A
Texas woman who suffered terrible headaches checked herself into a hospital,
where doctors discovered that worms were growing in her brain. 31-year-old
Yadira Rostro of Garland, said that she suffered from headaches for a long
time. After conducting tests, doctors found tapeworms and eggs growing in her
brain. Dr. Richard Meyrat, a Neurosurgeon at the Methodist Dallas Medical
Center, said that Rostro likely picked up the parasite by ingesting food
contaminated with fecal matter.
Usually,
the parasite passes through the body, but in the case of Rostro, it got into
her bloodstream and then in her brain. Doctors at the Methodist Dallas Medical Center
were able to extract the larvae, and they believe that she will make a full
recovery soonest.
