Terminally-Ill Man Commits Suicide After Announcing His Chosen ‘Death And Burial Date’ On Linkedin

A man ravaged by a deteriorating killer condition is believed to have ended his life at a Swiss suicide clinic after announcing his chosen ‘death date’ as October 19, and ‘burial date’ as November 13, on social media. Just a week ago, company director, Simon Binner updated his profile on social networking site LinkedIn to read: “I died on Mon 19 Oct 2015“.

Confirming the sad decision, his daughter Hannah Drury, posted an emotional message on her Facebook page and a picture of her parents which simply read My beautiful inspirations”. Friends also took to social media to say goodbye to Simon, describing him as “brave” and a “courageous man”. One wrote: “He has taken a brave and public stand on the right to end his life with dignity.

According to Mirror UK, Simon was pictured smiling while holding hands with his wife on Sunday as they spent their last evening together. The dad, who has been married to wife Debbie for 14 years, explained his reasons for travelling to the suicide clinic last week. Mr Binner was diagnosed with aggressive motor neurone disease (MND) in January and decided to end his life rather than suffer.

Writing on his LinkedIn page he said: “I was diagnosed with aggressive Motor Neurone Disease (MND) on 7 Jan 2015. “As I was driven home I had already decided what I would gladly have to do when my time was upon me. “I died in Switzerland with Eternal Spirit on Mon 19 Oct 2015 and my funeral was on Fri 13 Nov 2015. “ My MND accelerated very rapidly. “The sawbones initially thought I would last until 2017/2018, but they were mistaken – no worries, it’s an inexact science. “I don’t recommend MND. “Better to have one massive fatal stroke or be killed instantly by a drunk driver. “There is nothing that I can say that’s positive about MND.”

Mr Binner was a member of the British Humanist Association, which has been working with HIM and other individuals suffering from terminal illnesses in an effort to change the law and make assisted dying legal.
