Abandoned Twins Finally Leave Hospital... named Testimony & Destiny

The twin babies abandoned by their mother at Felken Maternity Centre in Shomolu area of Lagos have been christened, Testimony and Destiny by their father.

This was disclosed by the stepmother of the twins, Mrs. Oluwabunmi Adeyemi. She said the baby girls were so named because of the circumstances surrounding their birth.

“Their names are Testimony and Destiny because it took my husband over 20 years to have a child.
They were given the names after the eighth day,” she told Punch.

Their mom, Sarah Ademola, had run away from the hospital because she and her husband, Adeyemi Ademola, could not afford to pay the sum of N300,000 at once to offset the hospital bills, after she was delivered of the twins through a caesarean section last December.

The husband paid N150,000 and promised to balance the rest but the hospital refused.

The 49-year-old stepmother said, “What the mother (of the babies) did was wrong. I am not happy with the situation. She shouldn’t have run away. As a woman, I wouldn’t do that. I can’t say why she did it and I would not judge her. I only got to know her a few months ago when my husband told me about her pregnancy.

“I will take care of the babies like my own because I still love my husband. I don’t make enough money from cooking and selling food. But I will do my best to take care of these kids as if they are mine. I don’t have a child of my own yet. I have been the one nursing them at the (maternity) centre since their mother ran away.”

Adeyemi had said that he took Sarah as his second wife following pressure from family members because of his first’s wife’s inability to conceive.

Meanwhile, the hospital management said the hospital bill had been settled by an unnamed non-governmental organisation and the twins discharged on Saturday.

Speaking with Punch, Adeyemi said, “The kids left the hospital today. Concerning the mother of the kids, I have nothing to say on the issue because I don’t know the position that she is in now. There is a time for rain and a time for sun. There is a plan for everyone God created. I believe in God’s plan.”
