Japan Is Considering Installing Toilets In Lifts For Emergency Situations

It’s a fear each of us contemplates every time we take a dodgy lift ride. We ask, what would happen if I became trapped in here? According to Metro UK, Japan is now considering giving people an answer to that question by installing toilets and drinking fountains in their lifts. Due to the country’s frequent earthquakes, citizens often become trapped in lifts for hours, and sometimes even days.

On Saturday, Japan was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake which left thousands stuck in lifts without water or toilet facilities. Obviously, some lifts will be far too small to install such facilities, in which case collapsible cardboard structures with adsorbent paper bags would reportedly be used instead.

Officials from the infrastructure ministry and the Association of Elevator Markers will be meeting soon to discuss the proposals.

I think I'm in support of this idea.
