VP who impregnated 16yrs old girl to take up responsibility for her upkeep for 3 years

The Vice Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Tunga Minna, Mohammed Mohammed who impregnated his student, 16 year old Faith Danjuma would take care of the upkeep of mother and child for three years.

This is according to the Niger state Ministry of Education. The Permanent Secretary, Yahaya Garba, said the Ministry has not promoted or transferred the accused Principal to any other school, adding that the Ministry is not shielding him as insinuated by some quarters.

Stating the stand of the Ministry towards the matter, Garba said that Mohammed has been suspended from the school while 50 per cent of his salary is being withheld pending the outcome of the deliberation of the case which is in court.

“As a Ministry, we did not want to make any public announcement of our stand but because the issue have gone viral, we have to come out and make our stand. I would like to say that the Niger state Ministry of Education is not in anyway shielding Mallam Mohammed. When the case got to us, we directed the state secondary education board to set up a seven man committee.

“Based on the recommendation of the Committee and the acceptance by Mohammed to have committed the crime, the Ministry of Education has placed Mohammed on interdiction in half salary.

“We have also mandated Mohammed to take up the upkeep of the mother and the child for three years. It is important to note that Mohammed Mohammed has not been promoted or posted anywhere. He is still serving his suspension. The Ministry will finally decide on his case after the court have concluded deliberation on his case.”

The Permanent Secretary further stated the willingness of the Ministry to pay the money needed to carry out the DNA testing as a bid to expedite the case in court.

It would be recalled that Faith Danjuma, the 16-year-old student who was impregnated by her Vice Principal and her family had cried out for assistance from the state government after Faith gave birth as they claimed that the accused had abandoned them and has not taken up his responsibility towards mother and child.

The victim and her family claimed that the Vice Principal is nowhere to be found and have neglected the mother and the child.

However, the Permanent Secretary had assured the Danjumas that Mohammed would take up his responsibility towards mother and child stressing that there is no way he can run away as long as he remains a staff of the state Ministry of Education.
