Woman Obsessed With Looks Granted Right To Die Because She’s Afraid Of Getting Old

A Socialite obsessed with her looks has been given the right to die because she is afraid of getting old. The mum of three is being kept alive by dialysis after a pills overdose left her with liver and kidney damage. The woman, 50, known only as C, downed champagne and painkillers last year after she was diagnosed with cancer, broke up with a partner and got into debt. Doctors say she should recover well, but the woman wants to refuse treatment so she can die within five to ten days. 

Medics at King’s College Hospital, London, asked the Court of Protection for powers to treat the mum against her will. But Mr Justice MacDonald has now ruled in her favour. He said the woman’s choice was in keeping with how she lived her life, making “impulsive and self-centred” decisions without regret, The Times reported.

He added: “C has had four marriages and a number of affairs and spent the money of her lovers recklessly before moving on when things got difficult. C seeks to live life on her own terms - one revolving largely around her looks, men and living the high life.”

The court heard her daughters called her a “completely indifferent” mum who was apparently furious when one got pregnant, as it would make her a gran.

The judge admitted his ruling would “possibly horrify many”.
