schools in Bukuru had also received a share of the treatment for coming to the rescue of her daughters. The pathetic story of the two female children is heart wrenching given the extent of the injuries inflicted on them.

While narrating their ordeal to Saturday Telegraph in Jos, the mother could not hold back tears as she recounted the constant beating and harassment she and her daughters had endured.

“For the past three years, we have been in bondage and under the yoke of maltreatment by my husband who under slight provocation would descend on me and the children and beat us to pulp. I had reported the issue to my family but my husband would always ask for forgiveness with a promise not to do so again,” she said.

“My husband was arrested and taken to the local government secretariat; although he had been beating them the last one was so terrible that I had to struggle with him to rescue the children. But I got the beating of my life in the process. The beating has become so rampant that the people in the neighbourhood no longer intervene,” she claimed.

She revealed that she had threatened several times to park out of her matrimonial home along with her children but was often prevailed upon by family members to stay for the sake of the kids and to pray for her husband to turn a new leaf.

She added: “It is like my husband is under a spell or spiritual attack. After my husband carried out this evil act, he always came back, pleading and telling me to pray for him because he did not know what came upon him. We have fasted and prayed together over this issue.”

While speaking Saturday Telegraph on the circumstances leading to his action, Sule said he could not justify his action and confessed that he flogged his daughters more than the offence they committed. “I don’t know what really came upon me; although I had been beating them that way for the past three years I always regretted my action.

By nature I am temperamental and also have excessive anger, but I need deliverance,” he said.

The pastor who couldn’t control his tears, admitted beating his daughters and told Saturday Telegraph in Jos that he flogged them when they could not recollect what they were taught in school and also for stealing meat in the soup. He pleaded for mercy, promising to love his children.

Chief Social Welfare Officer of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State where the incident was reported, Mr Ancha Adik Jonathan, told Saturday Telegraph in his office in Jos that the arrest of the pastor followed a tip off by the management of the school the two children attended after the discovery of several injuries on the children by the head teacher.

He said: “The head teacher of Salvation Kingdom Academy the school the children attend noticed the injuries of the beating and alerted us at the Social Welfare department because she an advocate of child protection.

Following her information and based on the child right law that had been domesticated in Plateau State we had to immediately request the service of the men of NSCDC to arrest the man, and even when we got to his house we discovered he also locked his daughter who is just over a year in a room and went to the bush to look for firewood without minding what will happen to the child.

“So, the magnitude of his offence was too heavy and we had to immediately take over the custody of his three children including his wife because there is Christian Centre called Queens that we are collaborate with on issues of child abuse and other family related issues.”

Mr. Jonathan disclosed that the pastor worships with ECWA Bishara in Bukuru where he had preached on several occasions.

“We will ensure that the man face the full wrath of the law to serve as deterrence to all other persons in the society; already he had been handed over to the Police and very soon he will be charged to court” he said.

The Management Committee Chairman of Jos North Local Government, Comrade Augustine Pwakim, who confirmed the incident, said the council would henceforth collaborate with Child Protection Agency and State Ministry of Women Affairs to enlighten parents on the danger of child abuse.

Comrade Pwakim said Pastor Christopher had been handed to relevant law enforcement agencies for prosecution to serve as a deterrence to others.

Meanwhile the Plateau State Coordinator Child right Protection Network Mr Tony Obemeasor has given assurance that the children will be taken to hospital for checkup and treatment for trauma as result of the repeated beatings.

File Photo

At least 11 persons reportedly lost their lives yesterday when a boat they were traveling in capsized at Kaambe crossing point at Gbajimba in Guma local government area of Benue State.

Guma is the home town of Governor Samuel Ortom of the All Progressives Congress. The Sole Administrator of the council, Mr. Anthony Shawon who made this known in Makurdi, said the boat which was conveying the victims who were mourners was overloaded when the incident happened.

He attributed the cause of the mishap to heavy wind, adding that most of the victims who were heavily drunk at the time of the accident refused to heed advise of the boat paddlers that the passengers be ferried in batches.

According to the Sole Administrator, the unfortunate incident sparked angry reaction from youths of the area who went on rampage making bonfire and further resorted to attacks on some persons.

“They protested that the incident had a superstitious connotation. They ended up stoning three elders to death in addition to the eight that drowned and went further to burn down their houses. “The irate youths also attacked the district head of Gbajimba, Gwatse Akaahena who had the windscreen of his car smashed.

“I tried to calm them down, but they went wild going after every elder in the area. I, then saw another group of Indian hemp smokers with matchete parading the area. “I reported the incident to soldiers and mobile police officers who swiftly intervened and restored security to the area though no arrests have been made so far.” Shawon said.

