The NCC made this disclosure in its Monthly Internet Subscriber Data, which the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) obtained on Monday in Lagos.
The data showed that there was an increase of 1,587,514 internet users on both the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks in April.
In the data, 85,467,970 users were recorded on the networks as at March, then this figure increased to 87,055,484 internet subscribers in April.
It showed that out of the 87,055,484 internet users as at April, 86,904,705 were on GSM networks, while 150,779 users were on the CDMA networks. Also, out of the 86,904,705 internet users recorded on the GSM networks in April, MTN Nigeria had 39,520,285 customers browsing the internet on its network.
It stated that MTN had a decrease of 384,487 internet subscribers, after it recorded 39,904,772 users in March 2015. In the data, Globacom had 19,690,526 subscribers surfing the net with its network in April, up from 18,617,607 users in March.
It said that Globacom had gained a total of 1,072,919 additional internet users on its network. Airtel Nigeria, it said, had 17,272,665 internet users in April, as against 16,603,147 customers recorded in March. The data showed that internet users on the Airtel Nigeria network increased by 669,518 in April.
It indicated that Etisalat had 10,421,229 of its customers browsing the internet in April, against the 10,189,568 users in March. The data showed that those browsing the net on Etisalat’s network increased by 231,661 in April.
The NCC data also revealed that the CDMA operators (Multi-Links and Visafone), had a joint total of 150,779 internet users on their networks in April. It showed that the only surviving two CDMA networks in the country listed a loss of 2,088 internet subscribers in the month under review, from the 152,866 users they recorded in March.
Visafone recorded a decrease of 2,063 customers surfing the internet in April, reducing to 150,252 compared to the 152,315 users in March.
It showed that Multi-Links had 527 internet users in April, losing 24 customers from the March record of 551 users.
