JUST IN: Thousands of Lagosians 'Trapped' in Total Traffic Lockdown on 3rd Mainland Bridge (Photos)

The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) who continued the rehabilitation on the popular 3rd mainland bridge in Lagos, has not only created inconvenience, but left many commuters stranded.

It was gathered that some of the trucks belonging to the agency parked right in the middle of the road inward Lagos Island on Friday, forcing vehicles to share two of the five lanes.

As of 1:30pm, the traffic had extended beyond the Iyano-Oworo axis of the bridge to Seven Up towards the Old Toll Gate, Ojota, Anthony, and other parts of the city.

Speaking to a correspondent, a Lagos government official, who does want his identity disclosed, accused the officials handling the project of poor planning.

“Poor planning is responsible for this situation. At least the engineers should have factored in the fact that this is perhaps the busiest road in the state,” he said.

“Look at the manhour loss that this has caused the economic capital of the nation. So much about planning.”

Ibrahim Garba, who stays in Lekki and work in Ikeja, said he was not sure of returning home as a result of the situation. “I am contemplating paying my family members in Ogba an unplanned visit, and passing the night there. The traffic will subside, but then many people will suffer,” he told TheCable.

The Lagos State Emergency Response Unit (LRU) has deployed personnel to the area to assist in containing the situation