When contacted, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Moses Yamu confirmed the incident, noting that there was mob action in Gbajimba but added that normalcy had since been restored in the area while investigation into the matter had commenced.

“If Mugabe Dies, We Will Field His Corpse As A Candidate For Election” - Wife

First lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Grace Mugabe has said that her husband, Robert Mugabe is so much loved by his people to an extent that even if he dies, he will still be fielded as a candidate in a presidential election and Zimbabweans will still massively vote for him.

The 51 years old first lady, who now performs most of his aged husband’s presidential functions and is touted as his possible replacement said this during a rally by the ZANU-PF, the Zimbabwean ruling party.

“If Mugabe dies, we will field his corpse as a candidate for elections to prove that people love him.” She told thousands of cheering supporters at the rally in Buhera, Eastern Zimbabwe. “You will see people voting for Mugabe as a corpse. I am seriously telling you – just to show people how people love their president.” she added.

Grace Mugabe further echoed her husbands role during the guerrilla war against white rule, adding that Mugabe’s associates whom she accused of plotting to take over from him were too old to take power.

“Anyone who was with Mugabe in 1980 has no right to tell him he is old. If you want Mugabe to go, then you leave together. You also have to leave. Then we take over because we were not there in 1980.” She said.

92 year old Mugabe has increasingly become scarce in the public while the first lady increased her public engagements in recent months. Late last year, the first lady told a women congregation that she was ready to run for the presidency since she was doing everything for her husband.

Mugabe who is set to turn 93 on Tuesday has ruled the southern Africa nation since 1987 amidst a tumbling economy and poor human rights record.

A popular pastor who last year led a popular protest against the Mugabe regime was recently arrested, and after he was released on bail he expressed interest in contesting against Mugabe in the country’s 2018 General election.

Though it is not yet clear how he will fare against a living Mugabe, it is much harder predicting how he will fare against his corpse.

CBN Orders Banks to Give Customers N375 Per Dollar for School Fees, Medicals

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will soon increase the disbursement of forex to meet demands for payment of school fees for Nigerian students abroad, medical expenses, personal and business travel allowances.

According to Leadership the apex bank will henceforth give weekly allocations of $1million to Deposit Money Banks (DMB) in the country, while the banks would be expected to sell to their customers at the rate of N375 per dollar.

The National Economic Council (NEC) had on Thursday, February 16, urged the CBN to immediately review the exchange policy. The council members had expressed concern over the current situation of the exchange rate and called for an urgent review of the forex policy, especially the gap between inter-bank’s and the parallel market’s rates.

A source in CBN on Friday, February 17, said that the apex bank is currently perfecting plans to effect weekly allocations of $1million for the DMB.

In recent times, the CBN, in meeting the dollar demand of the country, particularly for sectors that are crucial to economic growth and development, had regularly sold foreign exchange at the forwards end of the interbank market to clear the backlog.

Last month, the apex bank sold $660 million in three and five month currency forwards at an auction. Banks were asked to bid in a special currency auction targeted at clearing backlog of dollar obligations of manufacturing, airlines, agriculture and petroleum sector.

During the week CBN had released the total amount of dollar allocation to customers in December last year and January this year. Together, banks in the country had sold $2.83 billion for utilization in the critical sectors of the economy such as manufacturing, agriculture, raw materials, aviation, petroleum products amongst others in line with the 60:40 foreign exchange policy.

The CBN under the new 60:40 foreign exchange policy prioritizes forex sales to manufacturers, agriculture, plant and machinery, critical raw materials, among others, and requires banks to publish on a weekly basis the volume and value of foreign exchange that they sell, who they sell it to and for what purpose.

The banks, having sourced their foreign exchange from the CBN, International Oil Companies (IOCs) and other autonomous sources allocate it to their customers based on the 60:40 basis after it has been verified that the foreign exchange is not to be used for any of the 41 items that has been removed from the eligible forex list.

According to the apex bank, priority was given to manufacturing, raw material and agriculture above other demands as its disbursements are targeted at employment generating and wealth creating sectors of the economy.

In another development, Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central of Nigeria (CBN), has been asked to provide the federal government with an explanation into corruption allegations at the apex bank.

The Punch reports that the CBN was fired a query by the attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) over allegations against the bank’s foreign exchange allocation and transactions.

According to Malami, on Wednesday, February 15, the fraud allegations against the CBN which were contained in several petitions to the AGF, were “supported by several documents.”
