A 27-year-old trader, Chidi Ibiam was yesterday sentenced to 21
years imprisonment by Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya of an Ikeja High Court in
Lagos, for defiling a six-year-old girl. The prosecution led by Mr Adebayo
Haroun, had during the trial, told the court that Ibiam who is is a neighbour
and a church member of the victim's family had unlawful carnal knowledge of the
victim on 12 occasions in a shop and in a neighbour 's house.
The victim
who referred to Ibiam's genital as "tomtom" all through her
testimony said the convict used to give her garri and money before asking
her to sit on his laps after which he will start touching her. The convict
denied the charge, but Dr Adefunke Adeoye of Orile-Agege General Hospital, a
prosecution witness told the court that examination carried out on the victim
revealed sexual assault and broken hymen.
