JUST IN: DSS Writes Senate Again, Insists EFCC Boss, Magu Lacks Integrity During Live Screening (Letter)

During the just concluded live screening of Ibrahim Magu, the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Senator Dino Melaye, confirmed that the State Security Service (DSS) indicted Magu in a fresh report dispatched on Tuesday evening, and insisted that Magu, is not fit to head the anti-graft agency because he lacks integrity.

The influential Kogi state lawmaker made the declaration after it had appeared that Magu would scale the Senate hurdle, when he is answering a wide range of questions at his confirmation hearing still underway.

“In the light of the foregoing, Magu has failed the integrity test and will eventually constitute a liability to the anti-corruption stand of the current government,” the SSS report, read by Dino Melaye, stated.

An earlier report by the DSS had prevented the Senate from confirming Magu as EFCC chairman earlier before President Muhammadu Buhari wrote to the senate and insist that Magu should be screened.

Imo Community Banishes Cultists Over Killing Of 20-year-old Man (Photos)

This was even as the community had resolved to banish any youth of the community who involves in cult related related activity anymore.

At meeting on Saturday which comprised clerics, security Agents, members of the community and their leaders, the visibly disturbed villagers resolved to explore legal options to make sure that those who indulge in the unlawful act were brought to justice.

Adamu, a Chief Superintendent of Police who urged parents, teachers and community leaders to end the scourge, maintained that those who take part in cultism were those who feel that they were above the law.

While advising the youths to stop taking laws into their hands, like administering jungle justice on people, the DPO added “a cultist can die at anytime.

A cultist is a walking corpse. Instead of of carrying books, cultists bear arms and ammunition, using them to kill people and sack communities”.

Donald Trump Set to Sign New Policy in the United States to Affect Nigerians... See Details

President Donald Trump

Nigerians might soon be affected by a new policy to be implemented by President Donald Trump of the United States of America. This has to do with the cutting of financial aid recipients in the country, especially Non-Governmental Organisations.

The revelation was made by a former US intelligence community’s top expert on Nigeria and publisher of nigeriaknowledge.com, Matthew Page. He revealed details of this on Twitter.

According to politico.com, the budget blueprint expected later this week will still trim funding for both the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development next year, but by less than the 37 percent initially floated in preliminary documents sent out by the White House in late February.

The budget revision is expected to include “staged cuts” spread out over several years, instead of the immediate hit, according to a senior administration official, who said that the White House is giving Tillerson time “to do a deeper analysis on foreign aid.”

It will affect Nigeria because the country is 5th largest U.S. aid recipient (mostly health NGOs), according to Page. Tillerson and his top aides are assessing how to restructure the State Department, another person with knowledge of the discussions said, and is willing to take a “significant” cut to the department's budget.

Tillerson wouldn’t agree to a 37 percent cut in the next fiscal year because he wants to decide how the cuts are made, this person said, focusing on departments, offices and issues that he doesn't think are important.

President Donald Trump said Obamacare would implode if the Republicans didn't intervene.

In the last week, Tillerson’s met twice with Trump, once over lunch and once in the Oval Office, and he’s scheduled to have dinner with Trump on Monday along with new National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster. Including Monday’s dinner, Tillerson and Trump will have met six times in the last three weeks.

It wasn’t clear exactly how much the upcoming budget proposal would slash State Department funding right away, or if the staged cuts would eventually add up to 37 percent from this year

Nigerian Man Allegedly Murdered by Policemen in India (Photos)

Ifeanyi Madu alias Nwa Jesus was alleged to have been killed by the police

Policemen in India have been fingered and accused of murdering a Nigerian man and staging it to look like an accident.

The man identified as Ifeanyi Madu alias Nwa Jesus died on Monday after police alleged that the bike on which he was riding pillion skidded on Kothanur Avalahalli Road, police said.

According to a report by the Times of India, the African community, however, has described the death as "murder" and is questioning the police version of events.

