(OPINION) Thank God David Mark’s 16 years of waste is coming to an end

By Eloyi Ogbe

Our attention has once again been drawn to a blatant act of self-promotion and attempted attribution of everything good that comes to Zone C to David Mark in an article written by Yemi Itodo, a senior member of David Mark’s campaign organisation.

That article contains  a list of qualified sons and daughters of Zone who have done very well for themselves in their various endeavours but which Senator David is claiming to have made in his  16 years of waste in the Senate.
For a start,  that list betrays Senator David failures. It is a list made up of elites. His predilection has ever been to abandon  common man. You have to know somebody who knows someone who knows somebody to be considered in the kingdom of David Mark. He did so resoundingly here.
My name or Dan Onjeh’s name is not on that list. It gives the lie to the oft-repeated  propaganda that David Mark sponsored my principal through school.

To even say that everybody on that list became who they are because of the effort of Senator David is pernicious.  It is borne out of hubris and God complex.  Was David Mark in the Senate to play God? For example, Senator David Mark never contributed anything to Professor Yakubu Ochefu inclusion in the National Conference. He was included by virtue of his office as the President of the Historical Society of Nigeria. Yet hubris wouldn’t let a Senator of 16 years who is supposed to be bound by ethics to be honest.

At any event, for whatever it is worth, where are the youths in all of this? The persons whose names appeared on that list averaged 50 years and older who has occupied one higher office or another at various times? Since when did Zone C become a gerontocracy?
Let’s take Gen. Onoja for instance, even if Mark claims to be his benefactor, would the Chairmanship of the board of the National Institute for Sport, not be a demotion? Gen. Onoja was twice Governor and a PGSO to Former Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha.

Gen. Ejiga became a General and a Governor when Mark was still a junior officer. What kind of facilitation could he be talking about in respect of a General that is far his superior in the Armed Forces?

I can go on and on. But one thing that is striking in the list are the names that were omitted:  all his relatives to whom he reserve the creme de la creme of appointments.  Their names could be more than the eighty names on that list.

Can our people ask Senator Mark what happened to Dr Andrew Ifenne who helped him managed his affairs in Nigeria when Mark was in self-exile?
Can our people ask Mark of what happened to our RAMP money and the poor state of infrastructure in Benue South? Can we have answers to the Och’Idoma square eye sour?
Can we have answers to the Och’Idoma square eye sour?

Senator Mark should concentrate on telling our people what he intends to do even now that his party is in opposition. He certainly doesn’t have anything to run his campaign on. He has wasted 16years of our existence. Thank God it is coming to an end.
