This is really inspiring! A black American billionaire, whose name is Mr Robert Smith, is currently sponsoring the education of 24 rescued Chibok girls at the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola.
Interestingly, the billionaire has also offered to sponsor the education of the 21 recently rescued Chibok girls, as confirmed in a statement by Mallam Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant on media and publicity to President Buhari.
Speaking to State House correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, Garba Shehu said: “Smith has offered to pay for the education of the 21 Chibok girls released through negotiations and is offering to take responsibility for all the others who will, hopefully, be eventually set free.
“The Murtala Mohammed Foundation in the country is equally interested.”
For now, Garba said the girls were being cared for by the Nigerian government.
“They are being treated as adoptees of the Federal Government, but there is a lot of local and international interest in the future plans of the girls,’’ he explained.
Robert Frederick Smith was born on December 1, 1962, he is an American investor. He is also the founder, chairman and CEO of Vista Equity Partners, an investment firm which is currently worth over $26 billion in assets as of September 2016.
Mr Smith is ranked by Forbes as the 268th richest person in America, and the second wealthiest African American on the list, the only person ahead of him, is Oprah Winfrey.
As at September 2016, he has an estimated net worth of $3 billion USD.
He is the founding director and president of the Fund II Foundation. He is the chairman of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, and serves on the board of overseers of Columbia Business School, as a Member of the Cornell Engineering College Council.
Garba Shehu revealed this while speaking to State House correspondents at an interactive meeting to mark the end of 2016, and the achievements of President Buhari for 2016.
