The Police on Tuesday in Abuja paraded an alleged fake medical
doctor, Martins Ugwu Okpe, who has been working in the federal ministry of
health for the past nine years. He was using the name Judge Davidson Daniel.
Trouble started when Okpe started behaving in an unprofessional way while
claiming some of his colleagues were conducting themselves unprofessionally,
which was later discovered to be false. His colleagues thereafter petitioned
the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN ), where it was discovered that
there was a doctor registered with the MDCN with the name Judge Davidson
Daniel, but he was working in another hospital in Jos.
While responding to questions from journalists,
the suspect admitted that he stole the certificate from his frien, Judge
Davidson Daniel when t he visited him. “He visited me in my house in
Karu in 2005 and I was to help him get a job. I picked photocopies of the
credentials. I have been in the federal ministry of health since September 2006
as independent investigator. I want to state that there is a mess in the health
sector. The owner of the certificate was not aware that I am using his
certificate,” he confessed.
He, however, urged the federal government to
critically look at the activities of the federal ministry of health, as
according to him, most of the foreign funds donated to Nigeria by foreign
donors were not being judiciously utilised. The Nigeria police force also
advised Nigerians to “ensure diligence in keeping valuable documents to ensure
that frivolous elements or enemies masquerading as friends as being in the case
under review.”
