A law student has been hacked with machetes and then shot after he was tracked down for expressing his non-religious views on Facebook. Nazimuddin Samad was attacked by motorbike thugs at a traffic junction in Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka.
According to 'The Dhaka Tribune', the killers shouted Allahu Akbar (God is greatest) as they attacked their victim on a busy road near Dhaka’s Jagannath University, where their victim was studying law. The 28-year-old was said to have been part of the Ganajagran Manch - a secular campaigning group.
His death is the latest in a series of attacks on secular bloggers by religious extremists in Bangladesh during the past year.
Mr Samad, a student of Jagannath University, condemned religious extremism on his Facebook page. He wrote "I have no religion" on his FB profile under religious views.
Four well-known secular bloggers were killed with machetes in Bangladesh last year - one inside his own home. They all featured on a list of targeted atheist bloggers drawn up by extremist Islamic groups.
