Birmingham has been announced as the host of the 2022 Commonwealth Games after Durban was stripped of the event.
The South African city was stripped as host in March 2017 due to failure to meet the criteria set out by the Commonwealth Games Federation, CGF.
Birmingham was selected despite being the only city to submit a bid within the Commonwealth Games Federation’s (CGF) deadline of the end of September.
Birmingham will prepare for the Games as a replacement city on a shortened schedule, 27 months less than what had been planned when the first selection process ended.
