US-Bound Plane Forced To Turn Around Over The Atlantic And Divert To Ireland After Woman Goes Into Labour In The Cabin

A plane bound for the U.S. was forced to turn around over the Atlantic and return to Dublin Airport after a woman went into labour on board. American Airlines flight AA787 had set out from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport in France this morning en-route to Charlotte Douglas International in North Carolina. However the pilots were notified that a passenger started to have contractions in the cabin, and they turned the Airbus A330-200 around and landed at Dublin Airport at around 1.45pm local time.

The Journal reports that there was a doctor on board who administered medical attention until the plane landed. She was then taken to the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin, by ambulance, but it is unknown if she had given birth at the time of writing.

The Irish Mirror reports the woman’s contractions were ‘two minutes apart,’ which means the baby was close to being born.

Airlive.net described how the woman was in ‘premature labour’ on board.

A spokesperson for American Airlines confirmed it was a ‘medical diversion’ and that the passenger was experiencing ‘labour pains.’
