Identical Twins Denied Driving Licence Because They’re The Same Person

Two teenage twin sisters have had their application for a learner's driving permit rejected - because the licencing authorities think they're the same person. The computer system in Georgia's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) runs on facial recognition. As Alicia and Alicen Kennedy appear to have the same face, the computer is finding it tough to tell them apart. Alicia said that when they went to the licence offices, they weren't able to take the test because the DMV employee said something was wrong with the computer.

Alicen told WJBF: "I was listening to her conversation with the person on the phone and it said that one of us popped up as a fraud."

Alicia added: "The other lady came back and said that when we were taking our pictures it was picking up as saying that we were one person instead of two different people."

The twin's mum, Wanda said: "After try, after try, after try, the system just would not accept them, and it kept saying that it was the same person, they finally said there was a problem and they had to call headquarters."

Alicia says that it's unusual because they're not exactly the same, and the pair are keen to get behind the wheel.

A spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) said she wasn't aware of this happening before and they will work with the girls to sort it out, although she stated that the application form asks if applicants are twins, but the Kennedy sisters say they didn't see that question.
