Breaking News: 8 Killed, 28 More Injured As Bomb Blast Rocks Gombi, Adamawa State

Two suicide bombers on Friday afternoon blew up themselves at the grain section of the international market in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing eight persons and injuring twenty-eight others.


According to a Daily Post report, the Northeast Information Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, revealed that eight persons died while twenty-eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries.


The attack is suspected to have been masterminded by Boko Haram insurgents, as the market, which attracts people from Cameroon and other neighbouring countries, is in a local government that shares boundary with the dreaded Sambisa forest.

The report also says the Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Agency, SEMA, Haruna Furo said, “The blast occurred in the grain section of the international market in Gombi. We were told that there were two suicide bombers that carried out the attack. Our anti-bomb squad has gone there and they will be able to ascertain the manner of the attack. But they said they were two suicide bombers.

“As I am talking to you now, officials of the NEMA, SEMA and the Red Cross are already at the scene. The report we have for now is that 28 persons were affected, sustaining various injuries. There were eight deaths including the two suicide bombers.

“Some of the injured have been moved to nearby hospitals but we have put Shell facilities, the Specialist Hospital Yola, the Federal Medical Centre Yola on red alert and they are now waiting to receive those injured.”
