Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar
Former Vice-President and chieftain of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar, has expressed sadness over the shocking death of 200 people who died as a result of Church building collapse in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking through his media office in a press statement yesterday, Atiku who was in Maiduguri on a private visit enroute to Yola to commiserate with Adamawa State government over the multiple bomb blasts in Madagali, condoled the families of those involved in the tragedy as he described the unfortunate incident as ‘’horrendous and fearful.’’
According to him, the incident is a great test of faith for all those involved considering the fact that it took place when the church building was packed full of worshipers who were in a jubilant mood during the installation ceremony of the church’s founder to the exalted office of a bishop.
He asked God to strengthen and comfort all the worshipers who lost loved ones in the tragedy.
The former vice president implored relevant agencies and all men and women of goodwill to do all necessary in providing medical care to the survivors and provide counsel to the families of the deceased.
The APC chieftain stated that the church building collapse in Uyo, was one too many in the catalogue of building collapses across the country, adding that, after the mourning, the relevant building authorities would have to be more serious in approving building plans, renovation requests and monitoring of standards, equipment and the building process by experts.
He said that the high incidence of collapsed buildings caused the nation a lot in terms of human life and materials, as well as the confidence as to the ability of the nation’s builders to give her people safe structures.
Atiku prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed faithful.[left-sidebar]
