19 Years After Her Death, Princess Diana’s Velvet Dress Just Sold At Auction For N22m

It has been almost two decades since she died in a French underpass but Princess Diana is still proving popular with people.


Dubbed the People’s Princess when she was alive, the Princess of Wales was one of the major style icons of the 20th century. So when one of her iconic dresses went on auction in London it was sure to receive several large bids.

A purple velvet Bruce Oldfield gown belonging to the late Princess Diana eventually sold for £56,250 (N22m). The purple embossed dress, which has a wide neckline exposing the shoulders and a slit, was first worn by the Princess of Wales during an official visit to Portugal with Prince Charles in 1987. But that was not the only Princess Diana dress for sale.

A turquoise Catherine Walker dress went to the winning bidder for £5,250 (N2m) while a tartan dress chosen by Diana for an outing to the Braemar Highland Games in 1982 fetched £8,875 (N3.5m)
