In Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom state, a man has been burnt alive for allegedly stealing a motorcycle also known as, Okada on Thursday, September 8.

Instead of handing over the Okada thief to the police, an angry mob who were mostly Okada riders, too laws into their hands as they beat the man mercilessly and did not only there but gathered tyres, poured kerosene and set him ablaze immediately.

Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji has lost her chance of marrying this year because her secret lover has called off their wedding.

Unknown to many, the pretty Nollywood single mother sparked off a secret romance with Ugochukwu Udezue, a wealthy NBA basketball agent based in Denver, Colorado last year. He reportedly proposed to her around the time she was seen flaunting a huge engagement ring on her official Instagram page.


Miss Nnaji and the Mr Udezue were supposed to get married in Milan Italy about two weeks ago but the groom cancelled the wedding at the last minute and returned to Amsterdam, dumping the actress and her guests.

On why he cancelled the wedding at the last minute, Udezue reportedly told his friends that he doesn’t trust Miss Nnaji after she chose to make the wedding private.

Secondly, his father has refused to give his blessing because of Genevieve Nnaji’s suspicious demand of not wanting close family members at the wedding.

It was further disclosed that Ugo’s dad also refused to attend the event nor give his blessing. Months before the wedding, Genevieve Nnaji reportedly begged Udezue to keep the wedding ceremony a low-key one. She even went as far as not telling any member of her family nor her colleagues.

She only left Nigeria with her best friend Oluchi Orlandi and few other friends. According to sources, Mr Udezue thought Miss Nnaji has something to hide that was why she didn’t bother to invite her parents to the wedding ceremony scheduled for Milan.

This and his father’s refusal forced Mr Udezue to call off the wedding.

The source said Miss Nnaji was put to shame on her wedding day and was forced to return to Nigeria without the wedding ring she’s been dreaming of.

Horror! 27 People Tragically Perish in Terrible Bus and Train Accidents on the Same Day

As many as 27 people have lost their lives after they were involved in two separate tragic accidents in Egypt. About 22 people were killed in a collision between a bus and a truck in the south-western province of Wadi El-Gedid, and 5 more people were killed after a train derailed south of Cairo on the same day, Egyptian sources have revealed.


According to Asharq Al-awsat English‎, security and health officials said that 22 people were killed and dozens more were injured in a collision between a bus and a truck in the Wadi El-Gedid province.

Security sources said that initial inspections indicate that excessive speed caused the accident which occurred early yesterday morning. The bus was transporting workers from Giza (a province adjacent to Cairo) to Wadi El-Gedid.

The Middle East News Agency (MENA) quoted a security source as saying that ambulances rushed to the scene of the accident on the Farafrah – El-Bahariya Road and transported the injured and dead bodies to hospital.

Man Hangs Himself Over N22,000 Loss in Sports Betting in Uyo

After losing N22,000 to sports betting, a man identified only as who is in his mid 30s, has hanged himself in his room along Abak road in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.

According to a report by DailyTrust, Uchenna who was a perpetual sports gambler with Naija Bet, took the said sum he lost from his boss in the hope that he would replace it when he wins.


His roommate, Ifiok, said the deceased had been lamenting after losing the money and got himself into a terrible state of mind.

“I went out to buy something from Plaza (the city center) and on getting back I found that everywhere was locked. I knew Uchenna hasn’t gone out and I wondered what must have made him to lock up himself. "I tried to open the door for several minutes without success until I had to force it open. I then found him hanging from the ceiling fan in our room and his eyes had popped out," Ifiok said.

Speaking to a correspondent, the neighbour of the victim, Uto Udobia, decried the high rate of sports betting which has become prevalent among the youths and even elders.

She called on government and other regulatory agencies to check the sports betting activities, stressing that it is pure gambling and it is already fuelling crime among the youths and also derailing their career.

Chairman Of Lagos State Pickpockets, Oshodi Branch & 21 Others Arrested

Ibrahim Kasali, a self-acclaimed Chairman of pickpockets in Oshodi, Lagos, and 21 other suspects were arrested by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command, in the early hours of last Friday in Mosafejo, Bolade, Oshodi Oke, and Oshodi Under Bridge.

