Maiduguri Airport To Re-Open Soon After Its 2013 Closure Due To Boko Haram Insurgency

The Nigerian Air Force has said the Maiduguri International Airport which was closed in December 2013 due to Boko Haram insurgency, would soon be re-opened. The chief of Air Staff, Olusola Amosu, an air marshal, announced this to journalists in Maiduguri today.
According to him, it’s not even their own decision to re-open it but Nigeria Airport Management Authority, NAMA, wrote to them recently asking if they could operate between the hours of 6am to 6pm daily. He however says they have written them back assuring them that the airport would open soon.
“Actually the issue of the closure of the airport was not really from NAF, but NAMA wrote a letter to us recently wanting an assurance that they can operate the airport between 6a.m. and 6 p.m. We have given the assurances and very soon, the airport will be re-opened,” he said.

“But we may decide to advise for its closure anytime we find it expedient to do so because of ongoing military operation on that axis,” he also explained.