The Central Crime Branch, which is the complainant in the case, said its team was at the spot to conduct a drug bust when the accident occurred. K N Yashavanth Kumar, inspector, women and narcotic cell of the Central Crime Branch (CCB), said in his complaint that his team was on Kothanur Avalahalli Road expecting to make an arrest after an exchange of drugs for money when the accident occurred.

A senior officer said the team had left the office around 7.30pm and was waiting at the spot. The African community, contesting the police version, said that some of its members saw Madu with plainclothes police officers near a supermarket in the area around 10pm.

In a letter to the Nigerian high commission in New Delhi, they have sought its intervention so that the case is handed over to an independent agency like the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

An official statement quoting Kumar's complaint said: "The team was waiting by the road. Around 12.10am (Monday), two persons riding a scooter passed and returned, making a U-turn; suddenly the rider tried speeding with the intention of running away."

Police said the rider lost control, and the pillion rider was tossed from the bike. The rider left him behind and escaped. Yashvanth's complaint said his team took the victim to Bowring and Lady Curzon hospital in Shivajinagar, and the doctor declared him as "dead on arrival."

Later, representatives of 11 African nations were called to the hospital in a bid to identify the man. They circulated his photograph on WhatsApp and the victim was identified as Ifeanyi Madu alias NWA Jesus.

Based on information provided by the Nigerian community, police have contacted the Foreigner Regional Registration Office and are awaiting confirmation of the man's identity. Police said they do not have any conclusive evidence at present to link Madu with any kind of criminal activity, including drug dealing.

The community's legal adviser Bosco Kaweesi said: "The nature of the injuries do not point to an accident. We want an impartial investigation into the matter. This murder comes close on the heels of the murder of a Ugandan woman in February, who the police conveniently called a prostitute and her death has not been investigated properly."

Police maintain that the death was caused by an accident and that they never had Madu in custody. Police have seized the vehicle involved in the accident but had not traced its owner or the rider. They have found a mobile phone, which they think belonged to Madu.

Police commissioner Praveen Sood said: "We are checking those details. We don't know if it is a stolen vehicle. We cannot say anything now."

Public Warning: Taking Fanta, Sprite with Vitamin C Poisonous

File Photo

A Lagos State High Court, Igbosere, yesterday ordered the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to compel Nigeria Bottling Company (NBC) Plc, manufacturers of Fanta and Sprite soft drinks, to include a written warning that the drinks should not be taken with Vitamin C.

Justice Adedayo Oyebanji gave the order while delivering judgment in a suit by a Lagos businessman, Dr. Emmanuel Fijabi Adebo, and his firm, Fijabi Adebo Holdings Ltd., against NBC and NAFDAC according to The Nation.

The court warned that taking Fanta and Sprite with Vitamin C is poisonous and awarded N2 million against NAFDAC for failing “to live up to expectations”.

It said NAFDAC failed Nigerians by certifying as satisfactory for human consumption, products which, in the United Kingdom (UK), failed sample test for human consumption and became poisonous in the presence of Ascorbic Acid, known as Vitamin C.'

The plaintiffs urged the court to declare the NBC was negligent and breached the duty of care owed its customers and consumers in the production of Fanta and Sprite with excessive “benzoic acid and sunset” additive.

Fijabi also urged the court to direct NAFDAC to conduct routine laboratory tests of all soft drinks and allied products of the company, to guarantee their safety. Counsel to the plaintiffs, Mr. Abiodun Onidare, in an amended statement of claim, alleged that sometime in March 2007, Fijabi Adebo Holdings purchased large quantities of Coca-Cola, Fanta Orange, Sprite, Fanta Lemon, Fanta Pineapple and Soda Water from NBC for export to the UK for retail purpose.

“In consideration of the fact that this case was filed in 2008 and has been in court for nine years, N2 million is awarded against NAFDAC.

Interest shall be paid on the cost awarded at the rate of 10 per cent per annum until liquidation of the said sum,” Justice Oyebanji said.