Kasali is feared by his colleagues for his ruthlessness and popularity. He has been to prison four times while one of his accomplices also arrested, Ibrahim Yusuph, 18, from Ogun State, was just out of prison for the 8th time.

The Jigawa state government is set to export goats as a way of eradicating poverty from the state by introducing a goat multiplication farming programme.

The initiative introduced by Governor Muhammed Badaru Abubakar is expected to bring 18,000 women out of poverty as 47 per cent of the population are women.


Vanguard reports that the national poverty indices place the state as the poorest and women as the most vulnerable. The new goat multiplication scheme is already yielding result. Aishatu Jibrin who was a cap-knitter and has four children benefitted from the goat farming scheme.

“I have been knitting since when I was 12 and I have continued even after marriage but the impact on my livelihood and that that of my family has not changed due to exploitation by middlemen.”

She said it took her two weeks to make a cap and earned between N500 and N700 per cap but this did not help the family financially.

“I therefore always wished to have something that could make my life and that of my family better.” “I was so happy when my name appeared among pioneer beneficiaries of the scheme and the day I collected my three goats, two she goats and one male, it was the beginning of a dream which I hope will transform my life and that of my family in the next one year”.

Aishatu applauded the state government for the initiative and hoped that other women will also benefit from it. According to her, her goats have already multiplied.

“My hope is to sell by the end of year so that I can buy many sewing machines and open a fashion business in my village.” Indo Dahiru who is also a mother a four and a beneficiary of the scheme said she now enjoys rearing her goats and watching them multiply.

“When I was given the three goats last year, I was apprehensive that they may die because I had never engaged in goat or animal husbandry before. But as I got used to it, I saw them begin to multiply. I became more attracted and began to pay more attention to them.”

“I was never a contributor to the upkeep of the family because I was not involved in any trade or business.” “However, as I became engaged in this project, I can now say, without the fear of being contradicted, that my life and that of my family has changed.” “My hope is to be able to generate enough from the business and afford to pay for hajj”.

Governor Abubakar explained that his goal was to diversify the economy and eradicate poverty especially among women by providing empowerment.

“Our state has one of the highest levels of poverty especially amongst women and this is something we must stop. The easiest and most effective way is through the goat multiplication programme which we borrowed from Bostwana and South Africa where millions of women were removed out of poverty.”

He said millions of Naira was used to purchase thousands of goats to provide women who needed financial independence with a good start. He recognised women as a core group that can help to tackle and solve the problem of poverty.

Alhaji Hamza Muhammed Hadejia who is the governor’s special assistant on community services said a monitoring mechanism had been put in place to supervise the scheme and ensure sustainability and repayment so that others can benefit.

“We have set up a committee that is working with the over 18,000 beneficiaries so that the output of the multiplication project will be marketed and sold at optimum profit.”

Hadejia explained that the Saudi Arabian government mass animal purchase scheme is being explored by the committee so that the beneficiaries will be able to export their goats and also sell locally.

“It is estimated that by end of the year, these 18,000 distributed goats will multiply to over 100,000 and will form a large resources for both the beneficiaries as well as revenue for the state government. “In short, millions of people, including the beneficiaries and their families, in few years to come, will be taken out of poverty”.

The scheme has however received criticism from opposition particularly the Peoples Democratic Party that the governor’s project has taken the state backward after the former government built an airport that “launched the state into the elite comity of states in the country”.

Governor Abubakar however responded: “Given the option of a plane ride to Abuja and back from the `wonder airport’ at N50,000 and three goats for N15,000 ,our rural women opted for the latter.”

No Soldier Was Killed In Clash With Militants – Army

The Nigerian Army has denied reports that two soldiers were killed during the military operation in Omuawa in Ikerre LGA of Rivers State where five militants were shot dead.

Spokesman, 2nd Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Captain Eli Lazarus, explained that no soldier was killed during Thursday’s operation, which he described as successful.


It will be recalled that the militants, who had been terrorising the people of the area, were confronted by soldiers before five hoodlums were gunned down. About 23 suspects were said to have been arrested while several arms and ammunition were recovered during the operation that lasted for about 30 minutes.

