Oh dear! what could be worse for parents than losing their 2 sons on the very first day of the year?
Shock and anguish rented the air in the Oke-Ijetu area of Osogbo, Osun state capital on January 1, after two young boys of the same parents drowned in River Osun.
The brothers were playing football close to the river when their ball was kicked into the river.
An eyewitness, who put the age of the two children between 11 and 15, said the younger child when into the river to retrieve the football but did not come out.
The older child was said to have subsequently entered the river with the aim of saving his younger brother, but he also got drowned in the process.
Another boy was also said to had entered the river, but was rescued after his screams attracted some passersby. Some stretched a bamboo pole to the third boy inside the river and he was brought out.
Sadly, the corpse of the two brothers were later recovered.
May the good Lord console their parents.
