Tribunal sacks, bars Plateau lawmaker from contesting elections for life

The National Assembly and State House of Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Jos, Plateau state yesterday sacked the member representing Langtang South constituency in the state Assembly, Vincent Bulus, of PDP and also barred him for life from contesting elections.


Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Akeredolu, while delivering her judgment on a petition filed by APC candidate Danladi Jackson challenging his eligibility to contest in an election, said Bulus was not qualified to contest any election because he had been convicted of an offence in line with Section 107(1)(d) of the 1999 constitution as amended.


“The respondent(Bulus), having been convicted of an offence involving fraud and dishonesty by a court of law, was not qualified to contest the election into the Plateau State House of Assembly to represent Langtang South constituency. Therefore, the election and return of the first respondent as member of Plateau State House of Assembly to represent Langtang South is a nullify.” Justice Akeredolu said
The tribunal said a fresh election should be conducted in the constituency.