But a source in the community had said that two soldiers lost their lives during an exchange of fire with the militants.

However, Lazarus, who spoke in a telephone interview with The PUNCH on Sunday, maintained that there was no casualty on the side of the Nigerian Army. He pointed out that some an officer and two soldiers, who were involved in an accident sustained minor injuries, and added that their situation had nothing to do with last Thursday’s operation.

“No soldier was injured during last Thursday’s operation as the Nigerian Army embarked on a successful operation. Five militants, who engaged our men in a shootout were killed. “Maybe, some people may have thought that an officer and two soldiers, who were involved in a road accident, were injured during the operation.

The soldiers were disgraced and sent to prison 

Nine Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have been disgraced and sent to prison for stealing fuel and military supplies in the black market.

The soldiers were found guilty of pursuing personal interest and endangering operational efficiency of the UPDF, contrary to section 124 of the UPDF Act, TheInsider reports.


The nine were part of a group of soldiers implicated in a fuel racket that was busted by AMISOM officials in June.

The UPDF Divisional Court Martial sitting in Mogadishu, yesterday, handed sentences ranging from one year to three years after finding the soldiers, who included both senior and junior ranking officers, guilty of misconduct and violating the rules and regulations of peacekeeping.

The sentences were read to the soldiers by the Chairman of the Court Martial, Brig. Gen. Dick Olum, who warned that UPDF will not tolerate any incident of misconduct among its officers serving in peacekeeping missions.

“The prosecution has proved all the accusations of pursuing personal interest and endangering operational efficiency beyond reasonable doubt. The accused persons are hereby convicted of the charges against them and this conviction is given under my hand and seal this 15th day of August 2016. You are convicted as charged,” Gen. Olum told the soldiers.

In addition to imprisonment at Luzira prison, Uganda, three of the soldiers were dismissed with disgrace from the army. It means that they will leave the army without any benefits, unlike many of their colleagues who have served the Mission with diligence and upheld high standards of discipline as required by the Ugandan government.

Those convicted are: Maj. Sulait, who was sentenced to three years imprisonment and dismissed with disgrace from the UPDF; Maj. Kundu Weyaula, one year and demoted to the rank of Captain; Warrant Officer II Kakooza Mathew, 18 months imprisonment; Staff Sergeant Abwot Richard, 18 months in prison and demoted to Sergeant, and Cpl. Sekandi Ronald was handed a two-year prison term and also dismissed with disgrace from the army.

Others are Lance Corporals Kasule Budala and Atugiriire Dennis, both sentenced to 18 months in prison and demoted to the rank of Private; Private Tibaijuka Expedito, two years imprisonment and dismissed with disgrace and Private Mwanja Noah, 18 months in prison.

Prior to the sentencing, the Judge Advocate, Maj. Harry Lully Lulecera, informed the court that the charges were within the ambit of the UPDF Act, adding that the Court Martial had the powers to sentence the accused soldiers.

However, the Defence counsel Lt. Lilian Tugume, pleaded for a lighter sentence on the grounds that all the nine were first time offenders and had shown remorse. Gen. Olum defended the penalties, saying the soldiers had not only damaged the image of the UPDF and AMISOM but had also endangered the lives of others.

“The sentence that military courts give out to soldiers who have committed a crime is a deterrent sentence. It is a sentence that sends out a message to the rest of military personnel whether back at home or in any other mission out of the country. It is a message that goes out to soldiers and officers of the UPDF that if you commit an offence, you will face the law and face it very harshly,” Gen. Olum said.

Both Major Saifu and Weyaula were stripped of their ranks and together with the rest of the convicts, will stay in custody until they return to Uganda to begin serving jail terms. The nine are part of 18 soldiers who were earlier arraigned before the same court for selling fuel belonging to the Mission.

They were charged after five soldiers were arrested in June, in connection with the illicit sale of fuel in a scam involving civilians in Mogadishu.

However, out of the 18, two pleaded guilty and were immediately charged, six were acquitted and one turned into a state witness, leaving the nine, who had denied any wrongdoing, to face trial.

The Divisional Court Martial is constituted by the UPDF high command and is charged with the trial of cases of misconduct committed by soldiers serving in missions out of the country.
