Oratilwe Hlongwane, who is also known as DJ Arch Junior, won a R500,000 grand prize after competing against six other hopefuls at Sunday night’s finale after the 3 year-old prodigy was announced as this year’s winner of the South African TV show, SA’s Got Talent. The toddler scooped the R500,000 (US$35,000) grand prize in a nail-biting finale after having gained much attention for his unbelievable affinity with the turntables.
In an interview with the SA’s Got Talent team, his father Glenn said that his son’s talent is about having fun and that no serious plans were being made besides letting the child enjoy his childhood. “We are just going to keep on doing, what we’re doing. He’s still young and there is still a lot that will happen as he grows and mature. For now, he’s still a kid and he’s just going to continue as he does. He goes to crèche and DJ because he loves it. Tomorrow is another day.”
Reacting to the win, his father Glen Hlongwane says he is proud of the little boy. “We are very proud as a family. He surprised us since day one, since January, when ‘broke the internet’ so winning SA’s Got Talent is the cherry on top.”
Hlongwane says while the young DJ will be allowed to play at child-friendly events, they now have to focus on his education. “The main factor was just for him to go there and express his talent. Only when he is mature enough to understand this then we will try and plan things. For now it’s just education, we will just let him develop as a kid and make sure we are not taking anything away from his childhood.”
DJ Arch Junior lives with his parents Hlongwane who is a gymnastics teacher and his mother who is a student at Boston Media. They live in Alexander, Johannesburg, where Arch Junior spends most of his time at creche.
The toddler got his love for music from his father who was always mixing music on a DJ app on his Ipad and on his home DJ set.
