Armed Robbers Lay Ambush, Kill DPO in Rivers State

A Rivers state Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Special Area, Clifford Igwegbe, who was a chief superintendent of Police (CSP) has been killed by robbers.



Leadership reports that Igwegbe had led an operation against suspected armed robbers, who snatched a vehicle belonging to the member representing Emohua Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Sam Oge, at the Rumuigbo area of Port Harcourt.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Ahmad Muhammad said CSP Igwebe made a supreme sacrifice by putting his life on the line for others. Muhammad stated that the late DPO and other officers responded to a distress call but were ambushed by the hoodlums in a gun battle.

It was gathered that four other policemen, who were wounded during the shoot-out with the hoodlums, are recovering at an undisclosed hospital in the state capital.
