3 Burnt Alive In Community Fight In Benue State

At least three persons were burnt to death in a building in a late Friday night attack on Tse-Chia village, near Kasar in Zaki Biam, Ukum local government area of Benue State.

The gruesome murder is suspected to be a reprisal attack by victims of last Monday’s massacre in Biam maintain town in a raging community dispute in Benue State, north-central Nigeria.

According to an eyewitness who spoke with Sunday Vanguard, several houses in the community were also razed in what has been a nightly occurrence.


The eye witness said; “The attackers of Tse-Chia were led by some youths in Zaki Biam main town who identified and recognized all the masterminds of the Monday attack”, “They know all those who participated in that massacre, so every night since after that unfortunate incident, youths from Biam visit their villages and houses to pay them back in their own coin and, where they are not found at home, their houses are razed, that is what is going on at the moment.

“It was all about fight for supremacy, which was allowed to degenerate to the level of the mass killings of innocent people and destruction of property of a magnitude never witnessed in the state after the 2001 military invasion.”

He added that the community has given up any hopes of intervention by the authorities, saying, “It is tit-for-tat because no one has monopoly of violence.”
