Hundreds of women in purdah, under aged children on Thursday staged a peaceful protest in Kano over incessant abduction of teenagers in the state.
The protesters marched from Kawo area of the municipal to Government House carrying placards with various inscriptions “Ganduje halt these senseless abduction” “who is after our children” “whoever is after our children is after us”.
The protesters who were mainly women in purdah and young were refused entry to Kano Government House by stern looking security agents on guard at a fortified gate.
Consequently, a senior police officer who was at the gate at the time of the protest received a letter submitted by the aggressive women and children for onward delivery to the Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Receiving their letter of protest, the senior police officer expressed sympathy over their plight and promised to deliver their letter to the Governor who was in Abuja attending to other state’s matters.
Addressing Reporters shortly after, the leader of the protesting women, Malama Lami Abubakar alleged that rampant cases of under aged children within and around Kawo quarters of Tarauni local government area in the metropolis disappearing has unsettled families.
Lami Abubakar accused the local authorities of doing less in the face of the dwindling security situation, stressing that, “we found ourselves in crisis.
Malama Lami betrayed emotions during the tensed media briefing alleged that “in the last three days, two children were discovered in captivity at a resident of a man that supposed to protect his subjects but security agents appeared to have compromised investigations”.
Lami displayed some of the boys who were allegedly abducted by the suspected pedophile within the vicinity.
“We have made several attempts to arrest the suspect but on each occasion our ward head usually shielded the suspect claiming he is a lunatic” Lami therefore said “we craved for urgent intervention from the state Governor and all well meaning individuals to come to our aid and fish out those behind abduction of our children “.
The protesting women and their children also matched to the Emir of Kano’s Palace and lodged the same complain. So sad.
