Lives Lost as Multiple Explosions Hit University of Maiduguri

Two people lost their lives while many others were injured after suicide bombers detonated explosives at different locations including the security office in the University of Maiduguri last night.
According to Premium Times, the incident was confirmed by the Borno State Public Relations Officer, Victor Isukwu, at about 12 midnight on a WhatsApp platform managed by his office, but he did not give full details of casualties recorded.
He said: “Let’s not speculate yet”, he cautioned reporters. “At Unimaid only one male suicide bomber died; three university security personnel injured among which one later died.”
A professor in the Mass Communications department of the university who also doubles as the spokesperson of the institution, Danjuma Gambo, confirmed in a BBC Hausa broadcast early this morning that three suicide attacks took place in the university last night.
Residents of Maiduguri who celebrated a hitch-free Sallah could not go to sleep on Sunday night as sounds of bombings and shootings rented most part of the night and early hours of the dawn. The city vibrated with the first blast, which occurred at about 10:15 p.m.
Immediately after it was confirmed that it was from the university campus, another explosion occurred at exactly 11 p.m. It has not been confirmed if the second blast which seemed bigger recorded any casualty, but it was followed by hours of shootings and sounds of military vehicular movements.
The university has become one of the major targets of the Boko Haram since it came under its first direct attack on January 16. About four suicide attacks have been executed within and around the university since then.
One of the attacks led to the death of a renowned professor of veterinary medicine, who died alongside few others during the first attack.

Dambazau said this when he visited Kano central prison to mark this year’s Eid-el Fitr celebration.
The minister said the decision to visit the prison was to show to the inmates that the government was aware of their existence.
“The high number of awaiting trial inmates is worrisome, because the prisons are meant for convicts, but you find out at the end of the day that more than 70 percent of the people there are awaiting trial inmates,” he said.
Dambazau added that, “some of the inmates were supposed to stay for few years but ended up staying for up to 15 years.”
He, however, lauded the state governor for giving a vast piece of land for the building of 3,000 capacity modern prison in the state.
Speaking earlier, Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of the state, who accompanied the minister, said he had secured the release of 50 inmates and also approved the release additional 500 inmates in prisons across the state. He said that the gesture was part of the activities to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr.
Ganduje said the beneficiaries were selected based on gravity of their offence and sign of reformation while in prison. He advised them to desist from acts that would warrant them returning to prison.

He enjoined all Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to use the occasion of the celebration for sober reflection and pray for peace, unity and progress of the nation in its march to nationhood.

I was conferred as a deacon in my church a few years back but it would not stop me from talking. If they go around with armed personnel because of the wealth they seem to have, how did they come about the wealth?
Is it not from our tithe and offering? They cannot try it in America. A pastor in South Africa is rotting in jail because he molested underage girls. I am sure that if it was in Nigeria, we would not hear anything. Nothing would happen because we have built our society around people and not laws. It is wrong.
Nathan in the bible went to King David to convey God’s message without any fear or compromise but our pastors can’t do so. We are in this mess in Nigeria because our pastors are not talking. If we are going to count the true men of God in Nigeria, they would not be up to two among the thousands that we have. Only a few of them can look in the eye of corrupt men in government and speak the truth because they would not want to lose their worldly possession.
They know all the rogues we have in government, the people that are putting us in total blackness. These people attend their churches but they are not talking to them which means that these pastors are thieves and rogues as well.
Until we start speaking the truth from the church, we are not going to make any head way in Nigeria,” he said.

While speaking in an interview with DailyPost, ACP Abba Kyari, Nigeria's celebrity crime buster, who is the masterminder of billionaire kidnapper, Chikwudubem Onwuamadike a.k.a Evan's arrest, opened up on the secret of his power, what Evans did to him for five years, as well as why he is no longer afraid of death.
Here are excerpts from the chat;
How long have you been looking for Evans?
I have been on his trail since the past five years. He really gave us a tough time. Why tough times, was he more sophisticated that your team? Not really, I think he is the smartest criminal I have ever seen in my entire life. Among all the high-profile robbers and kidnappers we have nabbed, Evans stands to be the smartest. He really gave me headache because we couldn’t track him.
How true is the report that his sister showed you his hideout?
That is not true. He kidnapped someone and refused to release the person after collecting ransom of N300m. When the victim’s family called, he asked them to bring another N300m. Unfortunately for him, the victim escaped and alerted the police. However, on getting there, they had fled but left some details behind. That was how we traced him.
What was his reaction when he saw you?
That guy is very smart. On sighting us he was shocked to his marrow, he wanted to run but when he sighted my pistol he surrendered. He never thought he could ever be arrested. He was speechless for hours because he made sure he equipped himself with all the gadgets that would not enable us track him.
Would you say his arrest is your greatest feat as an intelligent Police officer?
Well, I think my biggest catch was a notorious kidnapper, called Abiodun Egunjobi, otherwise known as Godogodo. The man had killed over 200 Nigerians. Upon his arrest, he admitted killing over 50 policemen and took away their riffles. But he is not as smart as Evans.
Some people believe you use spiritual power to track criminals, how true is this?
I don’t have any spiritual power aside the almighty Allah. There is no other secret aside God, hardwork and dedication. If you have been to developed countries, then you would know Nigeria still has a long way to God. In this job, I try to be focused and dedicated. This is the secret to a successful life. I don’t use any juju in the course of my duty.
Are you not afraid of being attacked by these people?
Well, when I ventured into this job, I know what it entails, so there is nothing to be scared one, though one has to be very careful. Of course, you don’t except me to party around like other people would do. I try as much as possible to be careful.
Kate Henshaw and other Nigerians have been trashing you for celebrating and snapping pictures with Evans, what’s your reaction?
Who is Kate Henshaw and what does she know? She must be out of her mind to criticize us. Even in other developed countries, people celebrate the capture of criminals and I wonder why she is running her mouth criticizing us why she has never caught a fly in her entire life.
