Pastor Lungisani Mafu 30, from South Africa, who was a motivational speaker for popular South African Radio station, Ukhozi FM, has apologised for raping and murdering a woman in 1999. According to Daily Sun SA, the pastor and four others were once charged and convicted with the rape and murder of the girl, Chantal Pienaar. Chantal was 20 years old when she bled to death after being raped and stabbed between railway lines near Fynnlands in Durban. Alhough he pleaded not guilty when tried, Mafu was sentenced to 15 years in prison but was released on parole in 2010.
However, on Friday last week, he opened up about the incident while filming a motivational DVD at Ethekwini Community Church in Durban. “I killed an innocent young woman in cold blood. I was dead drunk and I have little recollection of what happened that day. “When I woke up in the morning my clothes were still soaked in blood. I went into hiding but the cops eventually nabbed me.
“I used to do drugs and carried an okapi knife. All this happened because my parents died when I was very young,” he said.
Mafu said he has always wanted to apologise to the victim’s family, but couldn’t trace them. “I am publicly apologising to the family and all those people that I’ve wronged. “Wherever they are, they must know I’m very sorry for my actions,” he said.
Mafu was previously in the spotlight when he was accused of impregnating a young woman from his church. There was also controversy when he claimed to Daily Sun that his wife was abusing him.
