A 30-year-old woman has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for dumping her 6-day-old baby under a tree. The police said it discovered the baby girl under the tree allegedly dumped by her 30-year-old mother identified as Zainab Tukur in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state. It was gathered that Zainab, the mother wrapped the newly born baby with a wrapper before dumping her under the tree. It was further learnt that luck ran out of the 30-year-old mother, who was later arrested by police operatives in Bauchi.
The Command Public Relation Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed has confirmed the incident to newsmen yesterday, he said the mother and the baby have been taken to General Hospital, Soro in Ganjuwa LGA for treatment. He said “it was on Monday the 19 October 2015 at about 800 PM following intelligence report, police detectives attached to Soro Division discovered a six days old baby abandoned and covered with a wrapper inside a deep hole under the tree at Gungura Village in Ganjuwa LGA of Bauchi State.
Discreet investigation led to the arrest of the Suspect, one Zainab Tukur female and 30 years of Kirfi LGA who incidentally is the mother of the child".
The police spokesman said police has commenced investigation to ascertain the motive behind her act after which she will be charged to court for prosecution.
