An ex-soldier, identified as Sunday Umaru, has been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command over the killing of his girlfriend after he saw some text messages on her phone.
Sunday Umaru, who served in the 3rd Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army, but attached to Sector 7 of Operation Save Haven, Jos (OPSH), was alleged to have stabbed his lover, Charity Thomas, in the stomach in the Riyom area of the state, which led to her death.
The soldier was dismissed by the army for the action and handed over to the police for prosecution.
Parading him on Monday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adekunle Oladunjoye, said the suspect had invited the victim from Kaduna State to stay with him.
He said, “While going through her phone, he saw some text messages from other men which made him lose his temper.”
CP Oladunjoye said the ex-soldier has been charged to court to answer for the killing of his girlfriend.
